View Full Version : When will GemStone end for good?

GM Bills

When will it become like Modus Operandi?

If you don't think GS will ever end, what do you think will be the steady # of players after the decline levels off?

It's really been going downhill over the last 7 years. And no company seems to want to buy Simutronics. I think Simu is destined for the dust bin. It's only a matter of time.

Too bad, but that's life.

Gemstone will only die if Simu dies. My prediction is that 4 years from now, if SIMU has not in fact closed shop, GS prime levels will = platinum levels now. and Platinum will no longer exists.

BTW nice crash. Couldn't see any blood, were there any fatalities involved???

I've often thought about this. I suspect only the hardcore RPers will be left after the next few years (give or take 5 at the most) and GS will either back to the way it used to be years ago with only 100 or so players or fold altogether. Be nice to see GM's go back to volunteering there time and the deep commraderie return...It may afterall turn out to be a good thing.

Provided they do not close shop permanently.

Simu won't die if Whatley keeps suckering people into building game engines for him for basically free. Gemstone could have up to 10 years left in it.

Maybe if they focused on improving the game mechanics, you know like adding monks and finishing all the spells and giving squares SOMETHING that makes them less boring, rather than adding more areas on an already low populated game, it might be more fun and have more players. I never understood the point of adding more and more hunting areas when most places are already barren.

How did I know there would be a "Monks release can save GS" post.

Awesome.

I'd be interested in seeing if the code base went up for sale after simu folded.

GS will probably keep running, I bet, even if it's not Simu running it. I know that I'd do some interesting things with it.

My prediction is that GameMaster Bills is traveling the world in order to find a vast collection of automobile accidents to digitally capture and display as attached images in introductory threads.

Another prediction: You will all die some day.

No reason for it to ever end as long as there is money to be made. It can't cost much to run the game and they already know people will pay more to get more. Why give up the money?

all i know is that if it were to come to an end, someone better buy the rights to keep it running or several people are likely to committ suicide and maybe even homicide.

They would liquidate assets, most likely. Including the servers/code.

GS will actually persist long, long after we're all gone. Fills a perfect niche in today's age of fast-paced, graphical gaming.

The release of monks (still much closer than you all think) will flood GS with new and returning players. GS is very much alive and well.

It's funny when someone brags that monks are going to be released sooner than anyone thinks, considering the company's track records.

I don't really give a flying fuck about monks, but it's still funny.

And they have a friend who R massive gamerz GM and told them!!!

Besides it's almost 2004 and that's when they're sposed to come out anyway

I'll shut up now before the whole Gemstone gets cancelled and we can't play no mo.

If they keep expanding a world (area-wise) with a dwindling population, it'll probably happen sooner rather than later.

They need to recycle.

And sink everything east of the Dragonspine into the ocean.

SOON! I hope.

Then you immature fuckers will go away and the rest of us can resume the grown-up business of calling each names and posting stupid jpgs.

We come to bask in your radiant high-post-count glory.

I see high post counts as a person's inability to mind their own fucking business, and their common tendancy to push their unwanted opinions and recycled insults and jokes on those who legitimately seek help.
