View Full Version : Healing Tipping Survey

Just a non-poll survey/discussion of tipping for healing here:
1) What do you tip for healing (as a non-empath)?
2) What do you expect (or consider to be average) as a tip for healing (as an empath)?
If you want to just leave a quick post stating expectations, I've made a few wound cases to make things a little easier (basically according to my own personal tiers):
A) 1x rank 1, 1x rank 2 wounds
B) 1x rank 1, 2x rank 2 wounds
C) 2x rank 2, 2x rank 2 wounds
D) 3x rank 1, 1x rank 2, 1x rank 3 wounds
E) 2x rank 1, 3x rank 2, 2x rank 3 wounds
My personal opinions:
1A) 1k
1B) 2k
1C) 3k
1D) 4k
1E) 5k
If I have a single rank 2 wound I usually tip 1k or something. If it's a nervous system wound, I usually tip more. I have heard some people just do 500 per rank 1 and 1000 per rank 2, but what do you guys usually do? I don't play an empath or anything. How much (if at all) do you think that criteria varies for low vs. higher level characters?

People always just tip me random amounts. Usually I'll tip 1200 regardless of what wounds I have when I'm not playing an empath.
I ususally tip in gems. I always try to keep nice gems on me for tipping. If I run out, average is 2k. (maybe more if lots of wounds)

I usualy eat herbs to get them down to minors, then run to the landing (Solhaven healers are scarce at times) and get those healed to avoid the long herb RT for major scars. Then depending on the number, I tip anywhere from 1k-5k.

Do empaths get less exp from taking a major wound that was herbed-down to a minor than they would if it wasn't? Do the scar levels for that wound still stand or what? I don't have an empath so I really don't know exactly how it works.
Another odd duck

I'm not sure about the exp, I just don't want to bleed to death making the trip or suffer the RT of major scars.

Bot empath > all
Sigil of Mending > town empaths
Otherwise, 1k - 3k depending on severity. Oddly enough, when I was playing I always felt obligated to tip more for the same wounds when dead.
500 per minor, 1000 per major.

Not a fucking thing.
Empaths can fuck themselves.
I'd rather tonis/mending and buy the herbs/pots.
If I like them, I'll tip them in mana thereby reducing the service/leeching to free exp.
Lastly, fuck empaths.

Wow, some of you are tipping way too much. Honestly stop that shit. 99% of empaths are complete fucktards and spend silvers on the stupidest of shit. Stop contributing to this behavior.
My tips were always less than 500 silvers and that was only if the person wasnt a complete assclown. Which was rare.

That's what I always did. Empty my pockets and if not a gem. I always had a pouch full that I planned on getting purified or was going to get someone to sell for me in Ill since I was DE.
Mostly just ended up having a huge pouch of gems.

How much I tip is heavily level dependant. If I'm level 3 my tip might only be 100 silvers. If I'm in my low teens usually 800-1200 silvers for 1-2 wounds. Once I am not worrying constantly about my bank balance it's 1K minimum, and then how much extra is based on how severe the wounds are or how many I have. Nerve damage and eye wounds I always pay more. I try to keep nice gems for empath tipping once I hunt places they aren't a rarity to find them in.
I've tried tipping with wands from my hunts with my lower level characters because nice wands sell for quite a bit at the pawnshop or can be saved up for deeds but empaths almost never accept them. I've never understood why.
I always carry important herbs with me for field healing, especially with my nonsociety characters, so often by the time I see an empath I only need minor help.

The only time I interact with empaths anymore for healing is when I wind up dead.
Death by incinerator -25k
Death by manglement -10k
Death by scarab -1k (blood only)
Death by lucky crit - 5k (usually 1 rank 2 wound)
Trap setting off deaths are due to my multi-tasking, and forgetting words like "other."
All it takes is one phone call, or dinner burning, or the dog yakking on the living room floor ... ect.
If the empath fogs in and brings me back to town, I add an additional 5k.
Otherwise, I have a one of those herb kits, stocked with all the necessities.

While playing my empath, I'm not concerned with a tip, just as long as an effort is made of some kind, like gratitude or a cheap gem. Just acknowledge that I did do some healing there and thank me at least.
I don't like to use empaths with my other characters, but if it comes to that point, I give them as much as it would cost me in herbs, so it depends on the wounds.

I hunt for silver, so when healing, I don't really have a set rate. I'm with CT. Just a general acknowledgement of the service. I haven't been sitting around healing much lately. I can't stand other empaths.

Out of curiousity, why do you hate empaths? Too many vultures jump on you? Did one break your heart?
Did one trip you while skipping? ( I couldn't resist!...Come on...it's funny.)

He hates Empaths because he feels that they shouldn't be able to hunt as well, if not better than all of the other professions. I don't think in any other MMO there is a Healing profession that can hunt as well as other classes

I'm probably going to stop tipping empaths well. It's kind of annoying getting hugged, smiled at, having "THANK YOU!!!111" yelled at me, or getting beamed at every time I hand over a pink sapphire as a tip. It's not that big of a deal, but I can't just demeanor them cold either, they're healing me. For every normal person saying "thanks", there's 3 of 'em doing one of the above and reminding me why I should just get the herbs.

I'm not looking for tips when I heal, but the interaction. I like talking to people and don't really care how much I get, so long as the person gives it in thanks and not the idea of treating me like a healing vending machine. That said, it's very rare for me to get a tip in excess of 1k, much less anything mentioned here. Most times, it's 500 or less.

1) Empaths are one of the best hunters in the game.
2) Empaths get easy exp from a method other than hunting.
3) No profession should get both.
QED: Fuck Empaths.
Since they can hunt I don't like giving them exp. If they couldn't hunt as well then I'd reconsider my stance on tipping/healing.
Note: I don't have such a hatred for clerics because they can't hunt that well compared to other professions.
Also, I haven't RP'd in years.

I use herbs too, unless a healer is around - which is rare. The majority of healers in plat don't accept tips.
When I do, it's usually a nice gem or some multiple of 1111 - depending on the severity and number of wounds.

I've honestly never seen an empath scream a THANK YOU!!!!111`1!! at anyone for a decent tip, so i'm going to assume you're exaggerating. However, to say that they can't be themselves and smile, giggle, or hug because they take a bad set of injuries from you doesn't really make much sense as i'd say most empaths are dulled towards the pain of the craft. Or at the very least can tune it out (or maybe enjoy it).

Of course it's a bit of an exaggeration, it just happens more often when you tip well. It's not a big deal, I just find it mildly annoying in a weird sort of way. I'm sure it doesn't happen anywhere near as often as I said, it just sticks out in your mind more than usual, sort of like how people perceive fumbles as happening disproportionately often.

Nothing like taking on a gaping chest wound, a fractured skull, and a broken neck to make ya bounce around like a giggling idiot while smiling, hugging, and screaming a THANK YOU!!!!11`1!! at me after getting a tip worth about 10 cents.
Actually, a lot of people try to hug Nilandia after she heals them, and she's never been the type of empath to act as if she's on a permanent sugar high. She more than once has screamed in pain because of it and once passsed out after she healed an incineration and got bearhugged, but few people ever caught on to why. I'm sorry, but after I just willingly took enough damage to rip my chest open and tear my throat out, I'm not going to be in a huggy-huggy mood. It's one of the major reasons Nilandia is constantly set to a reserved demeanor with Sylvans and empaths to neutral. Even so, I still get it on a regular basis.
However, to say that they can't be themselves and smile, giggle, or hug because they take a bad set of injuries from you doesn't really make much sense as i'd say most empaths are dulled towards the pain of the craft. Or at the very least can tune it out (or maybe enjoy it).
This is the foundation for Nilandia's theory on empathic magic. Because there's such a reliance on empaths and because most people seem not to feel pain, she's come to the conclusion that over-reliance on empathic practices (with incessant cycles of sometimes serious injury and instant repair) result in residual damage to the body, particularly in the nerves. This damage can manifest in a variety of ways. Most common is the inability to feel pain, which lead to some just going on with life as if nothing happened, while others seek out pain as a way of assuring themselves that they can still feel something.
Little wonder that she prefers other methods that, she believes, provide more complete healing, and uses empathy only when necessary or when the patient prefers.

Don't get me wrong, I've made a number of awesome Empath friends but I really dislike the design of Empaths.
If I have wounds, I'll check the statue first and if someone I know is there I'll ask. If they're awake then I get healed and mana as tip. If not, then town herbalist and/or bench + mending/tonis.
Sometimes I'd rather just skip the entire interaction process. HURRAY RP!!!!1

I feel bad accepting tips cuz I make plenty of money hunting and only heal when it's needed. If you come to Icemule, don't give me tips. Give me mana instead.
:D
I cannot stress enough how much I honestly despise healing.
I haven't actually IC healed in a long time, with the exceptions of close friends or Nalfein/Vaalorian elves. If she really is bored out of her mind, she'll heal perhaps one person if they ask her directly and interact in some way. Sometimes I heal my one friend OOCly, just in exchange for wizard spells, but that is really it.
Zuie doesn't like the idea of taking peoples pain or wounds or agonies away. First of all, she's one narcissistic bitch. Secondly, she rather cause the wounds than relieve them. Thirdly, she hates touching strangers.
When Zuie is around a town center, she always grows every herb, and stacks the benches for people to use. Me and Zuie love people that come into the dais and are like:
Dude walks in.
Dude says, "Any healers?"
Couple minutes pass by.
Dude says, "Still no healers?"
Couple more minutes pass by.
Dude says, "I'm bleeding."
Zuie glances at the bench.
Zuie says, "There are herbs on that bench."
Dude says, "Nah, I'll wait. I don't like herbs."
But when I play my other characters and they need to be healed. I always tip them around 5k, or a really nice gem. Personally because, I know how much of a bloody pain it is, and how annoying and time consuming healing scars are at younger levels.

Btw 2k and 5k depending on who the empath is and how bad I'm banged up. Or a decent gem if I know the empath doesn't accept silvers. Then again, most empaths at the statue don't accept tips (at least not from me), so I dunno. They're just silvers anyway. Who gives a shit? Saves me the time of buying/eating herbs.

I wish more empaths stocked the healing spots with herbs. Icemule at least is always totally picked over. I think the only person I ever see stock it up is Silversoft.
Then again, I've also heard that some empaths have been known to take the herb stash and toss it into the nearest barrel so more people ask for healing. I prefer getting healing in the first place, but it's always nice to have that fall-back.
To be fair, I don't give mass spells as often as I could, either. I suppose I'd have to log a wizard in specifically for that task though, since I don't really play them much.

Why do the empaths have to stock up the spots with herbs? If you want to use herbs, why shouldn't you just go buy some and keep them on you? I guess I just don't understand that logic. You don't want to be healed by an empath for whatever reason (non-specific you), you don't want to tip them or give them xp, but you want them to use their mana to make herbs for you?
I don't have a problem with empaths not making herbs. My problem is what Myrefalcon does, he takes herbs that other people have bought, made, or found and left on the bench and throws them out.

I don't accept tips of silvers or gems for healing. I routinely fill up the bench in North Market. I feel a little insulted when someone stands right next to me and eats herbs to heal, not sure why. I know it is a personal choice, but it almost seems demeaning, like they don't want ME to heal them. I do gain most of my experience from healing, as I am not a good hunter. I try and do a little rp as I heal. I heal fast, but then I try to treat the person I healed as I would a recovering patient.
I hope that my method of healing is not adding to the problems, I know that empaths have a bad reputation overall as vultures, bots, and fluffs.
I take coffee or chocolate as tips, because in RL, someone giving me a gift of coffee or chocolate would thrill me.
Remember that empaths with severe head/nerve damage or missing hands/arms cannot accept things. I've had people get mad at me for not accepting their gifts when most of my body was missing! Also, during invasions, please hold off on tipping, it is really hard to run away in terror with 17k in your pockets.
If you are in Solhaven, and need some scratches patched up, stop by North Market and see me, or help yourself to herbs on the bench. Send out a thought if you need healed up in the field, I enjoy popping out to heal people on the fly.
I chose to be an empath, not because the exp is easy, or the loot is good, but because I genuinely like helping people enjoy the game. Please, give the newer healers some grace, if they start out observing empath-bots and no one ever tells them about a better way to play - how will they know?

This pisses me off because I try to leave healing to the younger empaths (which there seem to be none around Icemule lately) and every time I turn around this asshat is cleaning off the bench. So I feel bad for whoever is asking for healing because they're not going to find much help on the bench and I heal them.
Oh well...I'm done bitching, I can't stop him from doing it anyway.

I like stocking up the benches myself and find it hard to bite my tongue when asshats begin to clean it off or complain when some people prefer herbs over empaths. From the way some of the empaths act, I don't blame them. There's only a handful of healers I respect and like working with. Oh, yeah, I certainly agree that there's no incentive (if not counter-productive) for them to do it.
In all likelihood, the benches (or what have you) get totally stocked but the herbs either get discarded or gobbled up too quickly by those who steer clear of empaths. My original comment was little more than an idealistic wish (not surprising that I'd let loose that kind of drivel this time of year).
