Staff vs. Sword and Shield

I'm currently using a sword and shield, and I don't swing the sword. It's habit, pure and simple. I'm thinking about respecing and going with a staff, but I don't really know the differences and what I should train in to use a staff.

Can someone give me some suggestions? I'm not a number cruncher, so some of the previous threads don't make a lot of sense to me.

I would first suggest Shield/Brawl if you like having the added DS of the shield. Brawling costs less than edged, and allows for you to have an open hand to power 702. As for number crunching for sissy sticks I will allow those that use them to help you out there.

to get the benefit of using a runestaff you just have to train in magical stuff 8x per level.

which as a sorcerer you might already have. so if you fixskills just put the extra points to whatever you want. more spells are always nice.

And with brawling you don't have to put your weapon away to pick up loot.
