Does oatmeal count?

Oatmeal + real butter + real maple syrup + whole milk = ridiculous. And really not that bad for you if you don't use 5 pats of butter and a cup of syrup.

i just rocked the normal ones. i always thought the honey ones were too sweet. it was just sort of what i was used to growing up. to be honest though, i don't eat that much cereal anymore.

I'm a cereal nut and can easily have cereal every morning. I have in the past, and my husband has gone nutso because of how much cereal we end up buying. Hell I love munching on it as a snack!

In no particular order:
Cheerios (any of the varieties)
Lucky Charms (I love those stupid little stale marshmellows)
Kix
Chex
Special K Red Berries
Honeycomb
Raisin Nut Crunch

The question is... who invented cereal? Oatmeal was probably a precursor to cereal.

But I digress... there is nothing as fulfilling as a hot bowl of oatmeal with milk, brown sugar, and a raisin or two.

One time, in college, when I was living in the dorms, me and some friends went to the cafeteria for dinner. I was stoned out of my mind, so that was probably a pretty bad idea, but whatever.

Anywho, I ended up eating around 10 or 15 bowls of cereal, I don't remember. But as I was eating them, I came up with this Kingdom of Cereal thing. It went something like this.

Corn Flakes and Cheerios are the king and queen of all cereals. Pretty much all cereals are derived from them. Then you've got the princes and princesses, which would be cereals like Frosted Flakes and Honey Nut Cheerios. Then the Dukes and Duchesses and their kids, which would be cereals like Frosted Mini Wheats, Rice Krispies, Life, and Kix.

And from those main families, you get all the bastard offshoots. Like, Cocoa/Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Krispies are an offshoot of Rice Crispies. Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Golden Grahams are an offshoot of Life. Honey Bunches of Oats and Special K and Raisin Brans are an offshoot of Corn Flakes. Cocoa Puffs and Cap'n Crunch and Corn Pops are an offshoot of Kix. And so on.

I swear, it made perfect sense at the time.

Also, as much as I love Honeynut Cheerios... that shit makes your pee reek worse than asparagus.

For some strange reason, my mom refused to let me have any cereals with sugar added (either frosted stuff, or manually adding sugar) when I was a kid... something about them making me hyperactive or something. When I could start making a few choices of my own, I loved having the sugary cereals with all the cool marshmallows and stuff, but now I find myself wanting those old "plain" cereals a lot.

So here's my favorites (though not necessarily what's actually in the cabinet):
good ol' plain Cheerios (I've found that I LOVE adding honey to them)
Rice Krispies
Kix
Lucky Charms (something about the marshmallows)
store brand version of honey nut Cheerios (don't ask me why, but I prefer the store brand's texture to the name brand)

Dammitall, I'm hungry now. I think I'll get...a bowl of cereal for a pre-bed snack :P

Edited to add:
Oh yeah, and plain oatmeal with a lot of brown sugar and a little extra cold milk ROCKS. Mmmm...

I've been eating a lot of cereal on frozen yogurt lately. They tend to have a lot of cereal toppings at these yogurt places. Captain Crunch and Cocoa Pebbles are the best on it.

Cap'n Crunch shreds the fuck out of my mouth.

This is what I do. Fill bowl to rim with cereal. Add milk until cereal just starts to rise. Place a small plate or saucer on top of cereal pushing down until milk and cereal level are even. Place in fridge for at least 20 minutes.

What you get is a slightly soggy outside with a little crunch left inside each cereal bit.

Cap’n Crunch embodies the best of tastes being both sweet and somewhat savory/salty.
