On runestaff exchanges...

Some of the trades that happened during the first runestaff exchange in Sol Haven were kinda flippin' nuts.

Here are some excerpts from the Official Boards...

"I traded a 7x scimitar, 7x tower shield, and 5x blessable backsword. Got back a +32 glowbark runestaff. Whatever...I expected +35-+38, but this will do. Glowbark at least has excellent breakage."

The items from that previous message were...
"7x razor sharp blackened scimitar
7x black veniom tower shield - dragon style altar that I cant remember exactly
5x rolaren backsword "


"I traded in 4 6x shields for a +30 staff. "

Items from the previous were...
"2 glisstening sea green bucklers
1 inky black bilobed shield
1 assasin crested shield"

"Well, my empath traded a 7x altered black tower shield for a +27 fireleaf runestaff.
She was offered a +28 for her item, but I really wanted fireleaf for her, so took the -1 lower enchant for the wood I wanted."

I think some of these trades were nuts. Four 6x shields for one 6x runestaff is definately just wrong in my opinion. The difference in offensive stance of a 4x and 5x runestaff is like 2 or 3DS. In higher stances it shouldn't matter since you oughta be able to ward off any attack anyway.

A friend tried to trade in a 5x shield and was offered a level 17 or 18 from the chart. I think thats what I'm going to do personally. I just want a witchwood one to toy with enchanting.

Gonna blowup runestaff values if people trade 12-15m worth of items for a 6x staff.

You would have to be completely ignorant to make those kind of trades.

As far as I've seen, mages can enchant them easily enough. It'll take another month or so before 7x runestaves start showing up from enchanters though. If people keep trading like that, I know I'll start working on higher enchant staves again.

Takes a 10x shield and another one of between 7x-8x to get a 10x runestaff

Why someone would give up a style of play that gives more DS, while having shields and equipment of high enchant, to have a medicore DS with a medicore enchantment, is beyond me. Ludicrous.

I am undecided on an exchange. I could afford more, but I only own one each 10x weapon and shield. Since 10x items will not (or rarely) be created now, I am very reluctant to part with them.

And adjust their training path to get free DS

They'll be holding the staff exchanges for quite a while yet. If your at all hesitant, I recommend that you hold off for a while. It takes a 10x and a 8x to get a 10x runestaff according to Starsnuffer.

You shouldn't be hurting for the extra 10DS or whatever. Or if you are, you can probably weasel out another spell from somewhere.

posted a handy little info script that will post the breakage stats and such under the scripting discussion, in case you're not a reader of those threads... it will give you breakage and info on most all items of wood concerning ranged, shields, rune staves, etc.

Right, I can hunt self-spelled like-level in Maaghara's Tower with a +18 staff. :D

They are scheduled merchant events, the next one is Ta'Illistim on 1/18.

Thats probably THE best way to deter people from trading for the runestaves. Make them realize just how much they're giving up for it.

Just giving up this ehhh...sword and shield for this pretty runestaff is fine.

19 MILLION?! For it is just mind boggling.

The funny thing is you'd probably have to throw in another 5x shield to get to the full 10x on the runestaff.
