View Full Version : Misspelled words
Was just curious if anyone notices words (here or other places) that people misspell over and over. I'm not talking about one person. I'm talking about general misspellings. The two I notice that are spelled incorrectly a lot are weird and ridiculous.
By no means am I great at spelling and grammar. I just see these two words misspelled over and over so many times. Anyone else have one they see a lot?
Vesi hoping everything is spelled correctly in this post.

I refuse to place a period after the parenthesis (I just don't like the way it looks [at all.])

I do notice some words, but more often than not I just notice the repetitive misuse of there, they're, and their.
And your. Especially your.
I notice. I was an English major. However, I mangle grammar all the time and I have forced myself not to care, because that's just how my peers communicate and I don't want to sound like a douche in the name of proper usage.
The only things that really bother me.. hm. Misuse of words, as though the speaker doesn't actually know what a word means but wants to use it anyway. Also, the way people replace "well" with "good." For example, "Your child did really good at daycare today." NO. No. The child did well, fuckers.
Edited to add: I also cringe about your/you're and they're/their/there.

Since my own spelling is a bit questionable sometimes I cannot say with any certainty that I catch other people's misspellings all the time. There are a few that I see often though, like 'definate'. There is no 'a' in that word people!

God I spell definite wrong all the time. Just worked its way into my brain like that, and every time I type it I have to delete and fix.
I only spell jewelry...jewelery. With an extra "e". Must be cause it just sounds and looks better to me.
I HATE those chat lingo abbreviations. Unless I'm being completely sarcastic, it just kills me. Especially when my friends text my phone, and they're all, "lol, r u coming 2 class now?" DIE PLS.

I spell hierarchy incorrect all the time. So much so, that I honestly cannot remember if it's hierarchy or heirarchy, because I'm always changing it. FUCK YOU ORG CHARTS! I actually programmed my Blackberry to spell it correctly when I misspell it.

I know someone that says "are" instead of "or". Like "This are that."
I know another that says "minus well" instead of "might as well".
Another that says "Are't" instead of "ought", as in "You are't to kill yourself today."
Another that says "sale" instead of "sell", as in "I'm gonna sale my car."
Bad spellers don't really bother me, except the ones that choose continue to spell like an idiot after being corrected numerous times. They need to just end themselves. Unless they're a grown adult and spell worse than 2nd grader. There's no hope for people that stupid and they should be sterilized and/or put to death no matter what.
"Hey asshole, it's MIGHT AS WELL, not MINUS WELL!"
"Oh, well I'm used to being stupid so I minus well just keep at it."

That is how the word is spelled though. Or are you saying you hate when people leave off the first 'r'?

I cringe everytime I hear someone say it's a "MUTE" point. The term is moot motherfuckers, moot.

Srsly?
Please tell me it's your recently mentioned wife whose body will not be turning up in the middle of the Mojave desert. You could say something really awesome before hitting her over the head with the shovel you use to bury her, like, "WHO'S MUTE NOW?" Maybe like, "I guess continuing this relationship is now moot."
Or, like, "Die."
Yeah. Abject boredom.

The one that bothers me the most is when people use "loose" when they mean "lose." They tend to do it over and over again, too, demonstrating that it's not just a typo.

I'm so guilty of this. :(
How about the rouge/rogue thing? I've had people fight with me about it, when it's pointed out to them that no, they are not artificial reddish pigmentation. They're not even pronounced the same so you can't get away with it that way in GS.

The wizard did about 15,000 dps, and as an attempt to hijack the thread, Everquest has gotten out of hand.

People who substitute single letters or numbers for entire words always pissed me off.
Lol dude u no in AOL chat nemore kk? thx.
There's another one that irritates me "nemore".
For fuck's sake, the E key is 2 keys away from the A key, and you have to push the N still and guess what? The Y is also 2 keys away from the N. Is it THAT FUCKING DIFFICULT to use ANY?
Also, if you can't figure out the difference between you're and your, just fucking say 'yer' and pretend you're RPing an accent, you'll look less stupid in the longrun.

It's I couldn't care less.
If you can care less, why don't you?

There is a comedy club I pass every day that has a neon sign that tells what comic will be performing each evening. Every day it says "So-and-So performing TONITE!"
It's "tonight", fuckers.
