I've recently started playing a sorcerer, and I'm still fairly new to it. Just wondering what affects sorcerer DS, and if my character has poor DS for his train/stats/skillset.

Why in ever-loving-heck are you using a TWIG when you've got shield use training?!

Either ditch the shield use training to pick up more magic skills (lores or more spells) or ditch the twig and get better DS from the shield you're trained to use. Oh, and ditch the OHE training, that'll get you some TP's back, too.

Yes, I am ditching shield use and the OHE training. But that still doesn't help me with my question...

A great amount of your DS/TD comes from the spell Cloak of Shadows. It grows with you as you continue to train in the circle. You should never drop below 1x Spell training in your primary circle. It will adversely effect several different performance related abilities of your character.

NOTE: Skip to bottom for an explanation of Runestaff/Sorcerer DS

As for skills, lets go line by line.

Armor Use..........................| 20 4 - What armor are you shooting for? 8 ranks takes care of all penalties relating to wearing Double Leather

Shield Use.........................| 70 15 - You were told to either go Runestaff or Sword/Board.

Combat Maneuvers...................| 10 2 - I would highly suggest dropping this skill. It will NOT help your DS like it used to. Dodge will, but is terribly expensive.

Edged Weapons......................| 78 17 - Drop it in favor of more spells.

Physical Fitness...................| 90 20 - What race are you? 24 ranks maxes our Dark Elf health, I believe.

Arcane Symbols.....................| 58 12 - Spell tanking is a great way to raise DS, and Scroll infusion will help you if you train heavily in Arc Symbols. I would suggest 1.5x-2x

Magic Item Use.....................| 96 22 - Less useful than Arc Symbols, but still nice. I would do .5x -1x

Spell Aiming.......................| 93 21 - Bring this up to atleast 1x for Maelstrom, Implosion, Limb Disruption, etc

Harness Power......................| 122 31 - Looks good to me
Elemental Mana Control.............| 78 17 - I BELIEVE every 10 ranks of your primary mana control gives you +1 per pulse, with every 20 for your secondary control. Make sure you stop at whole numbers.

Spirit Mana Control................| 82 18 - See above. Whatever Mana Control you have more of is considered your primary lore.

Sorcerous Lore - Demonology........| 25 5 - I would suggest dropping Necro and getting your demonology up towards 50 ranks for the Cloak of shadows retribution benefits. It wont help your DS, but it will help you survive.

Sorcerous Lore - Necromancy........| 15 3 - See above.

Survival...........................| 20 4 - Drain of points at this point IMO

Perception.........................| 20 4 - I would either 1x it, not get it at all and use 402 for perception checks, or get 40 ranks.

Climbing...........................| 90 20 - This is fine

Swimming...........................| 90 20 - This is fine

First Aid..........................| 90 20 - Not worth it at this point

Trading............................| 5 1 - Not worth it at this point

Pickpocketing......................| 5 1 - Not worth it period

My skill adviced is based purely around mechanics, and not RP. If any of those skills are essential to your RP, keep them. However, know that the primary factor for DS when using a Runestaff is magical ranks. You want to get as many as possible per level to ensure you have a healthy DS. Examples of skills which add to Runestaff DS are Spell ranks, lore ranks, Harness Power, Arc Sym/MIU, Mana Controls, and Spell Aiming.

Try to shoot for 12-13 ranks per level, If that is too stifling atleast get 11 if you want a healthy DS. Suppliment your DS with infused scrolls of Thurfel's Ward (503) which gives +20 DS over a long period of time.
