SEDALIA, Mo. (Dec. 2) – A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.
The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell."

"I felt his front legs go over my face," Goodman said.
The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.
Soon, Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.
So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

Just further validation of Necromancer's theory that humans aren't meant to eat meat.

Hell, if it did, I would actually dust off my duds and go hunting again.

Heh. There's an old medieval saying about hunting deer: "After the boar, the leech; after the hart, the bier." Lucky he's not lying on one right now.

Seems like part of the risk of hunting; you're trying to deprive a large, potentially dangerous animal of its life--naturally there's some risk involved. I find it hard to feel sorry for him, especially if it was simply for sport, but I suppose he'll be more cautious from now on.

I found it amusing when we were out doing the Yosemite/Yellowstone/National Parks tour that we were told over and over that there were like 40 times as many deer attacks as bear attacks.

People are all "Oooh, look, Bambi!" and walk right up to the things, cornering them and freaking them out. So it happens way more often than you'd think, but it's freaking awesome when it's actually a hunter getting gored.

Seems reasonable that if you go with intent to take a creature's life it may reciprocate.
Who am I kidding--diagrams never lie!!

That reminds me of my brother (unfortunatly) he actually asked a dnr officer if he could hunt with a knife and jump out of a tree on a deer. The look on the dnr guys face was priceless. He told him no it was illegal and if he did he would take him to jail with a stop by the mental institution on the way.

It is illegal to hunt deer with a knife? That just sounds plain stupid. Why does a knife not fall under the "primitive weapons" season? What state are you in?

Indiana dnr lists exactly what is legal to hunt with bow minimum draw weight, muzzleloader minimum caliber, handgun minimum caliber/case length, and rifle must be chambered for handgun cartidges meeting minimum handgun regulations and must be a common handgun cartridge. Anything else is illegal. And nope it doesn't list a 12" cold steel tanto as a legal weapon for deer.

I hit a deer a few weeks back. Damn 6 pt buck smashed my suv and then ran in the other lane and was hit as well. It then lay in the gutter for a few moments and stood and tried to walk away.

The state cop who came tried to shoot it and it ran. 2 gam wardens finally cornered it and put it down.

I was supposed to drive the legacy that morning. If I had might not be here. The way I hit it (going 55 on a highway) woulda put it up into my windshield.

Damn deer are running like mad this year.

I wish I could take on two cars and then get up and walk away. How badly was it injured when it tried to walk away?

Two in the heart, one in the head WTF is the problem?

BTW, I now a Samoan guy that used to hunt boar with a machete. He still would but he's like 80 years old and doesn't run so good anymore.

Deer are crazy. I shot one through the heart this year, and the fucker ran another 300+ yards before it fell (in the wrong direction).

There was a blood trail about 3 feet wide a good chunk of the way.
