I just went out to have a smoke and finish my coffee and I didn't get the screen door closed fast enough behind me and hellraiser went full speed out through my legs. He usually just scampers up a tree and gets on the roof.

This time he ran straight into Alt-19 and got hit. Car slowed down then just kept going. The first cat I ever really fucking liked.

I wish I knew who the fucker was that didn't stop.

I'm not sure if I'm going to tell my SO yet but she'll be out looking and calling for him everyday if I don't and that will surely get the kids and her going. Maybe I should just tell her and figure out the kids later. They've never dealt with a death of a pet yet that they can remember anyways.

Except the hermit crabs that Patton decided to kill of theirs when he was a bit younger.

Anyways I had to tell/vent to someone. Not exactly a lot of people around here to talk to things about IRL.

Ugh, that fucking sucks. I'm sorry. :(

When will you people quit letting your cats outside, though. My babies will stay nice and safe inside.

edit: nm, I somehow missed the part about the screen door. Double sucky.

Just tell them the truth. That the cat got outside and got hit by car. No sense lying.

Very sad though. I hardly ever let my cats out, when I do I supervise them carefully. I can't imagine watching one of my cats run in front of a car though :(

Well, except yours has all of it's whiskers.

Nice... now some asshole just hit and run my fucking garbage can and tossed the shit all over into the neighbors yard right where my cat landed.

I'm starting to think I pissed off Tamral.

I'm sure you wanted to have a rational conversation with them, right? Maybe appologize to them if they happened to be a cat/animal lover, for the trauma they had to endure because you weren't more aware of your house surroundings before opening a door to leave, correct?

I can almost see it now.

You: "WHAT THE FUCK!? YOU JUST HIT MY FUCKING CAT YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!"
Them: (insert any response. I'm sure they could say anything from "Why did it run out into the road?" to "WHAT THE FUCK?! YOU JUST GOT A DENT IN MY NEW FUCKING CAR YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!" to "Shit happens" to the truth, "Well I regret what happened, but it's entirely your fault")

Sorry man, the death of a pet always sucks. You guys all know how much I love my dogs. I keep them in the yard and don't let them run free, but accidents happen, and it's a horrible feeling.

Sorry bud. Don't listen to the haters here, some people just don't have any class.

Losing a pet sucks man, I was a wreck when my last weiner dog died and I'm sure I'll be just as shitty when one of my others goes.

There is a public awareness campaign out there even about keeping cats indoors, moreso because they fuck up the predator volume and threaten bird species, but obvious it is safer for the cat too.

Our cats if the door is left open get really curious, but as they've never been allowed out they afraid of the outside like crazy and so don't go running out there.

Sorry for your loss.

My sympathies too.

There are times when I KNOW the damned cat is there, and she doesn't seem at all interested in going into our bedroom (this goes for both our cats, who especially aren't allowed in since LilyAnne was born), and then just as I step through the door, she goes tearing in with me. So I totally know about how tricky cats can be.

So, yeah Garnet Doyle, fuck off.

When my wife talked me into buying her the first of our two little dogs I had to invoke George Carlin's famous pet quote - “little bundles of tragedy.”

I have started a savings account to pay for her therapy when they go to the big dog park in the sky.

I'm surprised he just ran out. My first cat actually looked both ways before crossing the street. Though his death was worse...we couldn't bring ourselves to put him down, thus watching him slowly die of kidney failure :(

That sucked, but it was his time. It wasn't Patton's time. I'm sorry for your loss, and hope the dude that ran him over gets his just desserts.

Sean of the Thread

Lol I'm not surprised at all he bolted .. he does it every opportunity he can and usually has a lizard in his mouth within seconds. He was a born killer.

Just sucks overall. Still haven't resolved it with the kids just the old lady and all she does is blame and berate me for it... "hope you learned your lesson about bringing home a stray kitten" etc. Bitch.

Last night was the shittiest seeing how some asshole swerved off the road and hit my garbage bin and flung it into the neighbors yard right where he landed and I had to call in a hit and run and clean up the garbage just hours after I scraped my cat off the pavement. Was weird without him fucking with me when I was sleeping too.

I wouldn't have been pissed at the driver I was just surprised. I've hit a few cats and dogs that have just darted out in front and I've always stopped to look to see if they needed a trip to humane society at the very least or a .357 sig round.

Anyways he's got a nice little burial site hidden on the side of the house.

This is the second pet I've lost and for some reason this one being a what? about 6 month old cat is worse than when the deputies shot my dog of years in my yard. Didn't know I had it in me.

Anyways back to free porn and thx again.

Our neighbors cat got hit by a car yesterday. This stopped by tonight to hand out "missing kitty" fliers and when I showed it to my wife she mentioned she had seen it (or what she thought was it) up the street in the road.

The thing is, they let their cats roam free around the neighborhood without collars or anything, and we've always said they were going to get hit eventually.... you hate being right because it isn't the cat's fault, but hopefully maybe they learn to keep their other ones indoors.

Lots of cat breeders won't even sell you a kitten unless you say you won't let them outdoors.

It's against the law to have outdoor cats here in the city. We keep inside he was just a crazy muther kitten.

He does have an awesome grave however. I buried him in his favorite paper grocery bag with his favorite fucking wrapping paper that he tore up all the time just for fun.

About 4 feet deep with wood planks over it and one on top with his name etched in via knife.

Then I planted aloe plants all over the top.

yeah i guess I'm being a pussy about it.

Because it's entirely their fault. They should've seen the little furball bolting towards their car and they should've swerved into a tree to avoid hitting it.

My first cat, Paco, was my age (my parents got him in Cuba a month before I was born) and nearly died of kidney failure when he was 12 years old. We had him on IVs and a force-feeding regimen for two months, and then he rebounded and got a lot better.. he lived until 18 years old after that. Died in the summer I graduated from high school, I held him in my arms while he got the shot to put him to sleep. He was so bad he was having seizures and couldn't walk, so we decided it was the only humane thing to do though I balled my eyes out while doing it. My dad has his ashes in a little box at home. I was really touched though when the veterinarian hospital we went to added a new kennel room to their hospital and called it the "Paco" room. Our veterinarian loved our cat nearly as much as we did and said she was really touched that we cared for him like a sick human family member instead of something expendable.

I dunno, in my family we've always cared for pets that way, like a real family member, etc. I think it's natural to take their death kind of hard or want to do something a little extra even after they've passed. My grandma's vegetable garden has a bunch of little etched rocks over the graves of over 20 cats she's had throughout her life.. it's a nice way to remember them.

When I had to put my 17 yo lab to sleep, the only regret I have about it, even 2 years later, is I didn't bring her home and bury her in my yard. I think it's awesome you did that.

Attempting to come to a complete stop would have sufficed. Swerving not necessary. If the cat still got hit, at least there was like, effort.

Actually, Sean, did the car slow down after the cat got hit or before?

Sorry about the loss Sean. Always sucks to lose an animal.

I caused my dog of 4 years to get hit by a grain truck when I was like 14. He was in a neighboring field and there was a paved road with high traffic on it and it was harvesting season.

I called him from the side of the road on the opposite side and he was bouncing up and down running through the wheat field coming to me and a grain truck comes over a hill about 20 yards from my view going 50 miles an hour and WHAM. Took his head off right in front of me while I was waiting for the bus to go to school. Asshole didn't stop or anything, just plowed on through. Ironically... the dogs name was lucky...

I feel for you dude, I still keep pics.

Yea, unless you live in the country, having an indoor cat is a good idea.

I'm eagerly anticipating moving on with my life so I can get my little Bengal that I've been dying to get forevar. Even though it's against the law in NYS and all. Shh.

Sorry about your loss, Sean. It's a rough thing to know that your pet will die before you. Even worse when it's a silly/fucked up reason for it to happen, rather than a natural cause.

One of these days, we should make a care package for you. A four leaf clover, rabbit's foot, a horseshoe, etc.

Nah I can't take care of myself let alone another pet.

I just gifted my turtle of 12 years away to the guy that I gave my aquarium to.

*if I get back on my feet again I wouldn't mind another pet but they are expensive to take care of. I've got to quit adopting pets when I run into them. Other than my ex's cats which were kittens when I met them the rest were all strays and Mic was the runt of a litter that my step brother breeds for hunting so I took him in since he could not even get on a tit.
