Anyone ever go through these guys? They've got a PC that looks pretty good.

Newegg's been around since before the internet (in magazine form). Prices are a little higher than if you go through a wholesaler, but the service is totally worth a few extra bucks.

The web thing was founded in 2001 apparently, but I do remember magazines of the same name from much earlier. 1996 or so. The parent company's been around since 1991, so that probably explains it.

We don't order computer equipment from anywhere else. Newegg rules.

That looks like a pretty good deal to me. 8GB ddr2, quad core, vista 64 bit, ge force 9800gt, 1280gb hard drive, for $1000? Best deal I've found so far.

I built my computer through parts ordered from newegg.
I have no complaints.

The sad thing is that you can build a similar system using Newegg for about 700 bucks (core components). Throw in whatever for the case, cooling, mouse and keyboard.

Last time I built a machine I used newegg. Current rig I got from cyberpowerpc.com wasn't in the mood to put one together.

The hardest part was imaging the machine.
I was a liberal arts kid in college with a chem/bio minors.
I've never taken a class in anything computer related. The physical building was done through (1) common sense, (2) instructions, and (3) youtube.

NewEgg is one of the best sources for individual parts (though they've come down a little in quality in both terms of speed in shipping and customer service), but I don't know about their pre-made systems.

I've been using cloned computers at home since I was 19. I use these stupid Dell shits at work and I want to hurt someone sometimes.
I used to build my own PCs, then I slipped once hooking up the power source, plugged in 2 or 3 prongs and fried everything attached to the mobo. I haven't built a PC since.

Sure .... if you're incapable of building one yourself.
You can build the same machine and save yourself 100-200 using the same source.

I really don't mind paying someone else to do it for me. Its totally worth it. I know no one that can build a pc and I wouldn't even begin to know where to start building one.

That's definitely the scariest part.

I feel the same way about cars. I used to do all the work on my car myself and saved money but it was such a hassle. Now I don’t mind paying other people to do it. I’ve looked under the hood twice, out of curiosity, twice since I bought Baby Jumbo in 05.
Anyway, you can’t beat an out-of-the-box for $1000. I use a Mac and even I would consider it for a second gaming rig.

I agree. I'd spend hours putting a PC together and not to mention the frustration due to the fact I've never done it before. What's another 100-200? If money were intended to be held on to they'd have made it with handles.

Newegg is killing me right now since they shipped my last purchase DHL (which was transferred to USPS). Shipped on 12/28 from Jersey to my office in DC and I'm still waiting. But this is the first bad experience I've had. I bought a bunch of stuff for work from them and memory/new keyboard and mouse to upgrade my home desktop and had no problems.

newegg.come for desktops 01-05-2009 03:25 PM Holy fuck just answer his question and quit making the same dumbass suggestion to build it.
Umm ... no.
No clue what brand the vid card is, no clue what brand the two HDs are ... let alone if they're new or refurbs. No clue about the board or memory brand.
My suggestion will always be to build when too many unknowns exist and or the cost of building is significantly more cost effective.
In short ... go fuck yourself.

Probably took a little bit longer due to DHL canceleing all of their shipping programs.

Didn't they used to be egghead software?
There was one on wolf road in Albany back in the day- bought my first software evar there.
And the gridlock that is DC for the President Elect certainly does not help.

... how do you "slip hooking up the power source".

Yeah it pretty much was epicfail. This was a while back (2000 or 2001) and I was plugging in the lead from the mobo to the PSU. It was a little 3 prong male to female deal, anyway I guess I had a shiver or sneeze or just general retardness strike because I plugged only 2 of the 3 prongs in and didn't realize it. Hooked everything else up, turned it on, POOF.

I can see how this confused you.
LOL burn. Everything I ever needed to know about male to female relations I learnt from Sean2.

If you've got three prongs, you put two in the pink and one in the stink, I don't know where you put the two that got in, but you should notice if you miss with one.

I think I'm gonna have Digital Storm build something for me. They seem to have really good customer service and a solid rep. Little bit more expensive but piece of mind is priceless.
