View Full Version : At the risk of being mocked...
What the hell is a URL anyway? Computer illiterate here. I want an avatar but when I tried to use a photo before I thought I had to post it to the web first and it ended up causing all sorts of problems for other people. But I cant figure out what I should enter to use something saved to my pictures file. This is the one I want (thanks Wezas):

Uniform Resource Locator.
And you can't use a saved image as an avatar. It needs to be on a website, which is how a URL can exist.

Why?

Also, here. Use this for your avatar link.

Well said, John! There really are human beings on the other side of those monitors, people. It cannot hurt to remember that.

Editing the post was pretty lame. Just delete it, don't be wrong, look at my post, and copy me.
Also, this thread is about how Mint could get her avatar. I solved the problem, and then you decided it would be good to argue with Tayre. The only posting after this should be praise for me.
what does it matter if he knows what it was or not... the real meat of the question was about avatars.
Okay, still confused, but highly entertained. Wezas where did you find that picture?

I'm retarded and forgot the fact you saved it to the boards.

There's your avatar URL.

The difference Tayre is how they work with computers. I am a VB programmer. I know very little HTML. I know very little about LAN operations. I know nothing about C++. There are specialties and J-Tech's may not be in anything to do with the website. You may know a little about alot of things, but it's likely he knows more then you about a few things.
i don't think that works bob but i could be wrong. anyway if you have some avatar questions feel free to u2u or IM me mint.
guess it does work bob was right :)

<<i don't think that works bob but i could be wrong>>
It does. When you attach an image to the PC it has its own URL, which is all that's required to hyperlink it. My first link would have worked as well, because it's on my website, but it's not necessary when the picture is already on the boards.
[nothing changed, just testing tijay's theory of post editing]

I'm wrong. I could have kept my comment/opinion to myself. It was off topic anyway. I'll delete my posts. Others can do the same if they want.

Exactly, I know a lot about computers. I've worked with all MS OSes, Linux, I've programmed in VB, C++, Java, Html, and I know how to put computers together and set up home networks. I knew what a URL was, but... I didn't know what it stood for still I read this thread.

Apparently neither did J-Tech, so he resorted to cheating off a 13-year-old.
And here I thought I would be the one mocked. Got my answer though so let's all ignore this thread....:(
You forget...I know where Fort Lewis is....
You always have to have the last word? I want the last word dammit. And yes, fear me.

Tayre should totally be a mod.
^ Mock of Tayre, So Is Almost On-Topic, Although Technically I DidN't Get To See Whatever It Was He Did ^

I think Bobmuhthol should not not be a moderator.
Also, Tayre is dumb and shouldn't moderate anything ever. To stay on topic: J-Tech is still lame for cheating off a 13-year-old.
Way to let this thread die, kudos
I owe you for the help Bobmuhthol so I would never dream of telling you to stfu. It would never even cross my mind to tell you to stfu. After all, you helped me so stfu would be inappropriate and ungrateful. I mean, really, STFU and let this thread die might even be considered insensitive and I am NOT insensitive...

I needed a place for my avatar since supposedly no one can see it.
This is that place.
I have created a monster. I am abjectly sorry to any offended parties.
