Hey, having a little trouble doing tackle in the guild. I get a minus 20 to minus 40 penalty for tackle, and i forsee it really sucking. Worth just using points to get cman tackle?

No, there's better takedown cmans than tackle. Tackle is good because you can spend your cman points on other things and still learn it. Plus you'll always have that size penalty.

Are you low level, or is this just "it sucks to be a halfling"? Either way, look at picking up either tricks (for Feint) or Berserk.

you can get some ranks in the cman tackle to help you out with your guild reps until you get a fair number of ranks. then you can unlearn those tackle cman points and put them in something else.

also, berserk and tricks are good to pick up, but a lot of warriors seem to try and finish the skills that need partners asap(tackle, warcries)

ooh, good idea, thanks Silvanostar! I actually already have 40 ranks in berserk and tricks, 25 in warcry so i figure thats good enough for now. I really want to work on tackle to offset the penalty.

moonstone cubes help. Also though it seems obvious... make sure the runt is not encumbered. I think removing your armor helps too. When all else fails, remember to aim low on the biggies.

You can pump some points into CMAN tackle to help with learning guild tackling, but that doesn't change the fact that you're always going to suck at tackling as a halfling, and that tackle isn't the best takedown CMAN out there anyway. Unless you absolutely have to have it for some RP reason, I'd save it for later. Get disarm instead if you're bored of tricks and berserk.

edit: I'm not trying to be a dick, just saying that I barely tackle as-is with an Elf warrior (minor size penalty), and I'm a master. I tackle at 7RT, and ambush at 6; the only thing tackle has going for it is that it gives the target RT as well. Even then, I'm better using feint and an aimed attack. I just think you'll grind tackle for a good amount of time and then be disappointed whenever you use it against a like-level creature.

Mastering tackle sucked when I did it, and it was never really viable in the field like level - though I dual-wielded so hamstring was a perfect replacement takedown maneuver for me. They didn't have gld stance when I did it, but check and see whether your partner can gld stance down a bit, have patience with the masters for the first 20 ranks or so...

Or, if you're not hung up on being a grandmaster some day, just forget tackle and work on skills that will actually be helpful to you in the field (berserk and tricks, mainly, IMO).

They didn't have gld stance when I did it,I thought GLD STANCE came out waaaaaaay before the CMAN list ever did. Like back in GS3 waaaaay before. (I mastered tackle without GLD STANCE either; hooray for heavy training full plate.)

edit: Surviving tackle:

1) Script everything that's not a partner rep (dummies, masters, etc)
2) On critter reps, go up to 10 levels under you, humanoid (more than 2 legs = huge tackle defense boost), stun them first or something. If you're really having trouble, just carry around a mithril tigerclaw or something and let the creature pick it up. They'll bounce off of you while you get your reps done.
3) Learn to love GLD stance.

Yeah, the heavy training plate was a big part of my mastering it too, and I was done with tackle before the CMAN list came out. Furrow started a long, long time ago - when I first started leveling, there were pretty much only 3 other halfling warriors that I was aware of (Hunter, Murgin and Stillson). Now it seems like everyone has one, hehe.

Good advice on all 3 points, though of course pay attention while the script is running, etc.
