Heh. I bought the PSP/PS3 download version of Suikoden I for $5 and I've really enjoyed it so far. I just got to the part where you get your castle.

Are any of the sequels any good? I heard II was good from a few sources.

IV is a good game, worth the buy and time, 100hrs of play. Story wise its about 30-40 hrs worth of content. Extras eat more time. Defenantly fun, oh, and in IV you get a boat not a castle. Think of the air-craft carrier of the 1500's esc. It still sucks though, like everything else. That is all.

I'm interested in what the original post said.

I've played Suikoden II, III, IV, V and Tactics.

If you like Gemstone, you'll love Suikoden II and III -- moreso III. Suikoden III is set in a 'midevial' like time.

Suikoden Tactics is awesome if you love strategy RPG games like Final Fantasy Tactics, but the storyline blows (it's about feckin' fish monster people). Game play is brilliant, however.

Suikoden II has the best story and is my favourite. I had the disk but sold it on E-Bay last Christmas for $140. It's pretty rare and worth a lot.

Suikoden IV got the worst reviews, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I think it had some good music, as well.

Suikoden V is the only game I never got to finish. The gameplay for that one was pretty damn good. It was fun while I played it. I need to finish it.

I don't think he edited the original post. I took it to mean that IV sucked. Although his next post has now confused me.

I missed out on a lot of good games because the last console I owned before my PS3 was a Super Nintendo. Luckily my PS3 was one of the MGS4 ones with software BC just in case I can find some of those games somewhere in disc form (some of those were PS2 games right?).

Although it doesn't sound like I'll ever find II anywhere anymore. Just like the time that I could have bought a copy of Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen for SNES in its original box that a Blockbuster near me was selling for $10 bucks right after the Gamecube came out...on the subject of ridiculously rare games.

I love FF:Tactics, and Ogre Battle:Tactics for that matter, so I'll have to go searching for Suikoden:Tactics too now.

I hope the release of Suikoden I on PSN is a harbinger of releasing more of them. I have to say that the whole PS3/PSP copy thing for these awesome old $5 games gets me every time. Being able to play on my PSP while I'm travelling, then transfer the save to the PS3 and continue playing there, and vice versa is the greatest thing ever for long-term RPG and strategy games.

EDIT: Oh, I just now realized why he might have said never mind. This is the wrong forum, it should be in Other Games.

I've never played Suikoden I -- nor did I know they released it for PSP. I really need a PSP.

Suikoden II was on the playstation. Suikoden III, IV, V and tactics are all on the PS2. I bought all of them on e-bay within the past four years for fairly cheap.

We can only hope they release Suikoden II on another system.

I REALLY want to play Ogre battle because I'm a viscious admirer of tactical RPG games -- I've tried to bid on it on e-bay before, but it always gets way above $60.

If you have a PS3, you can download it and play it on just the PS3 for $5. Then when you get a PSP, you can make a copy for free and put the entire game on there too (even has a digitized copy of the manual).

They released Wild Arms I on the PSN as well, and I bought that too. It isn't as good as Suikoden, but for $5 who cares? It is still better than most $60 PS3 games.

The Ogre Battle series is the veritable cat's pyjamas of strategic RPGs. IMHO. What is hilarious is that is is probably 50% better than any of the SRPGs that came after it in almost any way except the combat system. I still have not beaten that game to this day...although I have got close before, but it is freaking epically difficult to win, especially with proper alignment to get the best one of the like 12 possible endings (basically the only way to keep your alignment/rep up is to win battles against opponents at higher levels than you FOR THE ENTIRE GAME...so usually I get near the end and I'm like level 20 and all the enemies are level 35 or some shit like that).

If some current enterprising company is willing to take a risk on a game with strategic depth instead of fast paced Ritalin fueled action (Sega has done it to a degree with Valkyria Chronicles on PS3), and just copy old Ogre Battle function for function, with updated high end graphics, they'd have an amazing game.
