Why is self TD so low? ment to cast at a defender but pressed enter before in put the DEF.

A spectral triton defender thrusts with a lackluster blue steel harpoon at you!
AS: +424 vs DS: +609 with AvD: +29 + d100 roll: +46 = -110
A clean miss.
>cast
You gesture.
CS: +519 - TD: +333 + CvA: +12 + d100: +31 - -5 == +234
Warding failed!
A dull grey beam snakes out and then arcs back toward you!
... 93 points of damage!
... 30 points of damage!
Frightful blast to the face strips flesh to the bone and removes right eye!
Spell Elemental Defense I (401) ended. [-5DS, -5ETD]

ugh!

That's really weird.

You should have a fucking ton of TD.

i did incant but the thing moved right before. Then followed it and went to cast the spell it (the incant) preped.

I' guess the reasoning behind your TD lowering is that if you were to cast at yourself you are concentrating more on the offense of the spell, rather then your defense. Plus its probably easy to hit yourself if thats what you want to do, rather then something else hitting you which you don't want.

it doesn't work that way for almost every other CS spell.

I get my full elemental TD when I use 1030 on myself.
