Letters spelling the word "neuron" (upper row) were shown to experimental subjects. The resulting patterns of brain activity were recorded through functional magnetic resonance imaging, then interpreted to produce the reconstructed letters in the lower row.

Opens the way for people to communicate directly from their mind
TOKYO - Japanese researchers have reproduced images of things people were looking at by analyzing brain scans, opening the way for people to communicate directly from their mind.
They hope their study, published in the U.S. journal Neuron, will lead to helping people with speech problems or doctors studying mental disorders, although there are privacy issues if it gets to the stage where someone can read a sleeping person's dreams.
It's fascinating how precise the brain scan images are. Even the pattern of dark and lighter spots in the backgrounds are similar. I think this just might change the future of communication. Maybe Apple will invent an I-pod for brain scan downloads! I-Brain ftw. Men can stop being annoyed when their woman asks what they are thinking. Divorce rates will skyrocket.
Also, just for a few here (yes, i'm looking at you, Neff): This is NOT telepathy. It's no more paranormal than the telephone or the TV.
