New to the empath profession

Hey I am rolling up an empath to play and I was wondering:

Whats a good race for empaths?

Going to go spellcasting or pure healing

Giantman was always my favorite.

Can carry a ton of stuff.
Highest hit points so you can heal a lot of "blood"
Decent spirit regen if you are in CoL

I never had any problems with casting or hunting as a giantman either.

I only made it to level 58 or so. I never had any problem with like-level creatures. I couldn't up hunt much.

Didn't really matter though, I could hunt bell to fried very quickly and if I didn't want to do that, I healed.

The -5 to Dex for a giant is gonna hurt you too if you decide to use bolt spells.

I never used any bolt spells so I can't speak to that. Bone Shatter worked just fine for me.

I use bolt spells quite a bit. As you get in more swarms, fire spirit and empathic assault are really helpful. My empath is an elf so the positive dex helps.

Empathic assault wasn't released when I played so I know nothing about it. I think I remember fire spirit being released and I wasn't impressed. Maybe something has changed.

The splash damage on fire spirit is the closest thing we have to useful crowd control.

I thought empathic link was a great crowd control spell that no one ever used.

Because it sucks in its current implementation. It takes too much mana to cast it at each critter that you want to link, and then if the critter moves or you crit kill the first one you just wasted that mana.
