Teflon or silicone are usually used.

As for who does it, most people who go for that kind of body mod usually just ask their usual piercer or tattoo artist to refer them to someone, if they don't do it themselves. It requires special tools and stuff (a spacer for stretching the skin, etc)

I know a guy who has both the tongue split and the filed teeth. It really doesn't look as neat on him as the pictures.

Well it's just that I tend to take them off because the nose clip thing bothers me and I need to rub my nose. If I couldn't do that, with something permanently on my face, I'd end up ripping it off in frustration, and then I'd really be attractive. Heh.

I used to have my ears gauged to 1/2". They shrunk back to 4ga and then stopped, but I like them at this size so it works.

If anyone is interested in more of this type of stuff, check out www.bmezine.com - they have shitloads of pictures of many different types of body mods, both extreme and more common ones. I know I've seen some crazy piercings on there (like eyelid and "deep chest" piercings).

I know a lot of people with 10/9. Well knew, seeing I haven't spoken with most of them in years My one friend had these bars implanted into his forearm, was freaky, but cool. And my ex gf had a heart implanted on one side of her hip and a branding of a heart on the other side.

This stuff doesn't even come close to the most extreme forms of body modification. Ever seen patterned skin removal or people who've sewn their eyes or mouth shut? Tribal neck stretching, foot binding... things like that have been going on for centuries, too.

...It's getting weirder and weirder out there- a good thing.
