View Full Version : Starting towns...

Anyone happen to know if starting towns are random or race specific?
Only did it twice but its annoying enough. I wanted to make a new elven bard based out in the landing but the gen keeps spitting me into Vaalor.

You can choose if you are Premium. I believe it has to do with the population of a town at any given time, but the Mentors will know more than me on that *nudge Chica*

They's supposed to be random according to the Mentors unless you're a premie.

On a free, no credit card account, 100% of the time you end up in Vaalor. I know this from hours of experience.
When you're using a pay account, it is random between the Landing, Icemule, and Vaalor.
And, of course, Premium members get to choose their starting location.

All righty. I'm on a pay account so I guess its back to the inn a few more times.
On a side note, I can see why so many people got confused about Tsoran's spreadsheet and training. At level 0, you can train to level 1 skills. So you think your all set until it doesn't spread as far as you want it heh.

Wish they'd use Sol and RR as starting towns too.

I wish they'd use Zul Logoth, Teras, Hidden Settlement, Northern Caravansary, Ta'Illistim, and Pinefar. Not happening.

There are at least low-level hunting grounds around RR and Solhaven.

Sol is going to become a Newbie Start Location, RSN.

Makes sense. It'd be a good one, and then there'd be more people in Sol.

Eh, there'll always be cliques. A lot of cliques just don't want jokers trying to kill time while their head emptied bothering them. If you try to make friends, you'll make friends.
And even if not, dude, if fifty newbies hit Solhaven this week, a couple months from now THEY'd be their own clique.

I started a new character there when GSIV linked, one of the new races. He's had no trouble at all. Hadn't had a character down in Solhaven for more than coed bath house trips or to hit the cutter in over two years either.

Laughs, I think I would make the best of things if I got dropped off in Pinefar. Most people would probably either beg for a ride or go kill themselves to pop in at Icemule.
RR is now very isolated and has a confusing system of travel. New players would constantly bug the local population about how to travel to and from the island. Yes, while some of you wonderful players would be more than happy to answer the same question repeatedly, others will not.
Solhaven I suppose makes sense, but its about 5 minutes easy walk without a script from the Landing.

Mm, got a point there. Maybe RR as a chosen location for premies, but not as a random location for Prime?

Solhaven was always intended to be a newbie drop point. What the current plans are, I don't know. It should be a newbie drop in my opinion. RR is unlikely to become a newbie drop unless they change the transportation to the mainland.
As for free accounts always going to Vaalor, I understand that freebies can not get past the ferry from Vaalor to Illistim, so they can only play in Vaalor until they start paying for the game. That would explain why all new freebie characters go to Vaalor.

In gs4? ok, in gs3, false
With tons of account made by zone.com, I, after 5-10 tries (scripts is fun) ended up in landing.
Starting in EN is evil, almost no script works there to hunt :P:cool:

This ain't GS3, it's GS4, and Bob's right -- if you're on a trial account, you always wind up in Vaalor. My Mentor friends are mumbling about wanting that put on a front page or something, 'cause they get all the oldbie whiners who log in fifteen times straight trying to get to the Landing.

Does anyone else hate the EN? I dont even have legitimate reasons for how much I dislike them. I went there once and that was enough to convince me that I had no business crossing the Dragonspines until old Ta'Faendryl.

I tried to get into Solhaven, but I didn't enjoy it much. Icemule hasn't been too fantastic lately either, so I moved myself to the Landing, and have found an abundance of RP there, more than there used to be.

I agree it's gs4 now, then, how can you start an account without a CC if zone.com is dead for gs?
Bob saids: On a free, no credit card account, 100% of the time you end up in Vaalor. I know this from hours of experience.
How can you get that, now?

Most of my characters are of non-elven decent.. and as such dispise Ta'Illistim. Falgrin especially doesn't like it... crooked streets... zombies at the Dais (That you can't steal from.. which is plain stupid)...
Love to hunt some of the critters there.. just don't like the town at all.

I remember being pissed that it took the better part of a day (or so it seemed) to get there and that there weren't any forges, or something like that. EN = teh suck.

There is a lot of rp and fun in Solhaven if you make the effort...
My main character do not hang in town proper as large crowds bother her...
But when I came to Haven over two years ago it took me a bit to find my niche but I did.
No I am not in a clique.
You have to give such a small community some time to get to know you. There is a small group of core rp'ers.
Sometimes I just want to veg out and hunt solo... not feel likeI have to speak to everyone I see and make them my best bud.
In Solhaven the key is to be you and be about.. make yourself known....
Ask for a hunting partner or join one of the hunts folks put together.
When it becomes a newbie drop well things will change... That is for sure...
Anyway we all have our favorite cities. Mine just happens to be Solhaven.

Tsoran when is yer rogue gonna come and sweep mine away?

I hate the mine carts. Hate them. I don't see the reason to be in this thing for 5 or so minutes. Twice!
I don't mind the rest of the trip with the climbing and such to give it realism. Yeah whatever with the realism. But the carts are teh suck.

Illistim sucks donkey cock. If it wasn't for the hunting I wouldn't bother.
And you can get trial characters from the main web site.

Where is the link to make a trial character without a CC#? I'm not seeing it, I just see the link to the regular billing page where you have to enter one.
Bobmuhthol

The link to it is at Elonka.com, it's the December 5 update or something.
Trial characters can only end up in Vaalor, btw.

Oh God I hate the crooked streets in Illistim, they piss me off so bad. And I never knew that about Vaalor.. Why do they do that? Just to indrectly force old players coming back to sign up or to keep the newbs away from the abrasiveness that is the Landing? Maybe that's why the Landing isn't as bad as it used to be, no complete newbs stirring things up.

I know for a fact you don't always start in Vaalor. My new character started out in the landing.

He's saying FREE TRIAL accounts, as in the first month you register and Simu doesn't have your info on file.

Hey, I live in the Nations, and never came back (except for various merchant things, like this month, for the Spit). I love it there.
As for not stealing on the dais, you can't steal in TSC, or Victory Court in Vaalor, etc, etc, etc.
Me, I happen to think the West = teh suck.
And if you think Illistim's streets are crooked, wtf is up with Icemule and Solhaven? I get lost in those towns easy as pie, but I know Illistim pretty well now.
Oh, and Illistim DOES have a forge.
The only thing is there's no Voln, but since Voln sucks hardcore penis, it doesn't matter.

With the free trial accounts, you also can't leave vaalor. That's stupid.
Ice mule is easy to learn. The four basic streets form a cross with TSC in the middle. All your commerce (bank, gem shop, furrier, pawnshop), as well as a few stores (fire wood, clothier, the cottage, and the general store) are in the southeast. Southwest is your inns, pub, and armor/weapon shops. Northwest is the sorcerer's guild, alchemist, and magic type stuff. Northeast is the temple, cleric/empath guilds, cleric shop, herbalist, and voln.
