So what's everyone doing in anticipation of the expansion? What toon are you leveling up as your main?
For me, I'm leveling up my warrior first, then leveling up my Death Knight. I'm also trying to be ADHD and trying to get the exploration achievements done.. which are a gigantic pain in the ass... but pretty easy with Carbonite map addon.
I also have 25 big quests to turn in once I get into Lich King to give me a headstart on leveling. I'll need it because I'll be working late most of the following week.

I wonder how many will adopt doing the "Dailys" (Ogrilla, Isle, etc) as a way to "farm" exp/gold in WotLK.

I know I will... at least until like 72 or so. I have a feeling that Blizzard will end up making them give lower than normal experience to force players onto the new island. Personally, I doubt I'll go to the new island for a couple of days, unless I get 25 dailies done and still playing. The lagfest will be frustrating as all hell.
finish quests in my log so I have plenty of room for new quests
clear bags of all pve gear so I can level and fill my bags full of juicy vendor or ah stuff
clear an alt to hold leather and items needed later
Get my warrior (my enchanting bitch) higher level so he can de for me once I get 80
I am off thursday and friday so have the time to get significant levels by Sunday
I am sure there are other things I can do but right now those are my focus.
Achievements I have finished all exploration and was working on rep. I really wanted to be exhalted with undercity but not sure I will get that in time and I have no clue how to get higher with TB and Silvermoon as I have did all the quests in those areas so just the 1/4 stuff you get for normal questing. I am also working on the fishing ones and book ones those are fun.

Do 25 daily quests and turn them in when the expansion hits. That'll be over 100K experience right there and you will have zero quests in your log to pick up the new ones.
And I hate you for having off Thursday and Friday... My only comeback is that I have off from Friday 11/21 to Monday 12/1.

I was planning on the 25 quests ready ahead of time also but then saw a blue post saying it most likely won't work if you took the quest at 70 since you 'accepted' the reward as being gold instead of xp :( Now he said if you were just under 70 at the time you'd be gtg.
Here's hoping.

Well I've been searching & I can't find the post I read now, I think the advanced search function is broken on the wow site.
What I did find if you do have 25 quests & IF they do give xp it will be significantly less than what the northrend starter quests do.

One mvp response anyway.
Yeah I heard instance grinding will not be like TBC and 70 quests won't give you what 71 will. I like doing new quests and you get all the exploration stuff out of the way

Unless each quest gives 0 experience.

Except the time spent turning them all in (unless they are close together) would have been better spent on questing in Northrend.

I'm leveling my mage to 80 first, then I'll probably roll a death knight. Then eventually I'll level my warrior and rogue. One day.
Right now I just want a motorcycle mount with a sidecar.

I'm going dual wield frost/unholy like I did in beta, at least to lvl.

Is it better than the axe you get at 58? The blue gear you get as a death knight was pretty overpowered for the level if I remember correctly.

That's a 2 hander. The blue gear is ok but you'll have most of it replaced by 65 in just quest rewards. Which sucks because you'll look like a hobo. Helm and pants are the hardest to replace.
I also made a leg patch for my pants since those are one of the last pieces to get replaced around lvl 68 if I remember right. So yeah I'm on track to have everything I need for lvl 70 (which you can hit quite easily given the xp changes. Do thrallmar, zangarmarsh, a few instances, skip to nagrand and you're already 66 finishing nagrand quests puts you at 69-70).

Ohh if you're not going to try dual wield don't waste your money with a BoE blue 2h. The axe/sword you get from the DK quest will last you just fine. You can pick up a hellreaver from ramparts or any of the green quest rewards until ring of blood at 65. You could also snag the green 2h sword from Halaa at lvl 66.

The gamestop in the mall here expects 250+. The one 1.5 miles away thats tucked away in the back of a small shopping center expects somewhere around 40.
And as for me, levelling my warrior, my mage, and then probably checking out the deathknight fun in the spare time if I have any, since I've only got about 3 weeks to get the two mains to 80.

You'd be retarded to fill up your questlog full of dailies and expect much xp.

You can indeed upgrade your account to Lich King using a regular version, then apply the Collector's Edition later on. It'll just mean you have to call Billing directly to have them attach that Auth key to your account. The regular key that was used up would also be lost and couldn't be attached to another account.
Way back this wasn't possible, but we've been doing the CE upgrades for a little while now. Take it from someone who works at Blizzard. ;)

The CE has a Lich King art book, some behind the scenes DVD something or other, a soundtrack CD, a mousepad map of Northrend (although it's the slick kind, I hate those ones without traction), some TCG card starter decks and a vanity pet biscuit loot card. ::sigh:: I'd been debating whether or not to come back for this one, seeing as how I somewhat quickly lost interest after TBC's lack-of-expanding PvP options (..No thank you, Eye of the Storm), over-focus on the Arena and I couldn't dedicate as much time as I could when I was working on my undergrad.
I generally get bored with my characters in games, a big reason why I was never able to stick with one character in Gemstone until they made Empaths capable of kicking ass, but the Druid in WoW was versatile enough to let me change styles. I enjoyed battleground PVP (wanted more large-scale battles like AV), but trying to Moonkin through the Arena was extremely discouraging.
Anyway, I ordered the collector's edition (still available on http://www.newegg.com) and hope to get it on Friday. I wonder if my old guild is still around..

Yea.. but nothing is really useful in the entire set of "extras". An art book? a CD? Nothing that really made a guy want to spend the extra money. I think Blizzard did a horrible job in thinking that out.
Want to make a fortune? Put in a cool mount that would cost you next to nothing and people would pay out the ass for it. Put in like a Rhino or elephant mount and you wouldn't have been able to keep up with all the orders. Or put in a cool trinket that isn't overpowered but is fun as hell to have.. like that drill thing that ports you off to BRD.
An artbook? A CD? Garbage.

If I wasn't getting the CE free, I probably wouldn't get it. I'm just not into the extras personally, and I'll probably never even use some of them. But it's not that much extra money, it's not like people are trading their first-borns in for it.
Seems like it's one of those "may as well just go all in for the expansion" kind of situations. I tend to be that way with other stuff. Spend a little extra to get a little more, just in case I ever want it in the future.
Is there a way to change a EU version of the game into a US versioon.
I remember there was something in a file that related to the servers the game connected to once upon a time.
If there is, can I buy an EU version and change that part over so I can use it on my US game?

All I can think of is to edit your realmlist.wtf file to this:
set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist us.version.worldofwarcraft.com
That's also how you access private servers, but with the private server's address of course.
Except I don't even see a realmlist.wtf file in my WoW folder anymore since I put Wotlk on, so that could pose a bit of a problem.

Except I don't even see a realmlist.wtf file in my WoW folder anymore since I put Wotlk on, so that could pose a bit of a problem. It's something like that, but I don't personally know how to do it. I know that people do edit the realmlist to be able to access the EU servers from a US client - so I'm pretty sure that one's possible. Maybe give google a shot, you could probably get a definite answer on the WoW Forums too (if you want to put up with those Forums ;)).
The realmlist was moved to a different place in the WoW directory in one of the recent patches, not certain if it was to discourage private server use or for another reason. A quick search puts it in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data\enUS (assuming you've got WoW installed to the default location).

it's 4-6 hours per level if you know what you're doing. If you have the right gear, that person likely bought his copy at a 7-11 that was selling em early, or just downloaded wrath the night before the release, had it fully installed so they could start at 12:01 a.m, sped through only the main questline in Borean to get them to Dragonblight halfway to 71 before most people even got their copy of wrath home and installed, and had Dragonblight and Grizzly Hills to themselves for the majority of the first day. Ezmode 74 in 18-20 hours.
I had thursday off from work, back at work friday, and spent most of my day saturday and sunday watching football, and I've still hit 77 without any real trouble, mostly from getting to 74.5 and into Zul'Drak on the first day.

Argent Dawn had it's first level 80 DK tonight around 6 PM. I've got one to 70 as it's going to become my raid main and I didn't want to be lagging levels behind the guild, now it's back to a casual leveling pace. Though, thanks to the refer-a-friend deal, I AM actually nerd enough to dual-box, so my old hunter main is jogging around behind me firing off autoshots so they'll get to 80 together. 55 to 70 was so easy, and it's nice to actually see the difference my hunter's gear is making as I laugh at the quest rewards when I turn stuff in with him, and instantly equip something from nearly every quest with the DK.

Got my C.E. yesterday. Played a few hours, about halfway up to 71. New areas are pretty, and there's been a lot of "ahh, makes sense" changes to WoW like the incorporation of pets/mounts/currencies into the interface rather than inventory, the unification of +spell damage and +spell healing into "spell power," and the new Druid abilities like Typhoon and Starfall (FINALLY! Starfall).
I'm used to to a few differences in Warhammer, where in addition to showing up on the minimap, quest destinations/goals show up as indistinct red blobs on the global map, giving you a place to search around. In WoW, I have to read the quest description (oh noes!), which feels like a step back. Not being able to queue up for battlegrounds from anywhere also feels kind of limiting, but I guess I'll get used to it.
They had refunded my talent points, so I re-specced as balance and am loving it. 5000+ starfall crits are always fun, but it's really annoying not being able to fly in Northrend yet. Feels like another step back. Unfortunately, my guild on Dragonblight has disbanded and I'm trying to hook up with remnants at the moment.
Tried out a Death Knight.. I love the starting area/quests, runeblading and the fact that they just dump blues/a purp on you through quests. I really wish they'd let you create other Lv55 chars, though. If I wanted a mage, it'd be a huge pain to start out from scratch.

Tauren DK, named Dachcow http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dunemaul&n=Dachcow.
I'm a pretty easy kill at the moment because I'm not specc'd for PvP at all. I only went 26 points into unholy for the pet to make questing easier and the rest is frost for dual wield which I'm enjoying. My burst potential is very good and I've got a 30 yard range on my big damage but I don't have the deep survivability of a full blood or unholy build. It's more of a true PvE dps build (although I wouldn't go deeper than 21 points unholy for raiding).

is it me, or does Northren feel like it has been hit with a huge nerf hammer?
I'm 2-manning 5-man quests ... and when my group didn't realize that Anubrak (in Anjol-Nerub) will lock you out if you don't move in enough when the fight starts ... me (Prot Paladin) and a Holy Paladin basically 2-man-ed that fight (holy priest and 2 hunters were stuck watching).
That was the shortest 3 boss instance ever. What was even the point to it?

What does everything think about Nilhem/SK having completely cleared Naxx 25-man, Magyos, etc ... within the first weekend?
I glanced at their website, and they indicated that they think WoW may have been nerfed too hard in favor of the casual players.

Hm. Maybe. I always felt kind of disenfranchised by the "extreme" content like MC/Naxx/etc, but even my first guild's feeble attempts to clear MC were fun, if pointless.
My next guild, a fairly serious raiding guild, essentially didn't bother with Naxx or the like. They went in a few times, but I only went to Zul'gurub/CoT/Kharazan/etc. Some stuff, I just found painful.
Heroic Shattered Halls? We weren't the best constructed group, didn't have the necessarily best equipment (we'd just all hit 70), and kept wiping out over and over and over again on the long hallway with groups every few yards. Very frustrating. Don't really remember it well at this point, though.
Edit: While I'm kind of let down that I'll probably never be one of the people to kill Arthas, as my playtime is relatively limited, I'm glad it exists. I want there to be challenges to keep those kind of dedicated players in the game. I don't want them to dumb all the content down so I can casually experience it. Even though I can't spend 10 hours a day on it as I did for a long time in college, I'm glad some people can.
I glanced at their website, and they indicated that they think WoW may have been nerfed too hard in favor of the casual players. There has always been several aspects to WoW, only one of them being high-level end game raiding. I think these elite guilds forget that very few guilds are going to be as dedicated as they are when it comes to new content. They cleared all new content in the span of 2-3 days, yet, they are still the minority in WoW; a game with a massive casual player base. I think this was definitely one of the methods to keep more casual players interested in new content that they actually have a shot at clearing and to aid actual raid progression for more casual guilds. Naxx was re-released for a reason.
The hardcore players have already cleared all new PVE content released in WOTLK and now they have to wait until the next patch to explore new content. Boo. Hoo.

I'm gonna guess that a lot of the low-mid 70s content is coming across as easy because of gear. I'm geared in a mixture of S1-S4 gear and haven't replaced anything yet, and the instances I've ran have been cake.
I'd imagine if you were sporting level 71 greens or something, the instances might have posed some sort of challenge, but who knows maybe they did go nuts with the nerf bat.
What does everything think about Nilhem/SK having completely cleared Naxx 25-man, Magyos, etc ... within the first weekend?

Do the Naxx encounters work the same as they did before, just with numbers adjusted for 25-man and being 80? If so then that would explain how they plowed through that so quick. No idea about malygos though.
On clearing the material so fast. They have been doing this stuff in beta forever they knew it backwards and forwards and were sunwell geared the whole guild. Will some green geared group who never got farther than kara do that I will wait and see.
Naxx fights are basically the same so it should be a fairly easy instance as the strats for those have been out for 2 years.
The part about it being too easy I thought so too I was solo'ing all the elite group quests through the fjord and tundra. Well I am in dragonblight and I tried to solo a 5 man elite dude and I am still scraping the pieces of myself off the cliffs. he was a bit harder.
UT is very very simple. Nexus is fun but again not very difficult. Anub place tiny bit harder we are t6 geared and wiped a few times on those bosses we are all now mid 70's and its a breeze. I really enjoyed Drak something or other. Just did my first level 80 instance and it was tough we only had 2 80's with us took forever to kill bosses and the fights were quite interesting. I am looking forward to trying them in heroic.
I am loving the place so far wonderful detail and we are back to a warcraft feel not so much aliens from outer space.
anyway just my take.

SR, Wowwiki and Wowhead are decent resources if you haven't checked them out already.
I ran Nexus last night as a healer (although I'm a balance Druid). I was afraid I wouldn't be able to cut it with my lack of resto enhancements and mediocre equipment (only +630 heal/damage, 15% crit) but we made it through okay. I did manage to /facepalm wipe us out by accidentally pulling about three normal pulls worth of mobs with a careless cast of Starfall.
Nothing good dropped for any of us. Trash plate boots off the first boss, a wand from one of them.. I collected some Storm Guard Tokens (or something), but have no idea where to turn them in. It was fun, but I'm not sure I'll do it again for anything except the chain quests.
I also dropped blacksmithing. I can't decide whether I want leatherworking or tailoring. On one hand, with leatherworking I'll actually be able to make a few nice pieces I'll wear. On the other hand, I seriously doubt I'll A) end up making it and B) end up keeping it over raid/quest equipment.
With tailoring, I can make the thread inserts to give +spellpower/etc into any of my equipment, cloth or not, and also be able to make the flying carpet. <3
I got up to 75 in tailoring, but they want 10 gold per 20 wool and I'm just not willing to pay that. Time to start farming..

That's a steal. I sell for 15g per stack.
No idea why, but it sells. You can just do a deamines run (or WC) and get a ton of wool. Not sure why people feel the need to pay really exorbitant prices for easy-to-acquire stuff. not really bothered though, pays for my stuff.

Some mage specs are more mana intensive than others but yeah, you'll be drinking a lot as you level up. They're still a lot of fun to play.
Well I guess ill stick it out, spec'd for frost its pretty frustrating being a mage on an uber small pvp server and being low level. Had to walk alot last night and a 30th level hunter was hunting outside a town I had to walk past he killed me like 7 times without even stopping his grind....its like why am I so weak.
Ashliana

I love how much they've buffed the Balance school. Starfall, Typhoon and now Hurricane has no cooldown whatsoever (though still mana intensive), can usually take on 3-4 like-level mobs at a time without too much difficulty.

It'll get better though and a lot more fun as you get more spells. I tried doing a fire as well as an ice spec and I loved them both. Fire moves faster because it causes a lot of damage, where ice just slows them down so that you can take your sweet time.
And... I really need to stop reading this thread. :(

It used to be 40 so that's a nice advantage for you n00bs. Get a leveling buddy, this will undoubtly make an ally think twice about ganking you. Typically, any mana dependent class will go through mana water. It's a must that my hunter keep a nice supply of mana water on hand at all times because of it.

Yeah, fast ground mounts at 60 for a price. :D
It's a regular group of people to chat with, do quests with, do instances with and eventually down the road to raid with. Depending on the guild's rules, they often have banks to use for mats you might need as well.

I guess the idea is eventually to build up a base of people that can do instances and raids well together and share materials. The guild I joined the leader runs me through shadowfang keep repeatedly(hes 60) to get me experience and blues, I think they really need a mage or something. I dont really care about that stuff yet but I guess it will be cool later.

I spent most of last night 1v2'ing these two retards (shaman + rogue) that kept trying to gank me while I was questing. They either had terrible gear or were just fucking idiots, because I was mopping the floor with them both.

I have not grouped with a good partner yet. The server I am on is like 50% hardcore assholes and 50% "Where am I" newbs like me. Some of them dont have the advantage of having a background in rpgs though. Grouping with someone who isnt going to draw any aggro or do any damage is like hey want half my experience? especially for a mage cause I really just need someone to taunt. And on the water deal I can make it so thats never a problem the waiting 22 seconds pisses me off

I haven't bought the xpac yet due to time restraints to get into it but if you want/need some levelling help on dunemaul horde let me know.
Yeah and Methais I'm still tweaking my arcane spec (I fucked up on accident speccing) but it's not bad. I was pure frost prior but with some tweaks and some gear arcane seems to be the new shiz.
Grouping with someone who isnt going to draw any aggro or do any damage is like hey want half my experience? Completely understandable considering the kind of class you play (AOE damage master), but keep in mind that leveling with someone is going to increase the speed at which you complete your quests while at the same time mitigate your chances of being ganked, which is a big waste of time when leveling. Finding someone capable and suited to your play style is the kicker.
And on the water deal I can make it so thats never a problem the waiting 22 seconds pisses me offYeah, that's what I meant to refer to. I take less time drinking as my character is older and has a higher rate of mana regenerated, but the number of times I'm drinking/eating while leveling is just about the same, especially when I'm hunting alone.

I just need to build up some better gear but even in crap gear I have over 20k in health in dire bear form. Can't wait to hit 80 and start taking heroics and raids to really get good gear.
