I send a total of maybe forty texts a month, most to my husband or my sister. And I thought that was a lot:
Silverado (CA) - Greg Hardesty's teenage daughter managed to send 14,528 text messages last month. When he received his 440 page AT&T wireless phone bill, he thought it was a mistake. The dad, age 45, said "First I laughed. I thought 'That's insane. That's impossible.' And I immediate whipped out the calculator to see if it was humanly possible." He found out that it was, but just barely.
Reina, his 13-yr old daughter, would've had to send text message at the rate of 484 per day, or one every two minutes of every waking hour. When the father asked "Who are you texting anyway? Your entire school?" She replied, "A lot of my friends have unlimited texting. I just text them pretty much all the time."
According to the report, she routinely messages a core group of "four obsessive texters," all girls between 12 and 13 years old on her LG phone. Reina managed to text one of her friends who was sitting right next to her at a karaoke party.
Hardesty's AT&T phone plan included unlimited texting for $30/month. If he would've had to pay standard AT&T rates the bill would've been a whopping $2,905.60 (at $0.20 per message).
According to Nielson studies, the average 13- to 17-yr old teen texts 1,742 messages per month. Hardesty admits that he texts around 900 messages per month (30 per day), which is about 700 more than his age group.
As a result of this last month's activity, and in an attempt to curtail her texting activity, Hardesty and his ex-wife have now told Reina she can no longer send text messages after dinner.

So how much do you guys text? I have such a hard time finding the letters on my stupid phone that I usually get frustrated and just call.
Sometimes I yearn for the days of rotary dial and cords.

I've gotten used to the iphone text messaging instead of actual keys. I would guess probably 300-400 a month.
Crowded place and can't hear/talk on my phone. Just enough reception in my office to send a text out but voice is spotty at best.
However, mostly when I don't want to have a conversation and force a succinct response.

Wait, wait, wait.
She'd have to be texting in class; her instructors allow her to text constantly in class?

Damn, I'm pitiful.....20-40 texts a month probably. Do you folks use them mainly for friends or business? If it's much to do with business, my job just has zero requirement to communicate outside the store.

100-150 per month. And I have a qwerty keyboard on mine (thank God). Before that, if I sent 5 per month it was alot.

That's just from your phone, though, right?
I just checked my work email and see 3905 emails in the last month, not including those with huge attachments (which get archived same-day) or personal ones (I delete those regularly). Makes me ill.

Correct.
Work e-mail is stupid. I hate it. A lot.
I spend an hour a day just organizing my in-box, and I've got about a dozen outlook rules in place for auto-organization.

I haven't done any this month so far. I think my peak is about 20 a month. I don't see the point to do it that often seeing as how I'm always near a computer and can just IM or email there.

This is why people are still going to play GemStone.
I checked my Microsoft Outlook folders at work and my sent folder shows that I sent 10,007 business related e-mails last year. I e-mail so often at work I'd much rather text when I'm off the job. I go through around 400-700 texts per month depending on a number of factors. Having an unlimited text message package helps considerably.

I use to do about 400 or so a month. I haven't used more than 50 (per month) though in the past 3 years. I know the day I cancel my unlimiting texting, I'll go overboard.

The girl in the original story is a n00b.
CLERMONT, Fla. - A Clermont man is lucky Sprint offers an unlimited text messaging plan.
Brad Cox's 14-year-old daughter, Emilee, sent or received more than 35,000 messages a month twice in the past year. Cox called the Orlando Sentinel to report his daughter's excessive texting after reading an article on the Web about a California girl who topped 14,000 in a month.

1000-2000 or so. I had a 1500 a month text plan and had to bump it up to unlimited, which was only $5 more anyway.
I text mostly when I'm bored at work. I don't use full keyboards intentionally, because with a normal phone keypad I can text without having to look at it, which prevents me from causing 47328094237 car pileups from texting while driving.
I have AIM on my phone too, and every message sent on there counts as a text too I think.
I thought this thread was going to be about some sort of official texting competition. I'd probably enter if they had one, I'm pretty fast with it. People (even random people standing next to me in line at the store) are always like JESUS CHRIST HOW DO YOU DO THAT SO FAST WITH ONE HAND AND NOT LOOKING AT IT!!!!!1
I try to think of a good fap joke to respond with, but never have anything ready.

I haven't looked at my current providers bill because it's unlimited. I know when I was with my last carrier my sent/received ran close to 4000. Mostly working 16+ hours a day & not being able to receive phone calls at work.
I think I send around 250 a month? Much more if we're counting email. I have a hard time with talking on the phone. I start blanking out. Staring into space. Plus, I just don't have that much to say.
My friends know this. They also know that I don't listen to voicemail unless I have deep cause to think it's pertaining to an emergency. Good thing my voicemail starts deleting messages after they've been in there a couple of months. Also, calling me before noon for anything less than life or death is a no-no. They are, however, allowed to leave a text before then. So, yeah, people know to text me.

Before I got married, I texted my then girlfriend a lot during work. Now, I hardly ever text. My wife still texts her friends though.

not as much as I should. I tend to drop my phone in a purse and leave it there for days at a time, and I only like to call one person regularly. But I'd hate to count my IMs

I barely use the phone, let alone text. I'm a dropper byer. So are most of my friends. I IM with friends from Vancouver. Those can get out of control but otherwise, I am a texting virgin. Wait, I think I sent my hubby one once....but that was private....
