It's a tag for people looking for friends to RP or hunt with. A quote like that though sounds like this fool is an uberloser, if that's a real quote.

Yeah you can flag yourself as looking for a group. Since the WHO has changed to look for certain professions as well, this way if someone wants to hunt with a warrior, they can do a who warrior and see who is online who wants to group. I think it's neat, and one of the features I liked when I played DAOC.

Is there any way to hide your character completely from the WHO command? I want no part of that system.

If you don't show your profession, or PROFILE TOGGLE GROUP, you won't show up on specific WHO <profession> or WHO GROUP showing. But you will always be on WHO FULL, I believe.

Man.

But .. but .. but .. I don't get it. Why put that on your profile deliberately??

Man...that was really, really, really funny.

And to answer fallen's question. There really is no way to hide your presense ingame from the who full command. However you can basically toggle off almost all info about you in your profile. The only thing that MUST remain is Name, Race, Gender.

If you're in the game, you're available to be found with the WHO command. No ifs, ands or buts. Live with it. Always been that way, always will. :P

I dont mind so much that others know my character is in the land, though it makes little sense from an IC standpoint.

What I do not like is players giving their characters information about my characters without so much as even seeing him in person. I understand that situations such as knowing someones name or what have you are unavoidable. However, I certainly do not wish to add to this obsurdity by having additional information unintendedly floating out there for others to grab.

And it's not like that in every online game there is? C'mon.

I could give a good god damn what other games are like or what the standard currently is. Before this system didnt exist in GS3/4, now it does.

i don't see the big deal just toggle everything off then except like the 4 things you cant .. title, name, race, and gender which anyone can see just by looking at you.

>profile info
You are currently able to display the following information in your profile:
* Title
* Name
Looking for a Group
Profession (displayed only if your profession is showing)
Level
* Gender
* Race
Age
Features
Culture/Clan
Citizenship
House Membership
Society Affiliation
Guild Affiliation
Chosen Deity
Toughest Foe (may only be displayed if you have killed anything)
Quote

* = always displayed
+ = currently displayed, may be turned off

and all people will see is.

I don't get it. You can toggle just about everything off except your name, race and gender. So now people know that you're this race and that you're a guy. How is people knowing which set of parts your character's supposed to have -- that is if everyone's thirsting to hit PROFILE FALLEN, which mebbe they're not -- outing you, particularly?

I do not wish for players to give their characters OOC/OOG information on my characters. I was not sure of the extent of this verb, and what functions must/can be disabled to prevent this problem.

What part(s) of the above statement are you having difficulty comprehending?

Hey, no prob. If you want to rant about people getting info they could always get, it's a free world. Complete with black helicopters too, I bet.

My real point, if you want one that bad, is that you're being paranoid above and beyond the call of analness. Your name has ALWAYS been available to all comers. Your race and profession have almost ALWAYS been visible to all viewers. For almost all of the history of the game we could tell your rough level and a lot of other facts about you. Hey, guy, there's never been a time where you could hide as much as you can now.

So if you have to have a real point, yer being a goof about this. It's sorta like saying "GEMSTONE SUCKS, THEY WONT LET ME PLAY A FURRY VAMPIRE ILLUSIONIST."

There. Feel better?

Your name has ALWAYS been available to all comers. >>

True. I never said differently.

Your race and profession have almost ALWAYS been visible to all viewers. >>

Not with the fame flag off.

For almost all of the history of the game we could tell your rough level and a lot of other facts about you. >>

Not without physically seeing my character, a point you seem to have overlooked or simply cannot grasp.

There. Feel better?>>

No. Your abrasive attitude is tiresome and I am finding it hard not to sink down to your level.

Yeah, duh, they had to look at you to get that information; no kidding.

What YOU don't seem to grasp is this: who the hell do you think you are that people you've never met a continent away are thirsting to pull up your information, and what the hell do you think they're going to do with it? I mean WTF, this is the Gemstone version of being a survivalist Aryan Nations follower in Montana here. You can be that egotistical AND that paranoid if you want, but people are going to figure you for a whackdoodle.

And heck, dude, the pretty attitudes are on the official forums.

I think everyone in here and in the game has a pretty valid and truthful opinion already of this fucker, Mint, so no worries. How he talk about others being judges of people they've never met, I don't know, as the fucking moron is too afraid to even post his character name, even though its been pretty much speculated on.

Fallen

It seems we have reached a point where we have both expressed our opinions.

I do not believe people should be able to access to information regarding my character without physically being in the same room with him.

You dont like my point of view and have judged and labled me accordingly.

*shrugs*

Thank you for your time.

CrystalTears

My only question is, why the mystery to keep your character so hidden? It's not as though it pinpoints your exact location. It just states you're in the game, your name, your profession and gender. I personally don't understand why the huge need to be invisible to anyone not in the immediate room with you. Not even life is that secure.

Galleazzo
02-05-2004, 04:53 PM
(shrugs) No, he's right. He's said his piece, we can't figure it out, and no one's convincing anyone of anything.
