Over the past 12 years I've added ridiculous amounts of sounds from my sound collection to GS for various things that happen in game.

After several years of procrastination, I decided to zip up all my sound files and upload them, along with the Methais.his file, which is the file that holds the configuration data for the "strings" tab on the Wizard FE, which is where you put in your text strings and assign a sound to that event. Basically this is the file that the sound setup is stored in.

Quick screenshot:

(I'm left handed that's why you might notice I have my left and right hand boxes swapped on the Wizard.)

If you're wondering why it's not in the SOUNDS tab, it's because that tab didn't exist when I first started adding sounds, as well as the fact that you can't highlight any of the text strings in the SOUNDS tab (and I like to highlight, as you'll see), plus I'd rather just keep all the configurations in one file to keep things simple.

This is for Wizard FE, but I'm 99% sure it can all be imported to StormFront too. I've done it before I just don't remember how because I haven't used SF in forever.

The zip file contains all my .wav files, plus the Methais.his file. Simply rename Methais.his to whatever your character's name is, and you'll be good to go. You'll probably want to back up your old one in case you want to go back to it, as the highlights will probably throw some people off.

I have a bunch of character name highlights saved in the STRINGS tab as well, because back in the day, the NAMES tab filled up fast and I ran out of room. They've made it bigger since then, but I was too lazy to go move the character names from the STRINGS tab back to the NAMES tab, so if you like the setup but there's some character highlights you don't like, I'm afraid you'll just have to go down the list and delete them manually.

The file is roughly 42 MB. A lot of the sound strings will only trigger from a wizard's perspective, due to the wording of some stuff (i.e. if you're a wizard and casting mana leech, it'll trigger a sound but if you see another wizard casting it, it won't trigger due to the difference in wording from first and third person perspectives).

Not all the sounds in the folder are used in GS, but most of them are win anyway.

If you don't know how to link your sound folder to the Wizard, click CONFIGURATION -> OPTIONS -> then click the PATHS tab. Click LOCATE on the SOUNDS PATH line, and browse to the folder where you unzipped the sound files to, and that's it. Like this:

Hit me up if you have trouble or questions with anything. Enjoy.

Cool idea. If I come back I'll definitely pick your soundset up.

With that said, your text is giNORMOUS. I thought my vision was bad but your lenses must be so thick they hit the monitor while you're sitting in your desk chair.

Still sticking to the FE, good job. I've tried stormfront once, and although I hear it makes things easier, I haven't done it.

I still haven't touched psinet yet either.

It has nothing to do with my eyes, and everything to do with my setup :D

There has to be a perfectly formed ass-mark on that couch.

Lots of pwnage takes place from that couch. I try to flip the cushion regularly though, to keep ass marks to a minimum.

As long as you have the right sort of equipment in your box at least, or your framerates are going to suffer. I just can't tolerate computer lag in gemstone.

Alright, I'm back now so I'm gonna download this and try to adopt it to Stormfront. If I'm successful I'll post how to do it in a few minutes.

Hmm, okay at first glance it doesn't appear that there's a way to simply import all the settings from the .his file into Stormfront. You have to go through and associate each sound with a string manually. Anybody have any info that contradicts this?

Update: Fiddling with Thundermage right now to see if I can get it to output an xml file from your .his.

I dunno if this will overwrite all current highlights or not yet if it even works, but for me personally it won't matter since I just came back and haven't set up highlights yet.

Okay. Successfully imported the sound package into Stormfront.

Here's how you do it:

1. Install the wizard.
2. Change "Methais.his" to "Default.his"
3. Download Thundermage (http://www.play.net/software/thundermage.zip)
4. Place Thundermage in the Wizard folder
5. Run Thundermage, and export the xml file someplace you're not gonna forget where it is.
6. Put the downloaded Sounds folder from Methais' zip file into your Stormfront folder.
7. Run Stormfront
8. Top right, go to options, Settings, Import. Click browse and select your XML file. Set the "Don't import" settings on the highlight stuff to "Import new"
9. Click Okay
10. Package installed.

Edited to add:

But wait, there's more! I'm so incredibly dumb I didn't realize that you guys didn't have to go through that whole process.

Here is the new, improved process for importing these sounds into Stormfront.

1. Open Stormfront
2. Download this. (http://www.freewebs.com/thepraetorianguard/Sounds.xml)
3. Top right, go to options, Settings, Import. Click browse and select your XML file. Set the "Don't import" settings on the highlight stuff to "Import new"
4. Click Okay
5. Package Installed.
6. Praise Neff. (You know, since you have free time now because there are fewer steps)
7. Praise Methais (to a lesser degree)

*Note: Still make sure your downloaded Sounds folder from Methais is in your Stormfront folder, obviously.

P.S. - Your sound for skinning something reminds me of something so absolutely vulgar and disgusting that one of my ex girlfriends used to do that I can't even post it here.

How do you do your number highlighting?

Methais
11-08-2008, 01:35 AM
The number highlighting was from way way back when you had to roll your numbers and I didn't have an autoroller yet. Then I just kinda got used to it.

Mwuahaha. Went to EN for the first time in forever, and forgot about this bit:

The dwarf announces, "Boarding now for Methais."
You hastily enter the mining cart.
[Kharag 'doth Dzulthu, Tunnels]
The smooth walls of the large mining cart, so high it's nearly impossible to see over the tops, are grimy from years of use. Spots of rust mark the metal, the rivets surrounded by clouds of deep red which drip down the panels. A metal bench is mounted around the cart's sidewalls to serve as rudimentary seating.
Obvious exits: none

Bolded line triggers this (forums wouldn't let me attach it so I put it on filefront):
