5x HCWed forged golvern dagger (not perfect, whatever is just under that)
1x MCPed brigandine
8x spiked tower shield
3x per day 219 pinworn
FGB

Looking for an impure coraesine OHE (preferably shortsword), some nice LBP armor, magical items, other small blades, shadowy Onarian items, DBs, thrown weapons maybe, I have rather diverse tastes.

This is in no way a knock on you or your items, which are fricken' awesome by the way. I owned one of those immolation shortswords way back in the day. Consider this just a bump with a question:

How is it that 95% of all the really top awesome items in GS are all in the collections of like 5 or 10 players?

Cause they stuck around. 10+ years at something and you end up with neat shit.

Well sure, I've been around in one form or another since I was just barely 12. I'm turning 26 in May. I've had some cool shit, but never more than one or two pieces at a time. Granted, when I saw Belnia having success at it I did mostly merchanting to make the silver I had, but the most I ever amassed was 150 mil (This was back when 150 mil rivaled Tsin or Ciston's fortune of course). Of the names that come to me of the people that had the large part of the really high end items, Tsin and Ciston are near the top of that list, and those two I know how they got their stuff. Tsin capitalized on the real money buying and selling market for items, while Ciston capitalized on the silver market when it was still at about 35 bucks a million.

But 13 years after I started, when silvers flow like the Mississippi river, how is it still that the top 50 or so items are still in the hands of like three people?

Edit to add:

Well I guess I sort of answered my own question in part there. Tsin bought and sold silvers/items while investing his own money and working his way up from very little, then with the massive amount of silvers he acquired, bought up a bunch of really high end items which he would only take dollars for. With fewer people interesting in buying items for real money than are willing to do so with in game silvers, he was able to amass probably the largest collection of super high end items in the game today and continue to grow his investment by turning over items for more dollar value than he paid for in silver value, then buying up more silvers cheaper than he'd sold for, and buying up more high end items with them. (How's THAT for a run-on sentence?)

Edit again to add:

I guess the point I'm curious on is that you can't really acquire that many high end items without actively seeking them. I know more than a few people who've been around for 8, 10, 12 years and haven't amassed anywhere near as much as that. I mean, if you take m444w's items for instance, I think a very conservative estimate on their worth is well over a billion silvers. 12 years or not, a billion silvers is hard to acquire unless you're doing something specific to acquire it. Again, not a knock on you or your items m444w, I'm just curious as to how you amassed all that. Hell, I remember 8 years ago those immolation shortswords could sell for 150 mil alone.

Tsin didn't start out poor.

He bought his way in.

Well sure, he used his own startup capital in the form of dollars to start out, but he definitely grew it once he got a start by buying and selling.

I got lucky and bought a nightmare hide quiver after playing for about a month from the pawnshop that was lightened and deepened when they were in vogue. Made a quick 750k off that back when you could actually buy stuff with 750k... I've only won a single raffle for any uber item in my entire time in the Lands (a wyrwood dual crossbow, not that this particular item is uber either).

Ah okay so basically ya merchanted?

I did much the same thing. Started out with spidersilk backpacks, buyin' em up for 150k each, and then immediately turning them around for 300k. Back then they were of the few stylish looking backpacks that didn't weigh 9 pounds. They were 3 pounds and held a very large amount if I remember right.

haha, and Widgets is quite correct. I've only paid cash once for something, and it was when a friend wanted something I had and he didn't have the coins, so... I used that cash to buy something else. I play for fun, not to rip people off like... well... you know who.

As if the top 50 items are in only 3 hands, and many folks other then Ciston and Tsin moved high end items, for every item you've seen for sale theres 4 or 5 equally amazing thing that you don't know about because not everyone is craves attention and the headaches wealth creates in Gemstone, or most any other game.

Good point Ardwen. I know you for instance have a lot of cool stuff that really hasn't changed hands much.

Many items enter a black hole when they become the property of certain individuals. I tend to fall into that category as I only try to acquire items that improve my rogue, and I only do it with silvers gotten from hunting. Befriending a person that loves to merchant doesn't hurt.

Usually when I get rid of items, they are from me finding them in a box or winning a raffle/merchant spin, or Lucos has outgrown them.

Of course, once you hit that certain point, you have to trade good items to get good items..

By the way, anyone interested in a stygian shade-gecko? Trade ya it for something a high-level rogue would want...

I picked up a full plate armor concealer at EG and had it altrered. I also borrowed a feature concealer to test it and it didn't cover my neck tattoo, face tattoo, custom hair nor custom eyes. So a feature concealer is pretty much worthless to me, unless it like the helm Kaustic wears.

And I only wear 6 enhancives...about to pick up a 7th one.

Guild Badge - +10 OHE, +10 CM and +8 STR Bonus
Spiked Chausses - +7 Stamina and +5 Stamina Regen
CoL Bracer (2) - +4 AUR, +2 LOG and +2 WIS
Earcuff - +4 AUR stat
Boots = +5 AGI, +5 DEX, +10 Health and +10 Stamina

And I know there are those out there that have that beat hands down when it comes to enhancives. I just refuse to wear ugly enhancives or ones that crumble. All of mine are perm.

I thought I sent you a PM about those feature concealers not hiding tattoos. They only cover the lower half of the face and the "special" slot of feature alters along with your age. Everything else is always visible. Plus, the dumb thing, they cover Forehead Gems as well, even though you still get the idle messages... Stupid things..

Also.. Enhancives are easily altered. Atleast now-a-days, anyway. Just as O.

11-11-2008, 03:19 PM
are you talking about the new EG masks? And I've altered a TWC bracer and some other stuff... but I stopped bothering. I just take them off after I'm done hunting anyway for the most part

Rocktar

Yeah, I would love to own a few of those items, but doubt that I can or would afford them based on the market and what use I could get out of them. Nice stuff by the way.

other armors of similar utility but perhaps in a different (lower but not fulls or less, I already have plenty of those) AsG classes. The brig is one of the harder items to get me to part with on the list, to be sure.

remind me on the stats of the ring armors?

m444w
03-25-2009, 01:28 AM
3x SCPed.

You are wearing some hazy black mist armor, a crystal amulet, a tarnished ringmail satchel slung over your shoulder, some engraved black ora bracers, a smoky obsidian ring, a thigh-strapped blade harness crafted of deep viridian leather, some austere reptilian leather pants tinged a dark green, and a pair of rolled leather boots.

As you twist the top of your obsidian ring, it flowers open and begins to suck air into the swirling black center that is revealed with a shrill whistling noise. As it continues, the tendrils of mist surrounding you begin to come apart in small whisps and are sucked into the interior of the ring. Once all the tendrils surrounding your form are drawn into the ring's interior, it closes with an audible **SNAP**.
Roundtime: 10 sec.
>

>

>turn ring
As you twist the top of your ring, it begins to flower outward. Tendrils of black mist begin to flow out towards and around you. You begin to feel more burdened as the mist envelops you. Finally the tendrils quit emanating from the ring and settle down around you. Once quiescent, the tendrils merge together creating a hazy black mist in the image of some full leather around you.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

Any idea if they can be further enchanted/padded by any means?
PP's, merchants? Also, what kind of price range?

m444w
03-25-2009, 11:33 AM
Khal told me no.
But I have heard Speaker's ring-brig was made 10x (I don't know Speaker personally I just collect random tidbits of information on items for scenarios like this, maybe someone that does know him can pipe up for or against that)... so I dunno, maybe it's because the GM that knows how to do it is no longer around or something. Either way I wouldn't bet on it on the current state of the game anyway, unless they get more lax at CCF(considering someone sent me a post saying they were going to enchant DB items).

Looking for around 25 mill, depends on the type of offer I get really, as to whether it is coins/useful trades/cash... Obviously the latter two are going to get preference in this market, and coins the price will be higher for.

Belnia
03-25-2009, 04:10 PM
As I understand it, the ring armors literally CAN'T be changed from their presets, because the ring creates that same base set of armor each time.

I recall the same as Belnia. I believe the code itself says they are 3x, so to change Speaker's set, it would have had to change them all, or a new script written, saved, and applied to the item he had. Lots of effort to do that.
