have any of you built a faraday cage? Would it be difficult cage my basement?

Do you just want to cage off your furnace/hot water tank/fuse box?

My faraday is running around breaking stuff.
if you have had the dream, you will know why I need one. If you haven't had the dream, I can't tell you about it. In fact, I may have said too much already.
I found some info on the interweb, but I don't know very much about physics, so I don't know how accurate it is.
If I build one, I think that radio waves can no get in, but I can still run a cable through it, yes?

1. Why would you need a Faraday Cage?
2. Why are asking how to build one? It's easy to do and has nothing to do with physics. (You don't need any knowledge of physics to build one)
3. Why would you need a Faraday Cage?

Yes, you can put a cable through a Faraday cage without seriously compromising its deflective power. Be sure to leave burnt offerings at his benzene ring altar, just to be sure.

When I built my house, I had the walls lined with a fine metal mesh 1/2 inch thick behind the dryway upstairs and downstairs. I built some custom mesh coverings the fit into my windows. I've had the dream, and I am not messing around.

1. I need it to protect my upstairs from EMPs which may result from something I am working on in my cellar.
2. I consider electricity to be a part of physics. If it isn't, then I revise may statement to "I am not overly educated in the workings of whatever division of science focuses primarily on the behavior of electricity. All of the undergrad and grad classes have been in math that is only tenuously able to be applied to real world applications. I am glad to hear you believe such a thing is easy. Since I have never done it before and don't have someone to show me how to do it, I am finding it considerably less than easy. I assume it is not easy enough to explain in a post, or you would have.
3. I need it to protect my upstairs from emp's which may result from something I am working on in my cellar.
As to whether I troll much, I guess it is relative. I can only answer that I do not troll as much as some. I may be totally misreading the ending of your post, but it seemed you were trolling by calling me a troll....

ok, to spare me from three more pages, maybe you can just answer these questions:
1. Does the thickness of the meshing make much of a difference?
2. Does material of mesh make much of a difference?
3. Can cables enter and leave the cage?
If it matters, I am expecting output akin to about three microwave ovens. I am working on this project in our finished basement. It is too cold in the garage. My wife is not keen on having the basement look like a laboratory. I was hoping to mask the cage in the walls, or make a portable cage. It would need to be at least ten by ten, 14 by 14 would be better. (meters) I want the cage to keep anything upstairs from frying.

I'm more curious what you're doing that outputs the same field as three microwaves.

1. Not really.
2. Brass is best. I use this: Click Me (http://www.twpinc.com/twpinc/control/product/~category_id=TWPCAT_1/~product_id=018X018B0170W36T;jsessionid=70B4DC88C6 4520167D90EB5B9639693A.jvm1)
3. Use shielded cables. Line the hole in the cage where the cables pass with steel wool.

Sounds like he wants to heat his basement via microwave...
It'd be kinda cool to have a faraday cage in the walls of your house... Nobody'd be able to steal your WIFI, an EMP or solar-wind wouldn't affect your house, and you can keep the government from spying on your thoughts.
If you're not a troll, why ask about it on a Gemstone Forum? Go to some science forum and ask them.

I built my house out of asbestos that aerosolizes really easily so it's entirely fireproof.
You guys are so lucky to not live apparently anywhere near a co-op board. If you're actually able to do this, no one cares what you're up to. Here's some sodium to throw in a swimming pool. Shit.
