Elf Naos


ARGH. Ollie's a great guy and a cutie but we have severe disagreements on elven culture. I remember one conversation in which he said if he had his way, the cultures (especially the glittering throng of the Nalfein) would be completely re-written in a more sylvan-like, nature-loving light. He disliked the direction the elves had gone in, particularly the Nalfein.

That was years ago, though. Scared the crap out of me at the time, given that the Nalfein were my favorites. I hope he changed his mind or me and the others are remembering the conversation incorrectly, because a lot of people have formed their characters around the way the elves are currently and have expanded the cultures beyond the official docs nicely.

Heh, only serious if you like the way elves are currently (shiny and gay). Actually, even if he's still of the opinion that it should all change, I doubt he'd force it on everyone. That first post was just my gut reaction. He's more considerate than that and knows that not everyone is of the same opinion and he's not the only one playing the game or an elf.

Yes, well, they've taken the Nerf bat to a lot of minor things lately (clothing docs and weddings, for example). So I wouldn't be surprised to see more unheard changes in the works.. Details are changing, so you never know where they'll go next.

EDITED: Course.. the fuckers never tell you they've changed that shit til AFTER you get things ready or you're standing in line at a merchant and they say "No, it's not done like that anymore."

They don't give you your 20 free alters until you make use of the honeymoon cabin. There must be one GM present to verify consummation.

Hm, I don't know, maybe you've seen some things in him that I haven't. My experience is that if you get some kind of post-discussion, you're lucky. It will be vague and not really address your points to any degree of clarity.

I would be more inclined to agree with your gut decision.

That being said, I'm not sure how you really change a culture. Can they strip old docs and say "oh yeah... remember that... didn't happen anymore?" If they just add new stuff, it seems like you've still got plenty of play because the old docs are still there supporting your desired image/background. Elf culture seems to me like it would be way too much of a cluster fuck to go near. You'd have your hands full between the fanboys and the evangelists (fine line between the two) getting totally irate over the slightest infraction.

Before the Tehir docs came out a portion of players played their tehir a certain way. Then the docs came out and they complained that the new materiel nerfed their rp. Same thing happened to some extent to Dhe'nari.

Edit: Nilandia plays her Erithian a certain way. Mine is pretty similiar, to name two people off the top of my head. Both are based on existing docs, but if Xywyeranwhatever wants to come out with more elaborate docs that is different than the current understanding of the race , she can.

Whether the player complaints were valid or not, staff can change the official stance of a culture if they see fit.

Naos is the head of the Wizard/Sorcerer team...yet has professed that he hates the profession. I don't think anyone believes he is joking.
