Okay, my wireless decided to be a dick today. I was on it yesterday everything was fine and now it's not working. I've been puzzling over it for the last 2 hours and can't figure anything out. Here is what I know so far.
(Using Vista)

1. My wireless isn't working.
2. When I got to the network and Sharing Center it says it's only connected locally. There is an x between the linksys router and my computer.
3. When I diagnose and repair it says "Cannot Connect To Primary DNS Server"
4. It's not my modem because I am on now straight from my modem to computer using the cord.
5. My Internet explorer isn't working. I had to use Firefox.
6. I can connect my modem to router and router to computer using the cord and it works.
7. Earlier today my laptop wasn't working but my desktop was. Now neither are working wirelessly.
8. Good luck, hope you do better than I did.

Here is what it looked like when I was connected on the wireless.

Yeah, I'm gonna say it again because this is definitely one of those things that it can have an effect on, but make sure your windows firewall is off. Every time automatic updates installs something it turns on your windows firewall, and every time that happens, my mother's computer can't connect to the wireless anymore.

I'm not saying that it's definitely the issue, but check to make sure Windows Firewall is turned off. Chances are if you tried a restart already of your computer, the modem, and the router, and you made zero changes from the last time you used it to now, it's something automatic updates did to fuck with settings.

I turned firewall off and restored computer before update. Still nothing.

It's not a Linksys... what kind of Router is it?

Drisco

It's a Linksys WRT 54G. It's sitting right in front of me :P

Your DNS is fucked.

Call your cable company, ask them for the IP addresses of the DNS server you should be using, and put it in manually in your network settings.

edit after reading first post closer: your router is blocking the DNS server for some reason. Connect to and go through the settings on the router and see if there's something in there that might be doing that.

Well I've reset my whole router back to original manufacturing settings and I've done that with the modem too. So it's not my computers fault? It's the internet providers fault?

Not your ISP, because it sounds like you connect just fine if you plug your computer directly to the modem.

Try this. Hook your computer directly to your modem. Do an ipconfig /all. Write down the IPs you have listed as your DNS servers, both primary and secondary.

Hook up to the router and connect to it. Look for a setting in there that lets you manually put in your DNS servers. I'm not familiar with the WRT54G, so I'm not sure where that would be (or if it even has a place for it). If there's no place in your router for it, try entering the DNS IPs into the network settings for whichever computer you're connecting wirelessly with.

Also turn off any router firewall it may have going.

Basically, from your paste, here's what you should be concerned about:

Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : (this shouldn't be blank)
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : no-domain-set.aliant
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : no-domain-set.aliant
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1

Okay so I cracked and called them up and everything was fine on their end like I thought.

During the phone call they made me sign into my modem to see if it was them. I think that was the issue all along.

I wasn't logged into my modem. I'm going with that because once they got off the phone I put the cord back into the router and reset the router and it all worked.

Not really related...really but, heck smart people are looking here so fix my problem too.

I use stormfront. If I do not enter a command say every 15 seconds...I get lag. I freeze up horrible. I am using comcast. I used to have ATT and never had an issue. We moved. ATT doesn't off service here. It is comcast or nothing where I live. (Really? One ISP in 2008 come on hoosiers...)

So the problem I have is when I am forging. I get the tongs, settle in for the wait. If I don't look or something every 15 seconds, the stupid stormfront freezes. Then it unlocks suddenly for massive screen scroll. Why?

Why why why?

Simu made a secret deal with Comcast to help make GS even more tedious.

You might have gotten a bad modem from Comcast.

I always recommend buying your own cable modem instead of renting. You save money in the long run, and using your own modem almost always leads to better speeds and more stable connections. ISPs generally rent out the cheapest modem available.

I will try that. My wife seems not to be convinced that gemstone lag is a very high priority for family money to be spent on. Hello....trying to build a perfect lance here honey.

Methais

Just tell her you can sell that perfect lance for a lot of money and then sell the silvers to pay for the modem.

Then don't do any of it, except pay for the modem.

I had hoped electing Obama would fix it. Oh well.

What would be awesome is if all that lag caught up, somehow got around the type ahead, caused insane screen scroll and then Andraste or Emeradan pulled you up to yell at you.

Yea Indiana totally fucking sucks. I've never had such a bad ISP as Comcast.

I don't know if there has been a fix or not for Euler's issue. I encountered this same issue a while back and I'm just curious as to what would happen if you issued a continuous ping across to a website. See if you get continous replies or if you have any lose of packets.

If you haven't got it fixed, do a ping and see if any are getting dropped.
