These guys make it swarm like hell in OTF. Make it tough to hunt alone. That's bad enough, but then this happens today.

[Old Ta'Faendryl, West]
The sound of running water can be heard to the north. A narrow road also leads to the east, past the time-blasted remains of roofless stone buildings. You also see an Ithzir seer, an Ithzir adept that appears stunned, an Ithzir initiate that appears dead, an Ithzir adept that appears dead, an Ithzir herald that appears stunned, the Sabreon disk, the Misstrike disk, the Amioweil disk, the Sabreo disk, the Mistros disk, the red Kranar disk, a greater construct that is lying down, a greater construct that is lying down, a curved silvery blade, a gleaming steel broadsword, a twisted crystal-tipped staff and a spiral-hafted handaxe.
Also here: Misstrike, Amioweil, Grand Lord Sabreo, Lord Kranar, Mistros, Sabreon
Obvious paths: north, east, southeast
Xiandrena followed.
>
Mistros traces a simple rune while intoning a short, mystical phrase...
>n
>
Mistros gestures.
A wave of russet ethereal ripples moves outward from Mistros.
An Ithzir seer is buffeted by the russet ethereal waves and is knocked to the ground.
... 5 points of damage!
Strike glances off the chest.
An Ithzir adept is buffeted by the russet ethereal waves and is knocked to the ground.
... 70 points of damage!
Blow to back removes the spinal column!
The Ithzir adept vainly struggles to rise, then goes still.
The Ithzir adept no longer bristles with energy.
The glowing specks of energy surrounding an Ithzir adept suddenly shoot off in all directions, then quickly fade away.
The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves an Ithzir adept.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around an Ithzir adept.
An Ithzir adept becomes solid again.
The bright luminescence fades from around an Ithzir adept.
The shimmering multicolored sphere fades from around an Ithzir adept.
The silvery luminescence fades from around an Ithzir adept.
An Ithzir herald is buffeted by the russet ethereal waves.
... 55 points of damage!
Hard strike removes the right eye and a goodly bit of skull!
The Ithzir herald vainly struggles to rise, then goes still.
The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves an Ithzir herald.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around an Ithzir herald.
The silvery luminescence fades from around an Ithzir herald.
A greater construct is buffeted by the russet ethereal waves.
A greater construct is buffeted by the russet ethereal waves.
Xiandrena is buffeted by the russet ethereal waves, and is knocked to the ground.
You are buffeted by the russet ethereal waves, and knocked to the ground.
You are pinned in place, unable to move.
Roundtime: 19 sec.
... 60 points of damage!
Blow to back crushes your spinal column.
Talk about no backbone!

I doubt that was all one person, but using an AoE spell in an area where there is other hunters is slap dickish as all hell. I guess since others use it too and he's been hit with it, that makes it all ok though.

He doesn't make it swarm any more than another 4-5 people would even if they weren't grouped.

And mass spells are just something you have to deal with every now and then. If it had happened a few more times the same day.. that would suck.

Main thing is no one uses them on the main road and stuff.

Maybe I was a bit pissed? Tends to happen when you're killed in the middle of a hunt by a massive attack spell. I wasn't aware open attack spells became acceptable in largely populated hunting areas. Maybe I should start using meteor swarm and open implosion.

Yea, OP you come across looking like the bitch here. He obviously made a mistake, apologized, and was trying to help you get back on your feet after it.

He is a decent guy... and like others have said: AOE spells happen in OTF, just tough luck sometimes.

Eoghain
10-06-2008, 06:09 PM
I use mass spells in OTF whenever I want to. It's not my problem if people have bad luck. If I kill you, I'll drag you out and make sure you're raised, healed, and refilled with many, and frequently replace a chrism gem (if I can). Mass spells were made available for use and I for one am not going to refrain from using them because OMGSOMEONEMIGHTWALKINRIGHTTHEN. It happens.

I guess with 135 it'll happen more now too :D Sabreon is usually really good with shit like that. These things happen. use 435 yourself when you want to. it's not your fault if fate decrees that someone needs to die as a result :D That's part of the fun.

AestheticDeath
10-06-2008, 06:11 PM
Pretty sure meteor swarm would get you hunted by players. Maybe even GMs.

I have used and seen people use 435 and open 720, as well as open 1030, and I am sure a few others.

Sometimes you just know where others hunt, or who's around etc. After being there a while you can get a feel for when its safe enough to cast AOE stuff. Course everyone makes mistakes. I know I have hit Sabreons group with AoE stuff before, and they didn't think anything of it.

Pretty sure Sabreo, Kranar, Mistros, and Sabreon are all the same. Not sure about the others myself.

You are correct.

He's an OK guy until his shorts get bunched, then you have to deal with the whole group rather than just one character. And he's pretty big on vendettas, so if you ever cross swords, prepare to deal with it for a while.

As far as area effect spells in OTF, thats part of hunting there. I've been killed by the same bard on back to back hunts with sonic disruption. Yes, dying in OTF sucks. Hopefully the person using the area effect spells uses them responsibly and acts responsibly after they make you a victim. (In fact Ganalon is currently dead somewhere up by the north lake shore or was when I last logged out).

My soapbox is with area effect spells period. Realistically I understand that magic is dangerous and not everything can be player friendly. Its unrealistic to squash CvC that results from inappropriate use of area effect spells, or in character conflicts with users and victims of area effect spells. If reality is the basis for area effect spells, then its a one sided GM reality. Which sucks.

AestheticDeath

I would have said the same thing Gnimble, but it could easily be that hunting that many guys, 435 is the way Mistros gets his part of the XP. Knock everything down with damage, and let the others swing.

Welcome to end game. AoE spells are often useful and sometimes a life saver. You can tell from the log that you walked in right as he cast. What the fuck was he supposed to do? You got killed on a bad roll and it looks to me like he did everything he could to make it up to you. I know for a fact he would have healed you and then gave you a chrism raise and full spellup if you would have let him

Yes, Sabreon has four or five accounts and slaughters everything in OTF. To be honest, his roleplay isn't always great. However, he will gladly let you join his group and get in on the action and is more than willing to rescue your body (and items) when you die. He is around a lot and has no issue with spelling up anyone with the spells they need since he has access to almost everything.

To reiterate what most of the other posters have said so far, you are the one who looks like a jackass in this log.

10-06-2008, 10:10 PM
Yea, AOE spells suck in the main square in OTF. Lucos has been hit by quite a few of them. Things like 410 don't bother him, unless it is the same asshat that does it repeatably. If he gets hit by 435, the caster gets a warning, and he moves on. If he gets hit by an open implosion/meteor swarm, then the caster immediately becomes his hunting target.

And yea, the place swarms like a pack of whores around a limo when his crew is in there. If it bothers you, move to the west woods. I am pretty sure he keeps his crew in the main square.

Maybe I should start using meteor swarm and open implosion.

That's a horrible comparison since those spells tend to hang around longer. 435 takes a second to cast and the chances of getting caught from 435 is pretty slim but it happens and the guy was nice about it. If your just going to blindly run into a room while hunting then this is what you get. Am I the only person who prefers to PEER when im hunting? I would think you would want to know what your getting into so you can avoid dangerous rooms or scenarios like this.

The only time I peer in OTF is after I've moved through a crowded room to see if it has dispersed at all (assuming I want to go back for some reason). Usually I loop blindly and rapidly through a couple of familiar paths while hunting.

I've only been caught in a couple of AoE spells in OTF and survived each time (I think I've been hit by Sabreon's group once, whoever it was healed me/etc afterwards). I've also been lucky enough where I've never caught anyone in my 635 yet, although I don't use it that often anymore.

how would peering have stopped him from getting 435'd? he would have just seen an MA crew and tried to skip by them but would have still been 435'd...but seriously you peer every place you hunt in? only 2 situations i peer with, A. search heirlooms on the ground i peer before i crawl for a 3 second RT. and B. sand devils on teras.

Sabreon et al is a thundering fuck. He engages in just about everything that's wrong with the game: Totally bereft of RP, MA's loudly and proudly, buys and sells characters/items for RL cash. He's like a Tsin wanna be only he's not as bright so that's all he'll ever be.

That said.

Crap happens. And I will admit that for all his other faults which are plentiful, he doesn't leave a carcass - whether he created it or not.

So yea. Sucks to die, but really, it could have just as easily been me that hit you with 435. Would that have mattered?

Why is this bad? Most of the players here have done the same.

It royally screws the in-game currency. There's no way to stop it, it's been going on for years, and will continue to go on. I could probably cash out my account and have two grand in my pocket - just on characters.

I simply don't see the need to get over on every situation that I'm in. I didn't start playing this game as a money making venture, and I don't feel the need to turn it into one, at the expense of everyone else who's playing's experience.

Selling of characters, it should be self-evident why that's not a positive situation. If it's not self-evident, then ... whatever. Next time one of your oldest friends sells out to some shit head who then sells the character again, just remember this thread.

I'm not telling anyone what to do, and I don't expect to be agreed with on this. But these activities do lessen the quality of the game experience for everyone.

RE: Tsin v. Sabreon wellington status. I've had fewer problems and issues and confrontations with Tsin over the years than I have Sabreon - like 2 with Tsin vs. a dozen or more with Sab. The latest was him accusing me, in totally OOC terms outloud in the middle of OTF, of picking up a blade he lost to Ithzir pillaging and keeping it. I only had the vaguest of notions what he was even talking about. He later apologized for being an ass, after the blade turned up or something. So yea, milage may vary there for sure.

The selling of characters doesnt bother me either. Its their subsequent abuse by people unwilling to play them correctly or appropriately that can be very disappointing and even frustrating.

What I'm not a fan of is MA'ing. Back when I've had multiple accounts, I've had the opportunity to play multiples and it felt it took away the joy of interaction with the game. Being dependant on others for facets of the game that are beyond the scope of my character or his profession makes the interaction necessary to function fun.

I agree. To me, knowing that someone MA's (especially when they don't do it well) takes away from the believability/roleplay aspect to the game. I've met plenty of people who play more than one character and play them well. I've also met plenty of people, who, like this group, only MA to have an upper hand in hunting. That's their gig, and it's fine - but I don't -have- to like it. And yeah, maybe I acted like an ass, but I don't see how anyone would expect me to be fine and dandy over dying by someone elses mistake. He was apologetic. That's fine. My character isn't a person who'd forgive someone for a stupid mistake so easily.

Yea, I have no issue MAers that do so in a considerate and discreet manner. Table slaves, that sort of thing. Gang banging six characters on hunting scripts through OTF isn't really considerate or discreet. That said, I love hunting OTF when he's out there now, because of the swarms. I would not have said that when I first started hunting there, though.

I think it's a shame that people think MA'ing is necessary, but whaddayagonnado.

I think it's funny that you say there is nothing wrong with MA'ers yet you criticize it whenever someone who does so is mentioned.

Hate the player, not the game. MA'ing is allowed and people take advantage of it. Although I don't see what difference it makes if someone takes their alts or five other players, a group is a group. Would you really feel better if he asked five friends to help him play his characters? Probably not.

I don't care about people who MA. A jerk who happens to MA is still a jerk by his own means.

No, I criticize people who MA in a blatant, inconsiderate, OOC way. I accept that many, if not most people, MA now. I don't like it, but I accept it. I don't personally MA, and never will.

The difference between an MA'ing script hunter and five people hunting together is fairly simple: He has scripts he hunts with - case in point, his statement that the cast of 435 got "stuck".

Five people hunting together, is five separate people reacting to things around them. In the OP's situation, had it been five people and not one person on scripts, maybe this thread would have never happened. Maybe the outcome would be the same, impossible to know.

In both cases, you're right, swarms result and neither is worse than the other. Five people hunting together, however, is true to the spirit of the game - multiplayer. One person hunting five characters is not.

An Ithzir adept is buffeted by the russet ethereal waves and is knocked to the ground.

The shimmering multicolored sphere fades from around an Ithzir adept.

Sabreons crew saying it's ok to 435 is nuts. I remember 410ing an area and his bitch Amioweil got hit.

Fuck them.

That's my sentiment on the issue. I'm not inclined, nor ever will be inclined, to use spells which endanger other people. Not that Telare would feel guilty if he killed someone, but as far as I'm concerned it (in my own case) it would needlessly endanger other people and might possibly be a cause for negative interaction in the game that I don't need. Bolt spells and regular ewave work well enough for me.

Oh, and lol at her attacking you for apparently using ewave. As far as I know she's not a part of that MA group, but I've never found her to be the brightest anyway.

I haven't seen it (435) in widespread use. It's a shame other people have to be put at risk for those few that use it. But that's how it goes.

So no one should ever use 435? Then what's it for? Seems to me that responsible use is ok, being a dumbass isn't, and having a spell that no one should ever use is silly.

Yeah. Having a useless spell doesn't happen in GS. Sarcasm aside, the practicality of 435 isn't that great imo. Cost and efficiency of the spell don't match up. I suppose if you're capped and have loads and loads of mana (which mistros probably does) and loads and loads of lore (see the aforementioned), then yeah it might be a decent spell

For what he's using it for the mana cost isn't an issue. He only needs to use it once to tag all mobs in the room and then he gets a chunk of the xp as the rest of the crew wreck the room.

Not all spells are meant to be mana efficient. In end game have the most powerful spell regardless of cost is quite useful. Meteor Swarm aside. That spell is stupid.

I liked using major ewave though so I could be biased. I never had a problem with mana, since it wasn't my main hunting tool, so for me major ewave was another great tool at my disposal.

Cone followed by EWave would be almost as effective in getting a hit on everything and then letting his crew cleanup, without the chance of critting a bystander.
