View Full Version : The day the earth stood still (may contain spoilers!)
So I saw this last night on an I-Max screen.
I gave it a B.
I wish John Cleese had a larger role.
Plot reminded me of Star Trek: The Voyage Home.
I was entertained but not on an awesome scale.
Saw the trailers for:
X-Men: Origins (Wolverine) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458525/)
and
Star Trek (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/)
Cant wait until those come out.

I was always a little disappointed with how the X-Men movies strayed from the comic but I guess that's Hollywood and I still enjoyed the movies. I look forward to the new one and I heard Gambit will be in it.
Isn't the Day the Earth Stood still a remake of the 50's movie?

The trailer had gambit in it. And his role looked way cool.

Yes, but with an Al Gore slant.

Rottentomatoes has this film rated at 23%.
Meanwhile, a film about a homosexual politician is a 93% and a child-molesting priest is a 73%.
What is this world coming to?

Anyway, Milk and Doubt both look good, but I won't see either in the theater. The Day the Earth Stood Still looks interesting too, but I dunno if I can take another movie that's all ominous and warning about global warming and shit (The Happening, anyone? At least The Happening had people stabbing themselves in the neck with hairsticks and people laying under giant lawnmowers. Oh and of course the dude who had himself ripped apart by tigers (lions?), that was awesome.)

Just got back from seeing this film, and I was surprisingly pleased by the 'majority' of the casting. I think for once they found a suitable role for Keanu Reaves, not that he'll ever win an Academy Award for simply being himself in this movie.
Only complaints were Jaden Smith's character, who was perfectly arbitrary and should have died, and the contrite message of the entire flick.
Overall, I'd say it was a B for being interesting.

No actor is better suited to play a blank-faced, expressionless alien than Reeves.

I dunno, I think he excelled as Ted Theodore Logan. :D
Keanu Reeves is looking kinda' doughy and saggy around the face. But otherwise, I thought he was great for the role.
Jacob, the kid? If I'd been his mom.. or stepmom, or whatever.. I would have slapped the curl off him. Obnoxious, ungrateful, backstabbing little brat! Not quite as annoying as the little girl in the War of the Worlds remake but close. And she was WAY annoying.
I can't believe Jaden Smith has Daddy helping him remake Karate Kid. LAME.
