Alright, perhaps I am misreading these figures, but based on this data:
http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/reps/enduse/er01_us.html#Electricity
<Electricity consumption by 107 million U.S. households in 2001 totaled 1,140 billion kWh.>
That comes out to be 1065 kWh/year per house
And from this chart:
http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/table5_6_b.html
the national avg price per kWh is 9.58 cents per.
when doing the mat (1065 x .0958), it comes to $102.027 a year in electricity...
Does this seem extremely low to anyone else?
Anyone else able to read this differenly?

Yeah, you're off by a factor of 10
1,104,000,000,000 kWh divided by 107,000,000 houses = 10,654 kWh per household
10,654 x $0.0958 = $1,020.67
Which still sounds low to me, since I've been shelling out on average $150 for my parents' electric bill this year, but it's closer than $102.

I'd say that's about right for me. I never go over $110 a month in the summer and winter. I'd bet my yearly average is closer to $85 a month.
1,976 sq. ft. house.
Was a 4 bed (absorbed one room into the large master) so its a 3 bedroom/2 bath single story with detached garage.
Non A/C months in Houston, my electricity bill is ~$140 a month.
A/C months in Houston, my electricity bill is ~$300 a month.
Number of A/C months in Houston = 6 to 7 months. (Late April to October)

We pay the same amount monthly, to cover the ups and downs. (payment plan) $250 month x 12 = $3000 yearly.
3 bedroom 1 bath two-story house with basement and attic.
1500 square feet.
2 teenagers.

I had that during summer months when the kids were gone. I swore when they move out I'm using one light bulb & a hot pad to change it/take it with me from room to room just because the difference in the bill about made me cry.
