Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the wife of “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, has passed away, Access Hollywood has learned. She was 76.

The actress died of leukemia at 12:27 AM on Thursday with her son, Rod, by her side. She was diagnosed with the disease six months ago.

Majel, whose acting credits included “Bonanza” and “Leave It To Beaver,” had been a part of “Star Trek” in all of its forms since it first premiered on September 8, 1966.

In addition to playing Number One and Nurse Christine Chapel in the original series, she played Deanna Troi’s mother on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

And Majel also voiced the computer of the various starships used throughout all of the TV shows and movies from the sci-fi franchise — she just completed her voiceover work as the voice of the Enterprise in director J.J. Abrams’ reboot of “Star Trek,” due in theaters on May 8, 2009.

Geeky enough that this bothers me.

That's sad. She was a funny, quirky actress.

Janeway: Coffee. Black.
Computer: *beep* Make it yourself.

Fact.

Also, someone should make a poll of which Star Trek Series they liked the most.

I'm a TNG guy, and always will be, but I really like the contiguous nature of DS9.

I'd say DS9 > TNG > Voyager > TOS > Star-Trek Cartoon > Nimoy's Records > Shatner's Records > Enterprise

It's hard to put DS9 above TNG, because they're both great, but overall I think DS9 had me "sucked into the show" more whereas I simply enjoyed the hell out of TNG.

except for the alternate universe side plot (and I don't mean the wormhole), the DS9 story was great, and if you watch the series again, there is a very comprehensive progression from beginning to end. TNG was more campy, but Q ftw.

My inner geek just died a little bit.

Warp speed, Mrs. Roddenberry.

The next generation was by far the best, though DS9 was good too.

Heh, there's a new Star Trek movie coming out and Sylar from Hero's is playing Spock :)

That movie looks incredible special effects wise. No idea if the acting will be tolerable, though.

And the guy from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz is Scotty. :D

Fitting she provides the voice for the Enterprise computer in the new movie.

Indeed a sad day for all Trek fans.

Yeah, that.

I always loved the episodes when she played Deanna's mother.

My favorite was TNG.

Is her son really Rod Roddenberry?

Rod Roddenberry? He should have been the new announcer on Price is Right! Man that was a bad stretch for a joke.

Her voice showed up for one Enterprise episode right? The alternate universe one I think. That two-parter was the best Enterprise by far, that was an absolutely horrid series.

The new Trek is going to be fucking ridiculous. I imagine it will be a good movie (as has been said, the effects look good, and Shaun is in it as Scotty), but it will cause massive Trek riots for violating some obscure cannon I'm sure and then will be panned critically because most critics are probably Star Trek nerds anyway. Then they'll have to make the next series set from the perspective of the Klingons before Star Trek 6 or some such bullshit.

You know what's really lame? Making comments through reputation.

But you can post on your phone? Lame.

Yes. I can post on my phone, but finding random news articles is a pain.

I thought of this thread yesterday morning when I was looking at my family's tree and noticed the 1994 commemorative klingon warbird ornament was broken. So I spent 10 minutes and put all the connector wires back where they're supposed to be and fixed it so it flashes again
