View Full Version : Twilight: The Movie
After all the damn fuss I heard about this book from a lot of girls and a few select men, I decided to pick these books up and they're surprisingly good. I still haven't read all throughout the fourth book, mostly because I've been holding it off. I hate it when I don't have more books to read. :(
A couple of my girlfriends from college who are in love with the book, and my best friend who just got into the book, decided that we should all go to the midnight premier on Thursday. I wonder though, if there is going to be a big ass line formed around 8 at night, or even earlier. Therefore me and Amanda are heading there after class, grabbing a bite at Chipotle, then the movies and hang around. Is it lame that I've had these advanced tickets for 2 weeks already? Heh!
Anyways....anyone else going to see it? Midnight premier day or later?

I admit I was curious about the books since I heard they were so good and stuff. I picked up the first one last night and I'm two thirds done reading it. If I was ten years younger I'd have enjoyed it more I think. But... it's not bad. Not the best thing I've ever read but maybe once I'm finished my opinion will change a little so we'll see.

Loved this series. Yeah, it was very highschool with the whole "I can't live without you" crap...but I'm hoping the movie does away with most of that since its thoughts in their head, or how the character is feeling.
The trailer looks AMAZING and while I was skeptical at first about their choice of actors, I think now that they're well-suited for the parts. Especially Edward. He looks delicious. And I don't feel *too* bad saying that since he's older than I originally thought. :D

I only read the first two books. The plot was pretty predictable and I agree with Shari that the whole teenage, high school hormonal angst crap was a bit heavy handed. But I've read worse books. The movie trailer doesn't look like complete crap but I'll probably wait for it to come out on DVD.

Girl moves.
Girl meets hot mysterious guy.

On another note, this movie reminds me of the bisexual vampire porn a female friend of mine wrote when she was starting college.

I've heard a LOT of hype about this series, and I love vampires, but for some reason I can't get myself enthused to read the books or even see the movie. I'm sure eventually I'll check it out, I suppose.
I thought the first three books were awesome. I was not as thrilled with the 4th book, but it wasn't bad in any way. I know it was a vampire book and all, but I just found some of the stuff a little too far-fetched. I also get irritated when people change vampire lore to suite their own purposes. ;)
I'm looking forward to the movie, cause the previews looked impressive. I'm just hoping the movie doesn't super suck and the best parts of it were in the preview. Which happens a lot.
I like the Anita Blake series way better. It's just more grown up, you know? And the vampire lore doesn't randomly change to suddenly let them walk around in sunlight.

Harry Potter is my teeny bopper limit, but the Twilight trailor looks solid.
I'll stick to True Blood, which I like so much I plan to start reading the Sookie Stackhouse series when this season ends. I don't have any room for disappointment over editing and technical changes made to suit the needs of the television show.

Man, True Blood is awesome. I'm super excited about the season finale this weekend. You won't be disappointed with the books. The show, for the most part, sticks pretty close to the books, changing only a few things to help keep the story moving along. :) They're pretty great.
I won't lie, though. :( I didn't like them when I first started reading them but only because of Charlaine Harris' writing style. The story and characters were strong enough and intriguing enough for me to stick to the books, though, and once I got to books six or so, I gave up on hating her style and just enjoyed the story.

Authors have been doing this for centuries. I'm fairly certain that whatever vampire lore you like best was a changed version of earlier lore.
The story and characters were strong enough and intriguing enough for me to stick to the books, though, and once I got to books six or so, I gave up on hating her style and just enjoyed the story. That's what did it for me when it came to the television series. I love the character development, engrossing story line (I was hooked after the first show), the plots, the twists, the turns, and alas I love me some Sookie and Bill. Anna Paquin is so freaking great in that role. I was surprised by how much I like the series, but it grows on you fast and I'm looking forward to the books.
I don't know anything about true blood except that it got Anna Paquin naked for us all. Thank you true blood (and also thank you for getting the other hotter but less famous chick naked too).

Well, I'm currently typing this from my sidekick.
Me and my friend Amanda got to the movies around 3, after english, and oh my god there are already like 115 people in line. The line itself forming to the side of the theatre.
So me and my friend stay in line, since 3:00 pm. Few hours passed and a ton more people showing up, and it was around 8 pm, and the line was 3 blocks long. Suddenly, our place in line didn't seem so awful.
Talked to some of the people that were first in line, said they got here at 3:00. My god.
So, 10 hours of waiting for this movie. Only thing that kept me sane was my blue slurpies.
Ill probably never do this again. Well..until the next movie comes out. Heh!

I have Thursdays off, mostly spent with my nose in a book.
So, that said, I read the first three books of the series today (happy for my eyes sake that I don't possess the fourth). Started around noon.
I'll give the author this: it's a compelling read, the characters are well-developed (as per the confines of the genre), and the plots are believable. The latter is especially important for such a fantastical subject matter.
There are certain points where the author's characterization of the male leading roles was stunted. However, I can attribute that away from a lack in the author's wordcraft toward a necessity for the genre. I hope it's not a lack of insight on her part. She did get it right in the third book, though, with the machinations of the two interests.
That said, I appreciated the lack of description as to Cullen's thoughts. It allowed me to identify with the character far better than any description could give justice. I guess I just appreciated how manipulative he had to be- la donna e mobile, and Edward certainly played his cards right.

Well. I'll confess that along with Zuie...I stood in line. I wasn't planning on going opening night (mostly because no one wanted to go) but my sister texted me yesterday morning and told me she couldn't wait til her boyfriend got in town (lucky guy, she spared him really) to go see it and asked if I wanted to stand in line.
So, I got to the mall about 6pm to return some clothes and took a drive-by past the movie theater and was stunned when I saw a line of about 200 people already. I was planning on getting in line at 9. Called my sister in a panic, and got food and a coffee before she arrived 15 minutes later to join the line with me. 2 of her friends showed up as well.
Let me explain to you the surprisingly well-controlled chaos: 1500 girls and about....10 guys in a line that wrapped the building. People camped out with chairs, blankets, pillows, etc. 90% of them wearing Twilight swag. People would drive by in their cars screaming "I LOVE EDWARD"...wtf? Teenagers girls are the craziest of females, I've decided. I'm glad I've grown past it.
Aaanyway, they let us in at 8pm and girls were screaming as the majority of the line stood up from their "camps" as we went it, and went sprinting for the theater.
Every hour thereafter, someone would stand up and scream how much time was left until it showed...as if we weren't already checking our clocks every 5 minutes and more screaming ensued. I swear to Christ that if there weren't so goddamned many of them I would have started hitting people. But anyway, movie starts, more chaos and screaming ensues.
Things simmer down until Edward makes his debut and all hell breaks loose.
Anyway....I have mixed feelings about the movie. I've never waited in line for one and was mildly disappointed with the chemistry between Kristen and Rob. As with all book-to-movie, they cut a lot of shit out I was really hoping to see which was also annoying. Some of the imagery was AMAZING...if Forks is really that beautiful I'd definitely consider a vacation up there, absolutely stunning.
Towards the end Kristen and Rob got their shit together acting wise. I was really impressed with the portrayal of the Cullen family. Alice is adorable, and strangely, Rosalie is still my favorite of the family because she's such a bitch. Nikki Reed does a good job of playing the way I imagine her in the book.
All in all, am I glad that I waited in line? :( Yes. Will I do it for the rest of the series? Most likely. But I do hope that Kristen and Rob can fall into their character more without it seeming so...uncomfortable.
I'd like to add: that the scene where they kiss is most likely the SEXIEST movie scene I've ever witnessed. Maybe because I knew how long it took to lead up to that point in the book. And they don't even have sex! I am telling you that theater raised 10 degrees in the span of a minute due to raging hormones, it was insane. But yeah...the sexual tension between the two of them towards the end of the movie was incredible.

To be honest, all I know of Twilight I've read here. I had never heard of it before Monday or Tuesday of this week.
Hah I love watching True Blood, it's the first television I've really watched in over a decade. I had no idea there were books, do they follow the story line of the show? I was thinking I might not want to wreck any future surprises even though I do damnit!!
Watched a trailer for Twilight, not sure I want to see that one until it hits the el cheapo movie theater here. From what I know, the show follows the books to a fair extent, but the plots are basically all there. I heard the show is actually a bit darker than the books, which is a bonus in my opinion. I know for sure that Tara and Lafeyette's characters are different than the book series portrayal. For example, Lafeyette is a minor character in the book, Tara doesn't even come into play until the second or third book, and they aren't related. I can look past all that though because I'm hooked and looking forward to next season already.
Ugh. Okay. So I saw it last night. I was dragged. I hadn't even heard of the books until a couple of weeks ago. I read all four in a single day because.. well.. I was sick and had nothing better to do. The books are good for what they are. Teenybopper romance. I secretly like romance but I dislike it when it's the entire plot. Also, I like Jacob more. Bella should be with Edward, of course, because that's who she is but if it were me... Jacob all the way.
They made an effort to make the movie more penis accessible by bringing in the bad vampires much earlier, so there was a tiny, forgettable mystery weaving through the intensely awkward dialogue. SO AWKWARD. I was totally Flinchy McFlincherson the whole movie.
It was indeed acted badly to nearly the end but I blame it less on the actors and more on the screenplay. The author wouldn't let them take out some of the cheesier lines, saying some girls had those lines tattooed on their ankles and it would be a mistake to alienate them. She was right, to a point. This movie was all about the fans. But it made it hard for the actors to deliver a believable performance. Who the fuck says "And so the lion fell in love with the lamb"? Without feeling like a pretentious blowhard, I mean.
The pacing was awful and the entire thing was filled to the brim with in-jokes and in-moments that must seem odd to those who didn't read the books. They left it on a sequel set-up note and if there's not a second movie, it'll make this one look even worse for failing to provide a satisfactory wrap. This is definitely not a stand-alone movie, either from the books or other potential future movies.
All that said, my vagina liked it. =\
Hm.
Well after having about 1 hour of sleep, I think I can review it now.
I think it was actually really good. I mean, some of the acting in the beginning could of been way better, like Bella not completely staring down Edward since that is the complete opposite of what she did in the book. Jasper's face..was hilarriouus. It really did make me laugh. Rosalie was as expected, I loved it. Only thing that stood out so much to me was how different the Cullen's house was. I imagine a big white victorian house, not some uber modern glass house.
Nonetheless, I really enjoyed it and it's been told that they're expecting to make films for each book. I don't know if I'll stand in line for the premier again, but I will go see it.
Can't wait for Midnight Sun. :D
(Oh and, I'm going again today with my younger sister since she couldn't stay up so late last night. Goodness!)

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES TWILIGHT SEQUEL - NEW MOON
Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.
Stephenie Meyer stated, "I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON."
Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together...even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

Hm, yeah, I liked the second book most of all too. Like I said, Bella wouldn't be Bella without Edward but Jacob would definitely be the one for me and he's highly featured in New Moon.
I wonder how they're going to depict his insane supernatural growth spurt or if they'll ignore that part of it.
I, of course, prefer Edward.
I imagine they probably ignore it. What I'm worried about is the whole..transformation into a werewolf bit. Hopefully it's not so bloody cheesy.
In this movie, I hope to hear a bit more talking from Edward and Bella. Those scenes within the movie where you can see them talking, but not hear anything, annoyed me!

I hope the werewolves in their wolf forms don't suck. Not just the transformation, but the end result. They've got to look like more than regular wolves but... not the hairless rat-ape things in the first Underworld.
