View Full Version : Started watching "Lost"

So I have some free time on my hands this Thanksgiving weekend and some friends recommended I start watching ABC's Lost. They have all the episodes from the first 4 seasons online. So I thought what the hell. Lets check it out.
I am very disappointed. I am 6 episodes in and the show just moves so slowly. It reveals a tiny bit of information at a time with no real substance and then just tries to leave every advertismenet break with a cliff hanger so you have to watch more. It just seems to be dragging.
If I was watching this from the pilot episode, this would NOT be on my must watch list for the week. I bet after the 6 episodes I have seen, it would have been removed from my DVR list.
Please someone tell me it gets better.

Not really :/
You should be watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia instead, if you already don't.

I love Lost. It has something most TV shows don't have: Depth.

What the fuck kind of depth does Lost have? The writers don't even know what they wanna do with the show, they just wing it.
I watch Lost JUST to see what kind of crazy things they stick in there.
"Hey, let's introduce a character...then kill them!!!"
"Oh...let's introduce TWO characters and kill them both!"
"Um...let's have some new characters crash on the island, and then kill them!"
"Let's have a BOATLOAD of people crash on the island, and kill them all!!!!"
"Let's show them who DOESN'T die, and then kill them anyway!!!! AND let's bring back everyone who does die!!!!"
"Let's throw in a dinosaur!"
Um...no, the show doesn't get any better. The first season was the best. Just stop now.

The show did get ridiculous for a while, but the last season was the best. As more people die the plot gets tighter. the writers have a clear direction now, it should be great until the end.

About 11 episodes in now. Still frustrated with the show. I will give them credit for making me want to keep watching so I can get answers the plot lines they just give you a nibble of. For instance, the cable running into the water - what the hell is that?!?!
Don't answer I want to watch and find out, but I don't at the same time.
I'm waiting for the cliffs notes version.
HAHA. Found it!

There was an HBO or showtime series that was exceptional, and everyone should watch it; The Lost Room... just well written and done.

Not having a direction can be a good thing, at least for awhile. It allows you to lay a foundation, and slowly layer it up. You think the characters who've died are gone from the show? I call BS.
Furthermore, it not being driven relentlessly in some direction is further indication that: a) it's not driven by the 10 second attention span of most TV watchers, and b) it can organically grow as it should.

Yeah this was really good. My buddy told me about this and I checked it out. I'm pretty sure the reason I hadn't heard of it before was that is a SciFi channel series, but I could be wrong.

yeah, maybe it was scifi.. no idea, one of my hot hippy chick friends' dad told me about it when I was visiting her, so I checked it out..
did an awesome job on it, and was nice to see the whole story played out in a certain number of shows (14 or something), instead of running on for 10 seasons

I tried watching Lost and the first three episodes into Season 1 I just stopped.
It didn't make sense and I just plain didn't find it to be entertaining.

Lost is definitely my favorite show.
Also, don't concern yourself too much about the stuff like who dies next, or monsters and what not. I never felt that the show was about that. Those aspects are more like the distractions a magician employs to effectively deliver the prestige; they keep you entertained and make the show more lively, but it is not the focus. Think of it more as a show about many ideologies clashing against each other in a foreign land, the main two being science vs. faith. Amongst the many characters on the show, who would you identify with or sympathize with most?

From what I've scene from the interviews with the writers when it is all said and done at the end of season 6 you'll be able to refer to the scene in season 1 where they find "Adam and Eve" and it will be proof that they've had the whole thing planned.
As far as depth goes, www.lostpedia.com. There are some people that are way too smart, have way too much time on their hands, and are entirely too into the show. Either way, it's fucking nutso all the hidden shit they've put into the show that these folks have found.

Since I would do both Sawyer and Jack, probably Kate.
The story I enjoy the most is Hurley's. Those numbers just keep catching up with him. Best scene of last season was when he gets in the car with his stepfather (Cheech Marin in a great cameo) and the numbers are in the mileage.

Um, yeah. I fully agree with that statement. ;)
I think LOST is a well done TV show. I like the concept of it and how each episode focuses on someone's back story and past. It is a truly unique show. The actors are pretty decent as well. I am a season behind though. Season 3 kind of started dragging for me so I was less inclined to watch the next year. During season 4 I was working nights and had no motivation to watch them online. I'm debating if I'll get caught up in time for season 5 or not.
I am glad that they put a cap on how many seasons they plan on doing. I'm definitely ready for them to get off the island or figure out wtf is going on and they still have 2 or 3 more seasons left.
Perhaps I'll catch up just for closure, but it's not a show that I MUST watch anymore.

Love Lost - I think I will really love it when all the little things that don't make sense are brought together. I honestly believe the writers know what they're doing (especially since they've set the "end" of the show now) and will do some amazing things with it.
Maybe I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I'm 4 years in now and I guess my Locke is showing, cause I've got faith in the writers.
Also, mustard guy in Meth's avatar kind of looks like Hurley.

I'd never watched it until my husband bought the first 3 seasons on dvd, now I'm just waiting for more complete seasons to show up for Christmas(I hope, I haven't even checked if they were out).

Locke is a fucking crazy ass zealot. If you identify with his "faith" aspect - Rose is like that, but not to the extent Locke would ever take it.
Although I understand what your saying - Jack's irrational rationalism irks the fuck out of me.

I am only in the middle of season 2. I do like it more than season 1. That doesn't mean that when I am done with season 4 I won't have decided 2 was terrible.
I hypothosize that I don't like season 1 that much is because I was able to power through it. I think some of the "awesomeness" would have come from the anticipation of having to see what happens next week.

Mr. Ecko is the man and I liked season 2 more than 1 as well. I didn't like learning about the "tailies" as much and wanted the main storyline to advance. I thought how they introduced Ben was pretty damn awesome.

I watched the season 3 finale like umpteen times. Highlight for spoiler below...
I thought it was genius how the writers led you to believe that everything in the finale was the usual format of island story/flashback when it was all a flashforward. I thought for sure that Jack was calling his ex wife the whole time and I got the chills when it was Kate that showed up to meet him.

So, the premiere was crazy. So many plotlines all at once, and it's difficult now that there's two timelines (now and three years ago) and three locales (the island, the real world, and Desmond's quasi-existence inbetween as a nowhere man).
After the long hiatus in season 3, the show seemed to find it's direction again. Season 1 was definitely the bait, and Season 2 was not too shabby, but definitely left more holes unfilled than might be desired. The first part of Season 3 was just not that good, and the plot was all over the place (which is somewhat relative, because the plot usually dances around in each episode). I agree that one there was an established end-date for the show, the plot line begin to move forward again.
I made the mistake after the second season of always reading into the mythology of LOST, which some places (DarkUFO) typically tie in with plot spoilers. There were several big reveals in Season 3 and 4 that I already knew about from reading about future episode casting, mainly. I now only read the weekly recaps on entertainmentweekly.com. Their writer dives into just enough mythology to make some of the Huh? moments of the show clearer. There are also easter eggs revealed after each week on buddytv.com that are pretty cool. Yeah.
