I just created a Dwarven warrior especially to run into Cavernhold to collect the crystals needed for the second portion of the quest.

However, I can't seem to find the [Cavernhold, Crystal Mine] room that this guide (http://www.mularos.com/deathsting.html) refers to.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it past the locked invisible door to the east of Tsoran's Cavernhold map? Its incredibly annoying, because my rogue is Half-Elven and therefore can't reach that door, but my Dwarven warrior lacks the picking skills to unlock it.

Let me just say up front how stupid this quest is, that you must be Halfling or Dwarven to complete a significant portion of it.

Yeah, you need to unlock the door.

Try using the disarm alchemy potions, I think they work on the Graveyard gate in WL.

I've got about 20 of the unlock potions sitting in my shop if you want to make a deal for residue.

Nuke the dwarf, roll up a dwarf rogue, bring him to level 2 or 3 or something, shouldn't take too long. Train in only lockpicking and physical fitness. Give him a few lockpicks. The door's got a very simple lock.

what does this quest get you that makes it worth the trouble?

Free death sting potions.

And blowjobs.

Cavernhold is a level 14 area. Plus, you need I believe 90 Bonus in perception to find the door.

The character I camped there was level 5 or something. Made it through just fine. And if you get killed? Decay and try again.

Since nobody ever goes in there, the place is pretty much empty of creatures until you step in there and get the spawn rate starting. It's easy enough to run through in defensive to where you need to go. And the room with the crystals is safe.

That sig is so disturbing, relative to this 'residue creation' discussion.

Once you search out the door to the entrance, it's really easy. Pick the door (I think a -130 lock), then, once inside the door:

go north (don't stay in the entrance room, the sand shifts and you can fall into a pit and randomly lose items on your person - I lost an 8x runestaff that way)
north
east
southeast
southeast (you will get random arrow shots in this room if you are not hidden or invisible)
go bridge (again, random arrows unless hidden or invisible)
go stair
northwest (you'll need to pick the door here, it's hidden. -125 lock)
Open door, go door
west
northwest
north
north
northeast
north
north
north
go recess
go bridge
southwest
northwest
You should now be in the Crystal Mine area - this is where the miners spawn. To get the crystals you need, you'll need to turn the crank, which will allow the miners to get to the crystals. Once they've gathered some random amount of crystals, they'll move southeast and start towards the shrine where they place them in a box. Anyway, once they've collected them and moved you can either kill them or I suppose you could steal from them (not sure if you can or not).

Crystals are essentially worthless, but I guess for your quest thing they'll work fine. Also, the gnolls will usually leave you alone unless you kill one of them, think like the invasion critters than don't attack unless you kill one of them first.

Good luck

The miners will place them in the right area on their own for the purposes of making residue. It's automatic. You turn the crank, a miner will show up, get some crystals, leave, and then place the crystals in the bucket at the spire. No need to kill them.

Brought my dwarven warrior up to level 6 with maxed out lock picking. At 16 ranks, he can use alum, which means picking the doors isn't a problem.

What is frustrating is he has to stand out in the open with both hands free to effectively pick the doors. This puts him in 20 seconds of RT, during which time gnolls have walked into the room and sent him to see Lorminstra...

Allow me to reiterate how stupid this quest is.

You should train in brawling and pick with the right hand open.

Can a larger character ring in?

I'm interested in knowing if anyone ever figured out how aiming the lens at the trees affects from which nest the hornet comes. There has to be a correlation right? Or why have the 5x5 grid of trees and let you point the lens?

Does anyone know if this has been solved? I'm dying to figure it out--but the small part of it I've done is a lot of work, and I'm not going to bust my ass if someone's already got it.

I was never able to figure it out. It was easier to just brute force it.

Yeah, the "Death's Sting" quest, pretty much the most retarded idea they have put out in a long time, OH, other than "Death's Sting" it's self. Why not just quit the fucking drama and just up the cost of deeds, get rid of sting unless you die without a deed and go from there? Would have taken a HELL of a lot less in resources.
