I hate not being able to sleep. I have to be up in a few hours and haven't managed to get to sleep at all yet. What works for you when you can't get to sleep?

Edit: Seriously, its the only thing I've ever found to work, aside booze but drinking just to get to sleep is stupid.

Generally I lay down, close my eyes, take a breath in, let it out, and count it as one... breathe in, out, two... and continue as such till ten... then back track back to one, if you go too far or forget where you are you go back to one... try to keep the breathes the same rhythm all the way through... works for me most nights

I heard staying up reading forums and playing wow helps with insomnia...

I wish it was insomnia keeping me awake.

I take half an ambien every night. Since I started taking it, I feel the best I have in years.

It's also self defeating. Drunken sleep isnt restful sleep.

I think about what I have to do at work the next day.

I've been working 3rd shift for so many years now that my body no longer wants to sleep. It's weird, any noise, any light will wake me up.

To combat that, I'll either take muscle relaxors, sleeping pills, or a half a bottle of nyquil. (or really, any combination of the three depending on how well the sleeping is going).

I have to get off of nights soon, I'm at the point where I never feel like I sleep, but I never really wake up either. I slept a lot better back when I was high 99% of the time (outside of work).

I take Topamax about an hour before I wanna go to sleep, or else I'll sleep only a couple hours at a time. Not much of a help, I know :/

I've been sleeping like a freaking baby since I started training in Zujitsu.

Yeah I slept really good when I was practicing Toshiba.

Reminds me of when I worked 3rd shift at FedEx during college. My sleep was irregular and the worst part was getting used to that sporadic sleep pattern. I loved that job (great way to pay for Spring Break) but I was damn glad when I didn't need it any longer.

Try doing something physically active a couple hours before bedtime and not going to sleep on an empty stomach. I've heard that meditating and yoga help with insomnia if you can get into it, personally I have a hard time with relaxation and meditation techniques.

I find that the more I think about it the less likely I am to fall asleep. I usually just watch a movie to get my mind off things and it usually works. Not such great TV on at 4 in the morning though.

I sleep pretty good after I think what I have to do for the next day. Once I believe I got everything, I go and check the front door lock.

Then watch Sex and The City.

Haha.

Usually when I can't sleep, it's due to thinking about the next day, so like Zuie, I think it through. I actually keep a notepad next to my bed to put together a list, though, so I can be sure I won't forget.
