ooo that's much better.
Less than $100 if you book it 2 weeks in advance. Two weeks may be too long however.

I love airtran. 89 or 99 each way (in advance).

I've always just used Southwest also, only $88 booked 4 weeks or more in advance.

I was looking into this too, unfortunately, everywhere I want to fly from and to do not have cheap rates and are in small airports. I decided to rent a car instead.
Total costs of what my gf and I were going to do via plane, $1,400ish total.
Renting a car (all expenses included) $350ish

It depends where you're going. If you're going on a day trip (8-12 hours worth), then it's not a big deal. If it means driving along for many days, and also depending on the company, it could mean suicide.

According to mapquest, the trip TO TULSA... takes 13 hours... so I am going to assume 11-12 hours.
Any plane ticket I believe would have at least one stop... so between driving to the nearest airport, waiting at all airports, and having other people pick us up, drive us... Flying would only save me about 2 hours.

If it was Orlando I could drop her off for a little bit while I waited in the car, but unfortunately for you, tampa is out of the way.
Wait wait... what am I saying!! No soup for you!

So yeah, 13 hours is no big deal to avoid airport bullshit.
I wish Southwest flew into Atlanta, no such luck though.Dependable Southwest; I love this carrier for simple fact that the Chicago Base won't cancel a ton of flights at the first sign of snow. I've noticed that Airtran is your best bet fare wise which I'm sure you already know. I'll be in the ATL over the weekend and the best deal I could find on short notice was American Airlines without taking price too much into consideration. Didn't want to deal with any stop-overs this time around so I'm paying for that there "luxury", but still at a fairly decent price.

You are half right. I live in South Florida (which takes 8.5hours to get to Niceville which is in Northwest Florida) Then after 3-4 days visiting there will leave for another 11-13 hours by rental to get to Tulsa.

Ah okay.
I used to live in Miami and when I moved to CT, we drove it. I drove the part out of Florida, and my husband drove the rest. He got the better end of the deal.

Best bet is to find a family member that has a friend that works for and airline. My sister was flying in because my mom was on her deathbed and the best she could get was 2 days with about 12 layover<yes and exageration>. My sister in law called a friend of hers got her a straight in flight for half the price after explaining the situation.
Ah okay.

Yeah driving through Florida is pretty damn boring. Unfortunately my gf is trying to say that since she is 25 and me 24 (she will put the rental in her name as at 25 the rates are much cheaper), has driven in ice before, that she will drive the part from NW Florida to Oklahoma. =(

If you think driving in Florida is boring, you've obviously never driven through Kansas or Nebraska.

There's a stretch on 35 through Kansas that really made me want to stab myself repeatedly with a fork so that I didn't die from boredom. Something like 60 miles without so much as an exit.
I've also made the drive from Iowa City out to western Nebraska a few times. That wasn't much better. I played the "how fast can I go without my tires leaving the ground or getting a ticket" game.
And thanks for not including Iowa in that :)
Personally I think Wyoming is the worst state to drive through not only are there vast expanses of nothing at high altitudes but it just looks dead.

My son always flies JetBlue when he travels to California to see his dad. Depending on when you want to fly, the rates can be reasonable, or not so reasonable. (They fly into Rochester.)

Yup, pretty much all I fly these days is Airtran, unless my grandmother is using her miles and then i'll go Delta. I simply love Airtran, for lots of reasons. One of the biggest is that I can save like 200 bucks each way on business class tickets if I wait to upgrade until I check in. Sure, there's a chance there won't be any seats, but that only happened once and it was when J and I were flying back to Atlanta from LGA the weekend after the marathon and they were totally and completely booked on every flight that day. I really dislike flying to the point where it makes me physically uncomfortable, and business class somewhat eases that, so it's really worth it if I have the extra cash.
