I just bought a Vaalorn awl-pike with the hope to get a better AS than with my ora lance, but that just doesn't seem to be the case :

You thrust with a cedar-hafted ora lance at a fanged goblin!
AS: +71 vs DS: -1 with AvD: +39 + d100 roll: +35 = +146
... and hit for 32 points of damage!
Shot pierces a wrist!
The fanged goblin is stunned!

** Your ora lance sprays forth a shower of pure water! **

Roundtime: 6 sec.
R>stow lance
You put a cedar-hafted ora lance in your ebon silk greatcloak.
>get awl
You remove an invar-tipped vaalorn awl-pike from in your ebon silk greatcloak.
>kil
You thrust with an invar-tipped vaalorn awl-pike at a fanged goblin!
AS: +70 vs DS: -4 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +17 = +126
... and hit for 20 points of damage!
Minor puncture to the chest.
The fanged goblin falls to the ground, kicks several times and dies.
Roundtime: 6 sec.

Neither me nor another bard could figure out the enchantment of the weapon, so I'm assuming it to be whatever the natural enchantment is. If this is the case, then the Vaalorn awl-pike would have 8 more AS than the Ora lance, right?

Here's a store-bought unenchanted halberd :

You swing a halberd at a fanged goblin!
AS: +61 vs DS: -1 with AvD: +31 + d100 roll: +51 = +144
... and hit for 28 points of damage!
Blade slashes across the fanged goblin's face!
Nice nose job.
The fanged goblin is stunned!
Roundtime: 5 sec.

Anyone have any ideas?

How is your encumberence? Any enviromental factors (some rooms have more AS, etc). Does it actually inspect as Vaalorn? Vaalorn is naturally +18, Ora natural +10, so yeah, you'd expect an additional 8.

isn't ora naturally +10?

Yes ora naturally +10, and it's definitely made from Vaalorn.
The test was made in the same room, on the same creature, and my encumbrance was the same on both swings.

yes, sorry, was rereading anferis' post as I posted... head got twisted up into my ass.

What stance are you in? Did you try this in offensive with no spells?

Cedar-hafted, like invar-tipped, is RNG for critter/box-spawned, right? And/or you bought it in the pawnshop? I've never sung to anything with a lower enchant than the metal's natural ET, but I've found things (ora, i.e.) with odd (+11, +17 for ora stuff, so far) bonuses.

Observation: you're getting exactly half of the vaalorn bonus.
Diagnosis: no idea.

Are you unlearning/learning CM or pole?

Not migrating any skills or CMans, I bought it from a player shop. I can't really think of any reason why this is happening, but Bob is right about the only receiving half the bonus

I was testing in defensive for all of the swings with no AS buff spells up

Test in offensive. ... and maybe find a vanilla awl-pike somewhere to try out.

In offensive, it's the same story, except that the ora lance gets +2 over the vaalorn awl-pike. This may be because I had to move a room over. But that wouldn't make the AS on the awl-pike go down 10-ish points, right?

Edit :
This time I used the two in the same room, still a +2 over the Vaalorn.

You thrust with an invar-tipped vaalorn awl-pike at a water moccasin!
AS: +141 vs DS: +37 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +88 = +212
... and hit for 87 points of damage!
The water moccasin is sliced neatly in two.
Roundtime: 7 sec.

Bah. Weird. I couldn't detect anything by loresinging. Thanks Stanley.

I've found two "dull" weapons from critters that were -2 to the AS. One was "a dull vultite falchion" that is +18 and adds 7 ranks to ambush.

I wonder if there are specific formulae for certain base nouns since the last RNG update. But. Headache. That would be ridiculous to begin even trying to decipher.
