View Full Version : Level 86
About to be using my friend's 86 sorcerer, reopening it after quite a while.
My highest level character is 60 so I don't know about the upper levels (or about sorcerers for that matter). What is the easiest/most generic way to hunt or a simple runestaff training plan. He obviously has fix skills etc, dark elf I believe.
Oh and where to hunt.

you can just do escorts if you really want to go easy street.
Otherwise: Rift, ducts (OTF), some of Nelemar. Bowels if you want to torture yourself, I hate that fucking place.

Yeah I've only heard bad things about the Bowels, unless you are a wizard I guess.
Well no to escorts as I don't think that would be very fun.
What train are you anyway Allereli?

Runestaff training (simplified):
24 ranks Physical Fitness
2x Harness Power
X amount ranks armor (My sorcerer wore robes. 8 for double, 15 for leather breastplate)
1-1.5x lores. I don't like splitting up my lores, so I went all for necromancy, but if you're heavy on lores at level 86 you can probably get away with splitting 'em up if you wanna go for both.
2.5x-3x spells. Personally I went light on minor spirit, and pumped extra ranks into the others with a greater emphasis for CS on the sorcerer list. (You may not need this at 86 though. I was only 60)
2x Spell aiming (focused implode)
1x spirit mana control (DC mana return)
24-30 ranks elemental mana control (24 is 100% for you. A few extra helps people that don't share as well)
1x MIU (runestaff rank)
1x Arcane symbols (runestaff rank)
25 ranks climb
25 ranks swim
Some ranks of elemental lore if you want (20-30 or so.). I forget exactly why, but I remember they helped with crits on one of your big hunting spells. Dark Catalyst I think.
Read up on Necromancy and Demonology lore. Both are viable paths, and based on personal preference. I know some people who've successfully done both at the same time, but it's never quite as effective and you'll never really get the big perks. It's more efficient for hunting though I think.
Extra points? Well, depends. I was all about powerhunting efficiency, so every extra point I got went into extra lores and extra spell ranks especially. MnE is really good once you've got about 60 ranks in it, and the more sorcerer circle ranks obviously the better for CS.
You could of course choose to go for foraging, or skinning, whatever you want really, as long as you realize you'll never be able to skin the best creatures as well as say a ranger, or even be able to skin things at all in some cases with just 1x.
But yeah, that's a decent basic runestaff plan.
Always a good idea to find some sorcerers on psinet too and ask if you can take a look at their skills.
Elronae's built real well. I'm sure she wouldn't mind you taking a peek.
Awesome, great, just what I was looking for.
But I am assuming the 2x Harness Power is for non-COLers?

LOL The bowels aren't really that bad. It isn't a friendly place but it can be challenging. If you have the right necro ranks for 711 to work, keep all the Greater Krynches in Round time otherwise they will knock your head off with a boulder. But Zhelas was a bit crazy anyway and hunted the bowels. It is rich.
The bowels is one of the worst places for a wizard, epecially an immolation one.
You can solo Nelemar at 87 and 88. You more than likely will have to FI everything at first. But the town is close by so you can learn quickly. Stay away from defenders and sentries. Sheer fear is murder. I actually find the Temple easeir than the Bowels.
Zhelas went to Nelemar at 88.
The rift is easy street. plane 3 disrupt the right arms off the N'ecare and they sit there grinning at you as you 702 or 705 them to death. Plane 5 ewave or web then spirit fire rules there.
Zhelas is currently 93.

My sorcerer was in CoL, and I always tried to keep as close to 2x HP as I could. I think by 60 though I was a little behind on it in favor of more spell ranks, but the extra 50-60 mana helped me out for two reasons. First, I tended to help a lot of lowbies hunt. Spirit strike and 708 costs add up real fast when you're helping a lowbie overhunt. Or curse, for hunting with casters.
Second, my own hunts tended to be extended. I hunted a lot for money, and I found the extra 60 mana gave me just enough oomph to keep going pretty much indefinitely.
Third, dark elves regen spirit real slow. Even in CoL you're probably only gonna be able to wrack once per hunt, which is enough to get you fried usually, but not enough to money hunt.
My sorcerer was human, and regen'd spirit a bit faster, but I liked the extra mana even so.
You can choose to lower it down in favor of extra ranks someplace else though. Going from 11 or so runestaff training ranks to 10.5 won't really hurt your DS much, if at all.

Honestly 1.5 should be good enough for Non Col members. The cost for that extra 1 point of mana, in my honest opinion is not worth it. I didn't realize this when I returned 5 years ago. Zhelas was close to 50. I fixed skilled my HP down to 1x and put the points into spells and lores.
Learn Sacrifice. Helps extending your hunt.

Ooh yeah, I completely forgot about sacrifice. I didn't like doing it. Was always a pain in the ass to get something just below being killed so you could sacrifice it.
If you can deal with doing it though (and it's really not that big of a nuisance. I'm just lazy), you can absolutely get away with 1x HP

Below is Zhelas. I am not saying that this is the right training path, but to give you an idea. You don't need as much lore as I have. Honestly Lores are fluff. But I chose to make Zhelas an animater. At the time when I made that choice. Summoning Lores played little in our spells. One of my post cap goals is to get Summoning Lores.

my approximate training as a stick holder. Aller is built to actually use all sorcerer skills fairly well rather than just have a high CS, which is boring IMO. She also skins and forages:
~24 ranks Physical Fitness
1x Harness Power
8 ranks armor (doubles)
75 demon lore
~90 necro lore
35 spirit summon
2x spells (plus some extra, maybe 5 or 6)
2x Spell aiming
almost 1x spirit mana control
almost 1x elemental mana control
1x MIU
100+ Arcane symbols
~35 ranks climb
~42 ranks swim
~56 first aid
~35 survival
~.5x perception

2x in spell aiming helps with Focused Maelstrom, aiming the limbs that you disrupt(which can be a life savor), Focused Implosion, Spirit Fire and wizard wands.
Honestly if you don't 2x in spell aiming then don't bother with it.
You should 1x in both spirit mana and elemental mana controls. This helps in the ammount of mana you get per pulse, reducing the cost on your focused implosion, the ammount of mana you get on a sacrifice, and the mana you get back on 719

xxxx (at level 86), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:
Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 40 8 (wear double leather)
Physical Fitness...................| 102 24
Arcane Symbols.....................| 372 172 (2x for extra runetaff defense)
Magic Item Use.....................| 372 172 (2x for extra runetaff defense)
Spell Aiming.......................| 0 0 (Spell aiming is a big waste of TP unless your in nelmar and need to implode elementals)
Harness Power......................| 194 94 (1x to 2x depending on what you have left over)
Elemental Mana Control.............| 180 80
Spirit Mana Control................| 200 100
Sorcerous Lore - Demonology........| 163 63 (for 712, 704, and 740)
Sorcerous Lore - Necromancy........| 0 0 (if you have the extra TP 30 ranks is good here for 711, 701, and 708 animate limbs)
Perception.........................| 150 50 (throw extra TP as needed good protection against scouts and executioners ambushing)
Climbing...........................| 120 30
Swimming...........................| 160 60
Spell Lists
Minor Elemental....................| 75
Spell Lists
Minor Spirit.......................| 40

Sorcerer...........................| 100
Mana controls i like to keep one higher and dividable by 10 and one lower and dividable by 20 just for the little extra mana return.
You could 1x MIU and AS if you don't use scrolls and put it more into HP.
63 demonology lets you phase 28 lbs (most boxes), get 95% success with 712 at 50 ranks and rift 3 people.
I think this is a good build for someone not animating or doing scroll infusion.
rift 3 people.
Thanks for your info.
As for the above quote, that's for 740 right? For some reason I thought you could only do it to yourself. Isn't it 100k per rune? And if it is, does that mean 100k for one person?

740 allows you to transport other people within the same realm, if you have the lore. 100k is wrong I think. The realm to realm chalk is like 50k maybe? the others are stinking cheap. You can 740 inside a realm as cheap as you can use a gold ring. Well almost. You can get gold rings for free hunting, I dont think I have ever found chalk as loot.
The chalk is used to draw the lines, doesn't factor into how many people travel.

Actually your build is perfect for scroll infusion. :)
I will say the folks with summoning lores, 2x in spell aim.. find that webbing in combination with 111 is insane! Webs burn! But it is mana intensive.
When Zhelas is Capped he will be 2.4x in spells.
The thing that is consistant with all these builds is we carry a runestaff.
You can have a successful sorcerer carry a shield then brawl or carry a blade. But those abilities are very point intensive. The defense is great with a shield/brawl or a sword/board combination. However you may find that you have to sacrifice other magical skills.

Depending on racial factors/trading skills/citizenship will determing the cost of the chalks.
Between realms on average the chalk is around 50k. It is a one way ticket. You can't take anyone with you except your animate. We used it alot with our animate battles.
Within realm the average cost of the chalk is 900 silvers. Howver I believe you get a total of 10 rifts with that one. You can take folks with you. The number of folks you can bring depends on the amount of Demonology you have.
Once you start using 740 you will never want to stop.

Plane 1 is rich, though the oldest creature there is 77. Plane 2 is annoying with the Witches which you can't hurt and the worms. Plane 3 is fairly easy the N'ecare are 87 and the Aivren are 86. Don't bother with the Warlocks you can't hurt them.
The bowels will work if you only hunt Greater Krynches 84 and Earth elementals 82. Run from the Jarls and Elders. I would hunt in the section through the opening. The jarls and elders don't spawn there as often.
The bowels are challenging. They are not easy street. When you fry don't stick around .. head to town. I always got killed when I fried and got greedy for loot.
