Tsoran is just the most obvious proof that clerics are the best profession in the game.

Can you believe it? A cleric who's the best mapper in the lands? Zepath rolls over in his grave (figurative) every time someone hits www.tsoran.com and rightly so. All those rangers are shameful!

Ignoring for a moment all the accolades (thanks!), the issue of which profession is best for making maps is an interesting one.

Clerics and (for now) empaths have the advantage since they can cast minor sanctuary, which is the primary mapping skill. It's really hard to draw maps and search for hidden exits when you're fighting for your life. It also permits you to map places way above your head.

A few years ago, rangers got a SENSE verb that lets them spot hidden exits more easily, which is clearly an advantage. However, this is somewhat diminished by the PnC features in StormFront, which take a lot of the guesswork out of finding hidden stuff.

So, yeah, I'd have to agree that for making maps, clerics are probably the best profession.
