Spore is out today. You can download it from Direct or just run to GameStop and pick it up. The GF has been playing it all day like a fiend.

Picked it up about two hours ago, been playing nonstop. It's great.

Not gonna buy a product that is designed defective. The DRM on Spore is RIDICULOUS.

DRM?

I got the galactic version for cheaper than the normal.

Played it 6 hours, got into space phase; gotta eat :)

Going to pick it up tomorrow. Was planning on "trialing" it for an extended amount of time, but as was mentioned, the DRM is hellish since it's published by EA.

I want the game enough to plunk down the 50.

Haha that's what DRM stands for...

WTF are you talking about then!? I been hearing issues about video card needs from Spore.

Digital rights management. Spore uses SecuRom, which has an online authentication. Which means it's crackable only if you never go online with the game. Since online is a huge feature in Spore, it would be like playing half a game.

I was actually going to buy Spore... and then... wow. The DRM fiasco.

For a game to have 1,100 reviews on Amazon and to be rated ONE STAR, my god. Epic fail.

Besides only being able to be installed 3 times (and if you change ANYTHING about your comp--memory, hard drive, etc., it counts as an additional install), apparently it installs root folders that can't be deleted, even as an administrator. So it permanently installs, essentially, a Big Brother virus onto your computer to make sure you're not pirating it.

Interestingly, pirated/cracked versions of the game don't come with a DRM. Hmmmmmmmm!

I played it for 16 hours straight yesterday.

I got an award for getting from Cell to Space in one sitting. Something like Galactic Overlord or something. I was like Suhweet.

Haha, my fiance did that yesterday. He played from like 6pm until around 2am.

My favorite stage is the cell stage. I sort of lost interest once I got on land, and then once again when I got into space. Is that sad? :(

It's a really good game. Yeah, the DRM is bullshit, but that's what you get an in industry that is focused on the rights holder rather than the consumer. If we weren't all pussies, we could force them to cut it out.

It came out on Friday in the EU, but Sunday in the US. My solution (besides pirating)? I bought it through the US store, "pre-loaded" it, then went in and changed my account info/address to some bullshit address in London and it unlocked early. =D

It was a lot of fun--there's a hilarious video for reaching the galactic core and flying inside. I really enjoyed the cell, civilization and cell stages, but the creature/tribal stages didn't really feel fleshed out, or fun at all.

It looks like stupid game to me. Mr. Potato head anyone?

If you try it, you'd probably think differently. It's a pity that many people won't bother tinkering around with the customization options, because there are a shitload.

I wish they'd had a tutorial on it, because I found out a lot of the tricks by myself, like scrolling the mousewheel to make things bigger, turning some of the knobs that come out when you click things, and holding down the mouse button on colors to get even more variations. I'll post a pic of my creature/city that I made tonight.

I installed Galactic on Windows Vista last night. It keep freezing up and running jerky. I updated my video card driver and it ran smoothe.

It's just a fun game. It's nice to have something different. It's even better to have something that is actually fun. The casual/addictive nature of the game sort of reminds me of Sim City when it first came out. "Just 5 more minutes then I'll save and go to bed" and before you know it's morning.

It's worth scooping up just to have a nice change of pace. It reminds you why you like video games in the first place.

Just some kid whining about his mom not buying it but she believes in evolution. So it turned into a pretty epic thread about religion and killing himself.
