It's working pretty well so far, I just stand defensive until something swings and then I quake and pwn. I'm currently running off strength and CoL signs that give AS bonuses. Also, I'm using a +18 tower shield as my shield.

You swing an onyx-eyed grey rolaren longsword at a Neartofar orc!
AS: +125 vs DS: +32 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +98 = +228
... and hit for 46 points of damage!
Right kneecap smashed into pulp.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

AS: +130 vs DS: +32 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +91 = +226
... and hit for 43 points of damage!
Strike connects with shoulder blade!
The Neartofar orc is stunned!
Roundtime: 5 sec.

Bones in left arm crack.

(Offensive self spelled + blurs)
A Neartofar orc swings a rusted morning star at you!
AS: +151 vs DS: +152 with AvD: +33 + d100 roll: +31 = +63
A clean miss.

A clean miss.

I'm trying to figure out if Spirit Barrier (102) is worth the AS negs. Seems like it is, but I'm definitely not able to hit anything that isn't offensive and prone. I guess it's only a real problem if I get cman/spell'd into prone+offensive.

I intend to eventually use 718 in combination with swinging to kill things, and 425 will definitely make things easier. Until then (and probably after then), I've got an unlimited supply of Strength to keep me going.

I had to sacrifice spell aiming and put perception and elemental mana control to .5x, but I haven't found any problems with this other than reduced sending of course.

I'm not sure how viable this build will be at higher levels, but for now it's pretty sweet. Discuss.

You can probably make it work, but won't be as potent of a killer as you could be.

Well my CS hasn't dropped at all, and I can always just go defensive and go back to 702ing things to death when things get nasty looking.

Also, does anyone know if my block + parry chances would be higher than just the parry chances with a runestaff?

its about trainning points if ya going to stick it out, whereas ya gonna train in what goes into runestaff defense anyways ... kinda like the rogue who decide to be a sniper. So add up the cost, some of us just shelved our 10x stuff and grab a 4x runestaff.

Some did point out that anything ya train in magical area gets into runestaff defense therefore its unlimited parry ... I'll buy that

If you are going to use a shield, the only mechanical reason I see for using OHE weapon is skinning. Were it me, I'd go brawling and then if you do get disarmed, at least you still have some defense, and open hand casters get a bonus don't they?

Yeah I've been playing with a tower shield and brawling at the moment. With wizard spells I can wreck like-level/-2 level stuff in offensive. Channeling in offensive with the open hand does good damage too with 702. Might stick with this, but my DS can get pretty crappy without wizard spells. Seemingly less than what it would be if I had a runestaff. I guess it's fair tradeoff though.
