GemStone IV Player Library (http://www.gs4.org) is all set to go with Spitfire coverage.

http://www.gs4.org/spitfire

Feel free to edit or add to the subsequent pages when the Spitfire arrives.

If that is too painful, help out by posting in this thread: http://www.gs4.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=XForum&file=viewthread &tid=62

Or this one too, but Information added won't be as timely!

Happy Merchanting!

Uh, so did anyone find anything interesting? This is just about the worst merchant I've been too. It's fluff, and ugly fluff at that. Overpriced, to boot.

Anyone who remembers the first and second Jugg will realize what garbage this thing is. I mean really, what's the point of selling badly described rusted items for 30k and calling it "Good".

I haven't found anything over 4x, no decent weapons or armor, and in general, nothing worth buying. I've spent 100k, and half of that was on wizard spell vials.

It is now crystal clear that Simu will never release anything of worth at a "free" merchant again. To get the good goods, you need to pay cold, hard, US currency and attend the good merchant events.

The paid events are worthless as well except for the access to live merchants.

I bought a ticket and got a whopping two alters perhaps because I could not be on 24/7. Yes, I am bitter.

Meh. Bandoliers are sort of neat, raffles/auctions/gambling are probably the main features, but won't see much of them. It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, the thing is here for over a month. Chill and watch the events roll.

Blazing247
02-01-2004, 05:19 PM
It's not even about alterations. I can pay 3 mil and get an alter scroll. It's about selling 80 different types of teas, and 400 different types of snot rags and pants. I've seen people quick-gen with better clothing than is for sale here. One merchant even raffled off a "sky blue sweater". What the fuck? If I won that, I'd set it on fire right in front of the person and piss all over it to put it out.

Simu needs to get the balance stick out of their collectively fat ass. A 5x item here or there, a merchant to add a level or two of weighting or padding; none of this would be detrimental to the game. Again- worst....merchant...ever....

Everyone I've talked to has found an item or two they like, but generally agree that this was a waste of time.

The thing that pisses me off the most is the fact that I cash hunted for the last two weeks to save up a shitload of coin, and for nothing!

I agree. It is a free event that SIMU is doing for everyone and not a select few. I found a few things I am having fun with and its a good event for those new to GS to get an idea of stuff too.

Okay you come here and complain that you don't like it. Okay thats personal opinion. But for one its ONE day into the event, have some patience you don't know what else is going to open up.

Not everyone is going to agree with you either, stop trying to force it down everyones throat. You are saying they suck okay fine to you they suck doesn't mean they will to everyone else.

Then you make statements like the above, granted Artha went out of the way but then to say you hate 80% of us? You don't know me to dislike me or not, or more than even half of us. Get over yourself if you think it matters what you think of me or anyone else here, you are giving YOURSELF to much credit in this . If you don't like most of the people here why do you come to post, unless its purposely to start shit ? :?:

If you don't like the merchant fine come here bitch let it all out. When you start insulting everyone else, take a step back and shut the hell up to put it bluntly.

(This is solely my opinion and not anyone elses so if you got a problem take it up with me not 80% of the boards you seem to hate, kthx.)

This whole event was worth it just for the Rodent shop. My happiest moment was probably seeing a big bunny backsack. I was giddy while looking through the hamster stuff too. Now I didn't buy any of it, but just seeing it felt good.

I honestly don't know how you can guage a merchant event when it hasn't been open more than about 16 hours. I'd wager only about half the shops have been opened.

Simu has stated they won't release 'high' end items in mass releases until breakage is back.

People must learn to chill about these 'fun' events. Try having fun?

You are all so cool!

Thanks!

Oh, let me reiterate the fact that I hate 90 percent of you people!

So you are complaining to a bunch of people you hate and expect us all to be in agreement with you?

Honestly, if you are hording coins expecting a merchant event to have uber items and anything over 4x, of course you are going to be disappointed. Not everyone has the same tastes. I've seen somethings here that would be perfect for one or more of my characters. One mans trash is a nother mans treasure. So you dont like the Sweater..big whoop, don't enter. I like it so I wanna win it. I dont like mouse skull items, but maybe someone else does.

If everything was nice and pretty then GS would be a medieval GAP commercial. Not everyone has to be dressed to the nines in this world. If someone wants to wear all orange, so be it. Just because you dont like it, doesnt mean its bad.

Im not saying you dont get to complain, fine go ahead. And yes people will argue that this event is great, as some will say its not or its okay. Directing your insults at 90% of us is just wrong. So you dont get sympathy from me. Go ahead and swear at me for saying that.

For all those keeping score at home, Artha started the whole go die thing. I think by hating 80%, the poster meant that he hated 80% of the people that post here regularly, at least that's what I take it to mean.
As far as the staff member comment goes, if the requirements for being on staff are quoting a Justin Timberlake song title in the same post that you get off topic and tell someone to die, then yeah, Artha meets the requirements with that post. Not that I much care about the whole thing, but let's face it, a little maturity in staff members would be nice.

Just because you disagree with someone's bitching (90% of the Gemstone posts here do involve bitching) doesn't mean you have to tell someone to drown themselves, then act shocked when they tell you they hope you get aids and die. It's not like he said anything insulting to anyone that posts here unless your a Simu staffer that worked really hard on this merchant event, which I agree, is mostly fluff and I personally don't care about. But I wasn't expecting any heavily crit weighted items so I'm not disappointed.

Just a few responses, and a comment about the Spitfire.

Firstly, I didn't begin the insult slinging. I came here and bitched about the Spitfire cause, frankly, I think it sucks bigtime. As usual on these boards, my opinion was trashed and I was told to "Cry me a river, then drown yourself in it, thanks. "

This is by a staff member of these boards. Way to set an example.
It didn't really bother me, but I do still hope you get AIDS, and please pass it on to Bob so we can cleanse the human race.

<Makes people wonder why you return to a place where you hate most of the people. >

Because there are a few people here who are generally helpful and pretty decent folk. I hate most every person in the game, but I play because I enjoy it and nobody has bought my cleric yet.

<Then you make statements like the above, granted Artha went out of the way but then to say you hate 80% of us?>

You are right, I don't know you, and I don't hate you. I can compile a list of people I hate on this board and why, but I figured to save time I would say a percentage that is right around the mark.

<If you don't like the merchant fine come here bitch let it all out. When you start insulting everyone else, take a step back and shut the hell up to put it bluntly. >

If you look at the order of events, this is exactly what I did. I bitched about it, and then someone told me to drown myself. This is when I responded in kind.

<Whoever just told Artha to get AIDS... first of all you piece of shit you sound like Rorac.>

Don't know who Rorac is, but if he told Artha to get AIDS, he's A-OK in my book.

<Your an idiot if all you think of events is a merchant thingy. Its about ROLEPLAY and doing something different too.>

No, not for me. I don't roleplay anymore. Too many idiots who don't know how to roleplay back. This game is about gaining items and silvers. Doesn't make me an idiot because I gain different enjoyment out of it than you.

<I hope you don't get AIDS, but still die. >

See it's this kind of stuff that only makes me half hate Bob. He's half funny, and half annoying. Oh well.

<Rorac once said that exact thing to me "Get AIDS and die.">

I'll be happy to help.

I will not respond to any further arguments about this. Suffice to say I think the Shitfire sucks. Some of you think it's good. That's great, we differ in opinion. Argue that instead of insulting me and we will be okay.

To keep on topic, it's annoying to have a merchant tell you to go buy some wares and come back and then you find out it's a room-order merchant and you're on the bottom half instead of number five.

Course, if your bothered by the merchants, you could just keep it too yourself insted of bitching about it the first day it opened.

Then again, your interested in weapons and armor right? I think your just not looking hard enough. I've found 4 weighted weapons so far..all 4 being 4x. Also some 4x lightened platemail. So, I know there is good stuff there.

If this stuff is not of your liking, what DO you expect?

When you say "ANY" merchant event, you are, of course, talking about any merchant in the last few years. For all that say Fawn disneyfied the game, Melissa might as well be the daughter of Walt himself.

You must not be remembering the real merchant events. Yes kiddies, there used to be merchants who sold good stuff. Katana's off the rack, 7x shields off the rack, padded armor off the rack, and even an Annealer who turned out 8x blessable weapons like they were lollipops. The problem is, you've just all become accustomed to junk merchants over the years that fill this game with nothing but scripted pieces of SHIT that annoy us in populated areas.

Yes, one mans junk is anothers treasure. For me, this is all junk. I'm glad you like it, I don't. Merchants aren't about RPing, they never have been, and they never will be. No offense because I know there are people that like to get uber weapons and such, but if you feel you need such high end stuff to hunt, then something's wrong, and it aint't the merchant.

I think all people are saying is to have patience since it's only the fourth day of a month long event. Maybe they'll put out more interesting items. Maybe there will be more merchants.

Having so many high end enchanted items takes away from the uniqueness of them. It's not needed. It's supposed to be rare not common.

Right, so you need 7X + items for a merchant to be good? Grow the fuck up man. I've been in the game a long time too, I don't own anything over 5x (that I use..I have a few 7x items..but they are just for me to sell) and you don't hear me bitching about the lack of items. Sheesh man. Honestly, whats the need for a 7x item? I have them because I enchanted them up myself..and I'm selling them..why? Because I do just fine with my 4x items.

You should have know YEARS ago that uber shit would not be released hardly ever, simply because they stopped the "God Auctions". That right there is the biggest sign ever. Should have quit then, think of all the heartache and wasted time you coulda saved?

I'm personally really sick of all the 4x junk at merchants. I also don't agree with the concept of breakage being reintroduced, and even if it is, it will be poorly implemented and not cause any redistribution of wealth OR get money out of the system. Ninmah left with 100 mil after 1 hour of dragon bones. THAT is how you get money out of the game.

Edaarin
02-03-2004, 06:19 PM
You also have to keep in mind that the number of coins is continually increasing every day. 100m isn't even close to the amount that gets pumped out a week. however, having perma DB would make rich people richer, so I could see why they would never do that.

Blazing247

<Right, so you need 7X + items for a merchant to be good? >

No no, you misunderstand me. I don't really care about high enchants, or high weighting, or uber weapons. It would be NICE to have at least one or two 5x weapons. Sure, make them 800k for all I care, I have the coin. It would be nice to have some 4x padded hauberk or padded brigandine at this merchant. Again, charge a lot for it, I'd pay 3 or 4 million. What I'm saying is, there is NO point in selling a 4x weapon that is just a slightly differently described one than is available in Tykel's. There is no point in selling rust-stained armors.

There are a few nice items here and there at the merchant, the blood-stained boots are the best example. They are nicely scripted, and are something you can't get at the boutique. They aren't uber powerful, but they took TIME to create. Not just altering the colors on some normal clothes. Really, I think you are misunderstanding where I'm coming from. It's not the uber items I care about, it's the fact that there is nothing at this merchant that can't be had at any store in the game with a slightly different description.

If it appeared to me that any amount of time was put into the normal wares, I wouldn't have bitched in the first place. The fact is, most of it is very bland.

Blazing247
02-03-2004, 06:37 PM
And yes, SP, Dragon Bones is a great way to redistribute the wealth in this game. Breakage is bullshit, they should can the whole thing. Either go all the way and take items COMPLETELY out of the game, or don't waste the time.

<shrugs> I was growing tired of all the pretty items all the time, and since I don't play a pretty character, I like to see all the stained, bloody, wrinkled, rotten looking items because it adds more realism to the game. Not everything is pristine in its appearance and I look forward to these type of merchants with rugged appearances.

Ah well, you can't please everyone, and I can see why you would be upset with the merchant. But I didn't see the items as those you could get anywhere. Only at these merchants do I end up finding something that would suit my characters.

By the way, if this was the post you would have started out with, the whole thread would have had a different turn. No, can't ask you to be proper all the time, but this one told a lot more than "this merchant sucks". ;)

Very mature post.

It amuses me to no end that half the people on this thread hurl insults left and right and someone fights back and it's like, "OMFG I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SAID GET AIDS AND DIE. OMFG. YOU STARTED IT!" So what if someone says the boat sucks? You didn't put work into designing it so why do you have to come up with clever panty posts instead of posting something intelligent?

Yeah, I agree with Blazing. I took a note with me worth several mil and spent maybe 500K on items because I thought most of it was just useless fluff. So you can add me to the list of people you crucify for not pissing my pants with excitement over the great Spitfire. I'm not asking for 10x items off the shelf. Some 5x items or some things with decent padding would be nice. And for the all those people that are talking about how they haven't sold that stuff in years from a merchant, they haven't had a free merchant this big in years either.

The "get aids and die" comment was a response. It's like saying, well, you can insult people on these grounds, but not on these. That just leads to a slippery slope which is a waste of time.

And then you turn around and call people "children" for not liking an event right after you insult them in a childish manner. There's 1000 different ways to say I disagree or you're wrong without resulting to petty insults. But if you're going to result to insults, don't get mad when someone crosses an imaginary line.

The map isn't entirely accurate, I think it lists stairs where they don't exist in some places. Some of the connections are also missing. However if you tend to notice layouts, you can connect the dots.

There are some sections of the Spitfire that are just jumbles of doors and oddly placed rooms, the coach house comes to mind. After milling through it a few times, it gets tough to remember whether you want the blue door, slanted door, green door, or another door to go in and out.

Ok, So you all want decent padded items? Has it struck you yet that padding is HARDER and more expensive to find then enchants? The GM's have said over and over that padding is going to tone down. Padding is to be a REALLY nice item, not every day item that every tom, dick, and harry has. FGB was one of the biggest mistakes the GM's ever made, and they are trying to make sure it never happens again.

Padding, and weighting to a lesser extent should be slowly widdled down to a very low ammount in the game. Yes, this will drive the prices up, but you know what? Good. I personally feel that seeing Wizards and Semi's running around in 4 or 5x, Heavy cript padded Hauberk or plate is just insaine. It distroys the whole aspect of the idea. Padding is ment for pures who don't have redux yet. Thats the point. Once you get redux, you really don't NEED the padding anymore, though you can bet every square with padded plate/hauberk is wearing it still.

StrayRogue

You're a bit messed up. Damage padding is for Squares with or without redux. Crit padding when you have redux is a little pointless, due to the Crit Devisor of plate, and redux. Pures can never ever get redux. Crit padding is more designed for the lighter armors, simply to reduce the severity of a hit, and to stop those one hit kills.

So..what your saying is the mass ammounts of crit padded full plate and metal breast plate I've seen is made for Pures? Care to explain?

StrayRogue

No. Crit padding isn't exactly useless. You can still get killed via crits in plate, however. And remember, only now are we in a system where attrition, blood loss, is causing most deaths (supposedly). Therefore damage padding is much more useful. But even back then, as I said, damage padding was more wanted on plate. Why do you think Ardwen's plate is valued at over 500 mil or whatever? Simply because he's nearly unkillable in it.

Crit padding can help them however. One think most Squares can rely on is blood. They can absorb alot of hps worth of damage due to crit devisor, and redux. However a crit can kill them instantly, hence why it also is a benefit. Yet damage padding is much more treasured among squares, I would say.

Plus, padding has been around since before Redux. I'd wager a good proportion of items were released before redux was around.

Pures are the spell casters. They cannot get redux. They cannot wear heavy armors. The era of sorcerers in brig ended with the GP armor changes, and as far as I know only one sorcerer was anywhere close to wearing plate (and he did, I believe), and that was Malok.

[Edited on 5-2-04 by StrayRogue]

StrayRogue
02-05-2004, 01:10 AM
Now, sorcerers don't need full plate. They aren't supposed to be getting hit at all. However, when they get hit, they are going to take alot of hp damage, therefore they are easier to crit and easier to kill. Damage padding wouldn't offset this, as you'd just get crit deaths doing 1 hp of damage. Crit padding however, lowers the severity of the blow so that you may take a harsh hp loss, but not that death crit.

Edaarin
02-05-2004, 01:11 AM
I would imagine that a lot of the plate class armor with heavy or more crit padding that you see around was made before redux was implemented.

From my experience with Gemstone boards, people are usually quick to rip apart something game or GM related. So when people defend events and merchants, you have to really think it over and wonder if it's really the "in" opinion. Yes people are quick to bash something. This time people disagreed with the bashing of an event, and it seems to be a majority feeling. In Bushese, the majority will usually outnumber the minority. Going against the minority ruling is usually going to cause animosity, and that holds true for anything that is being judged by opinions.

I'd also like to say that thanks to this event, my characters are all broke. :grr:

If Artha hadn't told anyone to go die in the first place, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Disagree with a post all you want. that doesn't mean you have to result to personal attacks that aren't even on topic. From a noob, I would expect such behavior; from a staff member, it's just ridiculous.

And I gotta say, Electrawn has shown great restraint over the hijacking of this thread.

Whatever people think of the Spitfire, Electrawn's site is a huge help to those of us who enjoy it.

So thankyou!

When you come to a board to post your opinion, its perfectly sane to expect opposing opinions to be posted and your motives questioned. Thats the nature of boards. To insult the people on the boards because your opinions were opposed and just what did you expect? If someone came to your door and you didn't agree with them and you said "I hope you get aids and die" and "I hate everyone one in this neighborhood" What would you expect from your neighborhood? Perhaps that perfect smile.

What I find ridiculous is that the poster took the personal attack, warranted or not, turned it around to attack the entire board.

Damn, she beat me to it.

Why is it that 90% of the boards got bunched into the comment of one person?

I did it once, got called on it and realized my mistake, when I was a fresh new poster here.

It's not right, I just didn't know 'board' protocal or anything, I had never really been a message board member before.

But when I said 'you all' I honestly meant it as those that were participating in the thread, here she actually says the whole boards, so I don't know.

Text goes only so far. :(

AHA. I knew it. There should be little girl/boy icons next to our names so we know that when this occurs it is an intentional slight and not accidental. CrystalTears?

Those fishbowls are so cute. :socool:

What scripts have people found so far?

And how often should I feed my fish?

The fishbowls have toss, tap, poke, and turn.

You can also wear them.

Where are those double crossbows i have seen being sold at? Saw them once, haven't been able to find them since, anyone know?

Does anyone know if the goats are just regular toys that you can hug and smooch, or does it do something else? When you look at them they look mechanic so I was just curious.

They're auctioned. One went for 8 million, the other went for 36...so I hope you have some money.

Did he auction any light crossbows yet?

I wasn't able to get anything out of them off the shelf besides a normal hug verb. If Gabhar does his custom work on them 'train' them and etch a name onto their collars then they have quite a few more scripts.

Supposedly he'll be making super trainees or something during the big weekend, or whenever he shows back up.

So far all the ones auctioned off have been heavy crossbows.

The first went for 7 million.
Second for 7.25 million.
Third for 8 million
I wasn't there for the rest however the last one one, as Artha said went for 36 million.

I heard some griping on the boards, so he may end up hoarding the rest until the 'big' weekend.

I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but sometimes text is mindboggling:

Vathios started the raffle at 9:55. There was an opening bid og 135 million from Tayler. Someone else bid 100 million after the opening bid, but it was disregarded since it was a low bid. By 9:57 the auction was over with Tayler taking the weapon for 135 million.

Electrawn says: 135 million x $15 a million (current market value at discount) = $2,025. Make of it what you will.

>get goat
You remove a spotted brown goat from in your black leather coat.
>pull goat
You yank on your brown goat's tail and it bleats in surprise.
>push goat
That would accomplish nothing.
>wave goat
You wave your brown goat around.
>hug goat
You squeeze your brown goat tightly and its eyes bulge out alarmingly.
>rub goat
You rub your brown goat between its ears and a look of caprine bliss crosses its face.
>pet goat
You gently pat your brown goat on the head and it nuzzles your hand affectionately.
>smooch goat
You give your brown goat a big smooch and receive a mouthful of fur in return.
>poke goat
You poke the tiny bell attached to your brown goat's collar. It jingles softly.
>l goat
Covered with real goat hide, this toy goat has an almost lifelike appearance, complete with floppy ears, warm brown eyes and a stubby little tail. Only the subtle glint of metal beneath the hide betrays the fact that this goat is mechanical in nature rather than biological. A wide leather collar with a small copper bell surrounds the animal's neck. Tooled upon the collar is the name, "Dusty."

Don't know what else to try but MY goat is special. Heh.

No no no, he is special, and I do not mean in the mentally challenged way. Take it back, he is unique! Heh. What is your goats name anyway? Maybe we can breed them and sell the offspring.
