Admitting first-off that it would never work given the litany of interdependent contracts and business arrangements, I would love to see Universities abandon the NCAA and create a new governing body.

Added bonus: they could finally put the players on the athletic department's payroll.

Kinda funny I was just thinking about this yesterday.

Every other sport as a tournament style playoff system, why can't college football have one? The BCS is the most confusing f'd up system in sports.

Have the top 8 teams duke it out in a tournament at the end of the year and the last team standing is the national champion. Simple.

What I find funny is ESPN on this matter.

Before the contract was signed between ESPN and the BCS there was a lot of complaining by the writers on the BCS system. Since the contract, they've been praising it, and calling every game a "playoff".

I think there would be more teams out there trying harder to make it to an 8 team playoff as they would have a glimmer of hope rather than "oh i'm not 1 or 2, I have no chance at the championship".

At least that's what Rhett reminds himself as he weeps over Auburn's season.

Its all about money. With the current system they can have 30+ bowls, but only 2-3 mean anything, but all of the bowls are sponsered and rake in huge amounts of cash for the schools involved and the NCAA.

But you can still have bowls if you institute the playoff system. Each game of the tournament will be heavily watched and can be sponsered, as well as the teams not in the tournament could still have their many and meaningless bowls.

I used to watch college football a lot more when I was kid, actually I preferred it over the NFL. But the BCS is one of the reasons I just don't care any more.
