The timing of this sequence was truly something to marvel at.

Roundtime: 3 sec.
You attempt to blend with the surroundings and feel confident that no one has noticed your doing so.

Suddenly, the winds begin to gust. They whip around you screaming, relentless in their fury. Brought by their chill touch, waves of painful cold course throughout your body!
The blinding snow and howling wind drives you out of hiding.

[Olbin Pass, South Rim]
A rugged butte forms the southern edge of the pass. Below it, a concave bowl sweeps down towards the tree line, its curved depression filled with snow. Wandering through the forest beyond, a twisting trail can be seen leisurely making its way down the mountain. To the east and west, tall peaks cradle the pass. You also see a frozen corpse and a greater ice giant that is lying down.
Obvious paths: north, northeast, east, northwest

A frozen corpse swings a large ice pick at you!

... and hits for 64 points of damage!
Strong strike, punctures lung!
You are stunned for 6 rounds!
!S>hide
You are still stunned.

A thundering avalanche roars through the area! The world turns white as you are swept away by the snow...

... 30 points of damage!
Blow ruptures the stomach!
... 20 points of damage!
Blast of cold air to left knee causes a polar knee cap!
... 30 points of damage!
Pain penetrates your being as your left ankle shatters from the icy blast.
You sense that your attunement to the minds of others has ceased.

It seems you have died, my friend. Although you cannot do anything, you are keenly aware of what is going on around you...

You mentally give a sigh of relief as you remember that the Goddess Lorminstra owes you a favor.

...departing in 16 mins...

The last two happened in such rapid succession that I was thinking "what fucked up spell was that?!" Not to mention I forgot to re-wear my MBP before I went out.

I just got punk'd.

Isn't there, like, a warning message before that happens? I remember seeing it when I hunted up there, and I always ran like hell. I never got hit with an avalanche. Bad timing, maybe?

Yeah, you can see when they build up, just not when you're in the adjacent room. I was just in that room a second before though and hadn't seen any messaging so it was a little odd. I didn't kill a giant in there or anything either (wasn't killing, I was doing subdue reps). Didn't help that I rolled in in offensive with a blackjack in my hand.

In this case it was incredibly bad timing. I was knocked out of hiding, was slammed the instant I hit the room (and my second hide attempt resolved after the stun hit), then the avalanche came down. If any single one hadn't happened I would have been very likely to make it out alive.

you're trying to sneak by an undead creature anyway... I thought I taught you better than that?

Yeah, I can hide from them about 60-70% of the time without smastery now that I'm 14 levels over their head.

Polar bears though... still impossible.

Doesn't 602 help against that? Or just the cold winds?

Newp. Avalanches do a mixture of impact criticals and cold damage. Ranger resistance can help on the cold crits, but not the impacts.

If you yell in Oblin Pass, you can set one off intentionally. Useful for claiming the hunting area as your's!
