View Full Version : LCD TV - Burn In?

I got this 37" 1080p LCD TV I bought a couple years ago. It's a Westinghouse, which isn't a top brand, but at the time it was the only 1080p TV that wasn't $48732904723094.
For probably the past 6 months or so I'll get a temporary screen burn in, as if I was using a CRT monitor and left a still image on it for a week straight or whatever. I'm guessing it's a temperature thing, but I don't know much about these things except how to watch them.
It goes away, but eventually something else will "burn in", and it's pretty annoying.
Any idea what might be causing this (other than it not being a top brand) and/or if there are any settings I can try changing to make it stop?

What if you take it, turn it upside down, and shake it?

Dunno if this is what you're talking about or not:
LCD TVs do not suffer from burn-in, but can have a "retained pixel charge" which may also produce ghosting. Stuck pixels are also possible with an LCD display.
LCD TVs were originally designed for static data display, and not moving video. Therefore refresh rates had to be improved. LCD TVs with refresh rates below 16 ms or lower (5-15 ms) show very few noticeable artifacts. LCD TVs are now available with refresh rates specified by manufacturers as low as 5ms. ( I think this applies more when the tv is on and showing an image in motion)
EDIT: I can't type.

Yeah, LCDs don't burn. Sounds like your P board is going.

I assume you mean you see the last image when you shut it off. If this is the case it's not a big deal and don't worry about it.
If you start getting images imposed over live TV then you have a problem.

Yeah it's not a "real" burn in, as said earlier LCDs don't burn (I wasn't implying real burn in the OP, but yeah).
For example, if I have my backpack open in WoW, sometimes after I close it, I'll still see the "ghost" of my inventory boxes. They're not overwhelming to where it obstructs what's really on the screen, but it's enough to annoy the shit out of me.
It doesn't happen all the time either, it's somewhat random. Sometimes it'll go all day and not happen, sometimes it'll happen all day.
Fucksoup.

I wonder how many threads I've won so far. I think I have a hefty collection by now. Someone check on that and get back to me with a number.

TVs dying if you're getting ghost images on an LCD. Time to invest in a new one with a better refresh rate!
