View Full Version : How do I check my monthly bandwidth used?

So, with Comcast limiting my bandwidth to 250GB a month, I am curious, is there an easy way to check how much I've used?

I know many people find it hard to believe, but I know I'm coming close each passing month to it. I've checked my router, but it doesn't store the amount used like I thought it did.

Try: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemeter/

Won't help if you're trying to track multiple PC's behind your router, though.

About the only way to do that is if your router supports SNMP, you can probably poll it to track bandwidth in a way that's not accessible via the web interface. But that's a lot more work.

I think Comcast is supposed to email you if you're nearing the 250gb, aren't they?

They will only email my @comcast.com email, which I don't use.

According to them, I was at 242GBs last month. So I guess no more movie downloads from Blockbuster that I have credits for.

I'll try that link though, thanks!

That's a big problem I have with cable providers limiting bandwidth. The cable modem knows, but they block it so we can't see. And we have to take their word for it that we're using what they say we are.

With Power and Gas and Water, there's a meter at our homes that we can check if we want to and verifiy it ourselves.

But not with internet.

I wouldn't mind a router maker coming out with a bandwidth meter... it could know too pretty easily.

Switch to DSL.

I'm debating it man. I surf YouTube a lot, as Drew knows. And I upload lots of stuff. But the DSL provider here is AT&T and I have yet to hear anything good about them.

Whats the difference between the three listed downloads?

i386, i386 with icons, and platform independant...?

Platform independent is the source code, which I doubt you want. I would guess you would use the icons, so download that one if you want to try this.

Platform independent just means it's the source, in case you want to build it yourself. (in this case, it's C#, so it isn't really platform independant.)

Just download the i386 with icons. It's just [Intel x86] Windows binaries. I haven't a clue what 'with icons' gives you, but you might as well use that.
