Seems strange until you think of some of the things people get off on. Some men get off by getting kicked in the balls by steel toed boots and some women get off by having a car battery hooked up to their clits. I think a lot of it is state of mind there was a study done years ago and sorry I can't find a link that showed that women that were told by there mother that childbirth was painful found it painful and ones that were told by there mothers that birth was easy found it easy by around 80+ percent.
