I need help understanding a few things. Is there a point where I can stop training in perception?

What about climbing and swimming? Is there a point where I'll be able to climb anything and swim to any place in the game?

And survival. Is this something that every character has to train in? Or is it purely a novelty skill for foraging and skinning? I originally thought it helped you walk through the trail to Ice Mule from the Landing but I'm having second thoughts on that theory.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Yeah, but GS doesn't have Blood Elves.

10 ranks of perception to help you find hidden passage ways. And 1x or more if your picking fights with rogues (protects against stealing and DS pushdown from ambushing) 25 ranks of climbing will get you everywhere if your unencumbered i think. And 0 swimming unless you live in RR or your capped. I'm sure theres a few hunting grounds you need swimming but they're pretty rare. I had 0 swimming till I hunted OTF (90+ train hunting area) Not sure what to tell you on survival. I've gone with 0. But I had some when I lived in mule for the cold.

Maybe it was a retarded question but I'm getting my question answered. Thanks for the help folks. I currently have a warrior, empath, and a bard. Since you asked Droit, i'm assuming the amount you put into those skills is profession based? Again, thanks for any help.

Well, most climbing and swimming checks take physical fitness into account, so if you're well trained in PF, you can get away with less in those skills. 30 ranks of climbing is good for anywhere in the game. Swimming, like swami said, is only occasionally useful until much later. I had 30 ranks until I started hunting Nelemar.

As far as perception goes, until recently I was under the impression that perception had an effect on ambushing from hiding, but apparently it does not. I'm 1x in it, but I think plenty of people stop way below that. Keep in mind that it will reduce DS pushdown if you are ambushed.

Survival is up to you. It definitely helps keep you upright on the trail to Icemule and in the Griffins Keen, as well as keeping you warm longer in the Icemule environs. Skinning and foraging can be excellent sources of cash and bounty points, so I wouldn't discount them. If you're a good forager, most forage tasks are pretty much free XP.

LoL, I like this guy.

Also, is 10 ranks in PER really the min for checks? I always went with 20 ranks.
