I had the distinct pleasure of going to the UFC event last night, and DAMN... Lesnar didn't disappoint. He simply dominated a world class heavyweight in Heath Herring from start to finish.
The fight opened with Lesnar flying in at the two second mark for a FLYING KNEE STRIKE that Herring just managed to avoid, and quickly escalated with a stiff right hand that made Herring LITERALLY DO A BACKFLIP (well, a backwards somersault).
Lesnar seemed content to keep Herring down, and smother him, allowing Herring absolutely no room to work. The guy didn't even seem to care to finish the fight, he just maintained a dominant position through three full, scary rounds, getting full mount and back position like it was nothing, repeatedly.
Brock played to the Minnesota (his home) crowd quite a bit, and we honestly ate it up like five year olds who were just given an ice cream cone. Lesnar would taunt Herring now and then, and Herring could do nothing but squirm into the next full mount as Lesnar would mix in powerful knees and hammerfists here and there that made a couple folks visibly flinch a row in front of me.
All in all, it was nuts. This guy is a future heavyweight champion, without a doubt. As for concern of Brock's fight conditioning, they've been wiped clean. Lesnar fought three full, dominant rounds, and wasn't so much as breathing deeply as the fight ended.
Alright, so, I'm going to quit typing about amazing this guy is, because it's bordering on mancrush status. All of you fight fans will understand if/when you see him in the octogon, so enjoy it while you can. Once he reaches the top of the UFC, he'll likely abandon his fight career to go back to the fake stuff, but ahwell.
Brock Lesnar, 3-0 in MMA, 2-0 in UFC (I refuse to acknowledge the bullshit loss that Steve Mazzagatti stamped on Lesnar's record, as he did everything to fuck Lesnar out of that fight short of throwing a kick or a punch for himself)

Why do you say that, exactly? His standing skills are tremendously underrated, and his ground game is unquestionably the best of any heavyweight in the UFC. He made Mir and Herring both look like the can he beat in K-1, which is a scary thing to witness. There really isn't another heavyweight in the UFC that can challenge him right now, and he's only had THREE FIGHTS in his career.
Nogueira can't and wont beat him, when they match up in late 09 (if not sooner). Mir wont win a rematch, if he even gets one. Josh Barnett's only form of offense is staring. Cro Cop is fried. Couture is never coming back. Gonzaga is a joke. Werdum isn't even mildly talented...
Seriously, Tim Sylvia is the only one who even matches up well ON PAPER, and by the time Lesnar has a contract to fight Sylvia, he'll be a MUCH better fighter than he is now. It's frightening to think how far he can go.

Steve Mazzagatti beat him by being a pussy, no doubt, but it's a loss. Lesnar pounded on him until he got some weird ankle bar in the last like 13 seconds of the 2nd round I think. Regardless of the super pussiness of Steve, he still won.
Lesnar just should have let the puss puss stand up instead of laying on his back like a bitch the whole time.

Watching Lesnar fight is awesome. I'm going out on a limb here but if you give this guy 2 more years he is going to take out Fedor. He's a true heavyweight, fights at 280lbs. Guys like Brandon Vera and Randy Couture (two of my favorite fighters) wont be able to even think of fighting heavyweight anymore. He's changing the game. Nobody has his combiation of size, speed and strength. This shit just got real.

I don't think you're going out on a limb at all.
Lesnar is an absolute monster. I was a bit disappointed he didn't finish off Herring - that fight was basically over after that first punch. But then I wondered if his arms may be TOO big to pull off a choke. You could tell he was being mindful of the back of Herring's head, I think he may have held back a bit. He still needs to work on his BJJ defense, but once he gets to the point where he's comfortable on his back and can escape basic submissions, I don't think anyone will be able to stop him. Not even the great Fedor.
Either that, or he'll be the first competitor in the new Super-Heavyweight division.
They say he's going up against Cheick(?) Kongo next, which I think will be good for him. He needs to fight against a more technical striker to test that standup. Once he takes Kongo down, though, that fight is over too. I don't think Sylvia is worth it anymore. Assuming he beats Kongo, I'd love to see him take on W.Silva to see what he can do against another monster.
I doubt Fedor would back away from a fight with Lesnar down the road.
And I'd LOVE for EXC to put Slice against Lesnar. Just to watch Slice get brutalized.
And as for the rest of the card: Huerta v Florian was awesome. John Fitch is a war machine, but GSP is amazing.

Lesnar's only flaw is bjj, once he gets comfortable with that it's all over. All these monster strikers like , kimbo, lesnar, anderson , silva, ; besides fatigue, thier strikes are for the most part genes and reflexes the training just does a little refining but you will never get a good striker if he isn't a good striker naturally. The bjj on the other hand is all about knowledge, lesnar although he did dominate was doing nothing with the top position that he couldve utilized much more effectivley. Maybe he didnt know what to do, maybe wasnt comfortable, he had countless times were he couldve choked him out but he chose to just lay on top. Through in bjj expereince and youve got one unstoppable force, when the time comes where someone big enough to stand up in front of him comes , we will see a new evolution of the heavyweight division.

In all reality, I was under the impression that Lesnar was simply making an example of Herring. Yeah, he didn't finish him off, but did he even have to? In utterly dominating a guy who has been hovering around the top of the heavyweight division for the last several years, did he make more of a statement than if he caught Herring with another knee strike as he did that backflip seconds into the first round?
He didn't do anything with his full mounts, aside from show that he can maintain the position until he doesn't care to, and even then Herring could only squirm into an even worse back mount. Yeah, you can't throw punches from your back, but you can't throw ANYTHING from your stomach.
Lesnar's BJJ will only be tested if he faces someone who can legitimately take him down, or ground him, which I simply don't see being tested. The guy hasn't been on his back once in his MMA career, last I remember, and I doubt that will change unless someone gets lucky.
If Kongo is his next billed opponent, expect THAT to be his first in a series of first round domination, as I get the impression he enjoyed the opportunity to play to his home crowd, and make an example of a guy who is MASSIVELY popular in Japan, and has a pretty hardcore fanbase in the US was just too much for him to resist. A schlup like Kongo wont warrant that kind of display, and I doubt we'll see one like it.
Note: I'm pretty sure Lesnar could've simply ducked into a tight guillotine and won the fight when he had Herring in that facelock in the first round, he could've actually gotten it from a sitting position, as you could see he was considering a back leg sweep.
...Just saying... :p
