Yeah, as Back didn't give any details on what it is exactly, and I don't think anyone has posted about, here is the Wiki page full of details.

Someone tell me if Home is worth doing at all. Seemed like a big waste of time for me, honestly. I just don't see the appeal.

In time, Home will play host to many types of events such as exclusive game previews and developer interviews. It will be organized by Home and its affiliated content providers. Live events such as sports and concerts may also be broadcast within Home. These will all be pre-paid using the Sony Wallet System.

You're all forgetting that it's still in beta. Open beta now, but still beta.
I checked it out last night and it looks like it has potential to be awesome.
Meh. Doesn't seem worth it.
Worth what? The $0 you'll be paying for it?

After the beta?
$0 for a Kruschev flat in the bad part of Home shared with sixty of your closest friends.
For only the low low price of $9.95 a month, you can live in a place with only four people, and perhaps the walls will be painted brown instead of cracking and peeling white over concrete. You will fight in a steel cage for access to the one three legged chair.
For $39.95 a month you will be granted premium benefits like personalized furniture, access to premium only areas, blah blah blah
Sound familiar? I just don't see the point of wasting time there.

At the very least check out the movie theatre. It was a surreal experience for me personally... my avatar sitting with a bunch of other avatars in a dim virtual movie theatre watching a surprisingly good quality movie trailer can only be described as surreal.
There are also arcades full of old and new school games from Breakout to Echochrome.
Sony could use Home as a Playstation selling point, however. Just thinking in terms of a marketing tool. There is a Diesel store going in I assume so you can outfit your avatar at a price and you know the fanboy/fangirls are going to eat that kind of thing up. Its a plus for Diesel also.
But for those of us who are more interested in spending money on REAL clothes I think the draw for me would be media. As a huge media company Sony could draw me into Home with virtual previews of its movie/music offerings. An event like the preview of a new Outkast video, for example, would have me logging in.
Even though I have already spent money on a PS3 Sony might be able to sell me other things it has to offer by giving me a preview event experience.

Made a character. I didn't really see the fun in it. After walking out from the apartment, you're quickly ambushed by people running up to you dancing/grinding your leg.
My GF made a character and some guy was just like, "OMG UR SO HOT CYBER SUCK MY COCK!" Spamming it over and over. People were giving out their phone numbers on there too in the chat. Weird shit.
Hopefully they clean that up and allow for people to choose a private server.

Nice. Care to post links to anything that indicates it's going to be subscription based, despite Sony saying for the last couple years they've been working on it that it'd be free?
There's no subscription required like XBox live or whatever. It's filled with microtransactions like buying furniture and shit for your place, but none of that is needed for anything except to look e-cool, and who gives a fuck about that really? I think they're supposed to have stuff like buying movies that you can watch in HD at your "home", and can invite people into your room to watch em. I think they even give you access to free movies too. I forgot the exact deal with it, I just remember reading somewhere a while back that XBox Live will (now) has a thing where if you have a Netflix account, you can use it through there and watch anything you want through XBL, and PS Home has free movies from Universal I think and some other movie companies. I read that months ago though and don't remember if they're offering movies you can buy too or what the deal is with it right now.
Point is there's more to it than going bowling and buying e-homes. And then there's that thing of having 472839042370473029 people running around you can hook up with to go pwn Resident Evil 5. It's mostly boring right now, but later on when it fleshes out it's gonna pwn. And stuff. Beer is great.

Write those numbers down. I'm gonna call them with Al Pacino soundboards. And Arnold.

Right now, you can buy physical mods and clothing for about 45 cents a piece. So an entire outfit with a haircut would be about $5.
Some guy was ranting on how he already spent money, but I didn't see how you go abouts doing that.

What's really cool is actually going to a movie theatre and sitting with a bunch of other people to watch good movie trailers and maybe even a good movie.

I was just making a comparison, I know it is going to be microtransaction driven. It still ends up being the same in the end. You can get a lousy experience for free or pay out the nose and spend all sorts of time in game.
And Sony has already said that they will not be partnering with Netflix like Xbox.

I guarantee that the microtransaction thing is going to kill it if the economy gets any worse for kids and young adults. Right now it doesn't seem to be affecting the service sector (where many of them work) so they have money to spend on shit like this. But even with that, personally, I'd rather hook up and go pwn a real movie with a real beer in real life.

What do you define as a lousy experience? Not being able to deck yourself out with useless clothes and e-furniture for your avatar and home? I don't see how having 45723890423 people running around at any given time that you can hook up with to play X game with online for free would be a lousy experience.

Yeah, I didn't say anything about Sony pairing up with Netflix.
I guarantee that the microtransaction thing is going to kill it if the economy gets any worse for kids and young adults. Right now it doesn't seem to be affecting the service sector (where many of them work) so they have money to spend on shit like this.
Based on them being successful with the 4783209473047234 microtransactions on the Playstation store, many of which I think are pretty stupid, I don't see microtransactions killing it, unless they get ridiculously stupid with it and charge you to do anything at all. Plus PS Home is more than just a big online store to nickel and dime people with. There will be all kinds of other stuff too. I don't think Sony is that stupid to work all this time on PS Home just to get people to play Barbie with their avatars.
If anything will kill it, it'll be not having the ability to jump. It just doesn't feel right, having to walk from point A to point B instead of bouncing. I CAN'T HANDLE NOT JUMPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
And for the record, I think I'm starting to get addicted to the bowling game. I thought it was a steaming pile at first, but the more I play it, the more I like it. That Carriage whatever it's called game in the arcade is pretty addicting too.
