Boy George's troubles with the law took a serious turn in a London courtroom Friday when a judge sentenced the '80s pop idol to 15 months in jail for falsely imprisoning a male escort at his home in 2007.

Judge David Radford told the former Culture Club singer (whose real name is George O'Dowd) he was guilty of "gratuitous violence" for handcuffing and beating with a chain a 29-year-old Norwegian man he had met online and invited to his London apartment for a nude photo shoot, Britain's Press Association reports.

The incident occurred after the Norwegian, Audun Carlsen, attempted to escape.

Supporters gasped, but O'Dowd, 47, is reported to have shown little emotion during his sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court, London. He was jailed immediately.

The sentencing followed a trial last year, during which O'Dowd maintained he held the escort because he suspected the man of tampering with his computer. But a jury was not convinced and found the flamboyant singer guilty.

This is not the first time O'Dowd – whose '80s hits with his band included "Karma Chameleon" and "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" – has found himself in legal hot water.

In 2006, he performed court-ordered community service in New York City after pleading guilty to falsely reporting a burglary at his Manhattan apartment, where police discovered cocaine.

Apparently, Boy George has gone down...

(not sure that joke works for our transatlantic, linguistically challenged cousins)

Did anyone else see Taboo on Broadway? I loved it and George was great. It's too bad he can't get it together.

As someone born in England, of English nationality and with an IQ far superior to that of Neff's, I have an extremely good command of the English language.

To which end, I can honestly say, your nation's butchery of my beautiful language makes me sad.

That was intentional, correct?

Do Englishmen say "advise" ad-VISS or AD-vize?

English men and women pronounce "advise" as "Ad-vize". However please remember that English is a complex language and originated from people in a nation with IQs much higher than the likes of Neff and, as such, can deal with the changing sounds of words and letters depending on which other letters accompany them.

Don't be slating the Cockneys.
Holy crap, they speak the Queen's English.

Now if you were speaking of Mancs, scousers or geordies, you would have a point.
And we won't even begin to talk about the sweaties.

Depending on the preceding letters, if there are any, the sound of that word/part of word can be either Tyez (as in "he couldnt choose which of his ties to wear, this morning") or Teez (as in "Neff looked bemused as the subtleties of the conversation escaped him").

See how adding other letters to a word changes the sound?

You're welcome.

No. I appear to be teaching it to you, I'm just not sure which part you don't understand.
